😃It just seems like you hate videogames with that talk. Videogames are created by pioneers and creative minds that dream of making something special. Some love the challenge and experimental technology to push the culture forward. This YT video conveys a more commercial or superficial side of games. True videogame programmers, designers, artist, composers and developers would do it for free. Basically -there are various reasons a person would choose to create videogames and money is rarely the motivation. However, today only corporations and greed along with empty fans that are slaves to algorithms and mixed narratives-- Inject their toxic opinions on the internet. This includes media, youtubers and anyone with access to the internet with any platform big or small. We understand there are different types of gamers. People play what they like. This video is a prime reactment of a clout based gamer or (CBG). The Pinnacle Gamer which is someone like myself, is not swayed by reviews, prices, platforms, and technology. I am a gamer for the experiences and new ground in these devices that can stimulate one's mind and create worlds within our own. Games are a challenge to both the player and creator. The holo deck which exists in the Sci-FI TV series Star Trek is a prediction of the final form of gaming. Let the sheep debate thier nonsense for attention clicks and views. Let the pioneers push forward with exciting new ideas. 🤰🏿

In my opinion I love gaming it’s something I’ve always enjoyed doing. When it comes to these types of topics such as the state of gaming I always just remember you can choose to view things through a negative or pessimistic view point or look at it from the perspective that the games I like to play will always be there and if new games are not matching that quality I simply just don’t buy them

I've come to that conclusion just recently, instead of feeling like I have to grind the newest game, I play at my own pace. If I wanna play a 4 year old game for hours at a time I'll do it. Sounds weird but when games drop so often I'd feel like I had to be on top of them all. Currently playing State of Decay 2 and having a blast.

Ive bought most of the Marvel games that came out during the ps2 era, since the pandemic started and even though i may only played them about 1 or 2 hrs, it blows my mind how todays games are not even have half of their features or mechanics. This goes also f.e. for Insomniacs spider man, which is a good high quality game but it misses some things. As if they wanted to play it safe, for now.

I think gaming overall hasn't changed very much. I think the issue is devs we used to have faith in are not as good anymore or they release less often. There also seems to be a large amount gamers who only want to play the big AAA titles. This leads to long gaps for them since game dev times are getting longer.

I think the problem is me growing up games at most were $50 dollars so it was affordable you were not as mad if it was not that good because you did not spend a lot to buy it and so you could enjoy it more. Compared to nowadays your spending $70 dollars minimum and could go up more so now your not just going out buying games to buy games you have to be careful, look at reviews which is going to change ur views on a game being good or trash thus making you miss out on opportunities on great games. We live in a culture of everything has to be right now so for me I wait about a year after a drop so it’s more affordable for me to play it just requires a lot more patience hence sometimes it feels dry because I’m not living in the moment

Ay man…this is an extremely well made and insightful video, and I have to agree with most of the things you’ve said. Gaming in its current state pales in comparison to the feeling I used to get from previous generations with game releases, but it could also have somethin’ to do with me gettin’ older, findin’ success in my career, and startin’ up a family of my own. I don’t have the time I used to have to seemingly endlessly play games, but the time I do spend with games doesn’t quite hit my soul the way it used to.

I still enjoy gaming especially playing single player games. What helps is not only playing AAA games and staying away from most multiplayer games. Because mp games are just for your money instead of producing a product to be played for years. I suggest also playing different genres and experiment. So many hidden gems that are overlooked. I think gamers are also spoiled there are so many games out and people don’t bother playing what’s out now and instead just keeps looking for the next thing
@TheOnlyTaps
@TheOnlyTaps Жыл бұрын
Yeah 💯, there's a lotta good titles that get slept on coz of that constant MP grind people have. And it makes sense coz MP is always gonna be fun playin with the homies but those games rely more on that community and aspect of playing with the homies than actually being good so they end up just being monetized to kingdom come. I love that single player games kinda allow ya to just get caught into a little world and escape in all these different stories the way you'd escape into like a movie/TV show. People just gotta stop giving their money to the mediocre releases and constant MP cash cows but unfortunately as we've seen if companies see they can constantly milk something with loot boxes and microtransactions they constantly will coz it would be bad business not to, if the customer base is willing.
@TheOnlyTaps
@TheOnlyTaps Жыл бұрын
And the genre thing is so key. There's loads of folks who don't necessarily play games out their comfort zone and then there's folks who also constantly chase the next thing you'll see people grinding a game in like a week or something then saying they bored and I'm like bruh I'm still outchea chasing backlog 😂 like this year with all the titles I've enjoyed i still haven't had time to touch something like Elden Ring and i know with God Of War and The Callisto Protocol dropping imma probably go through those and they'll take me into 2023 then I'd probably catch up. Coz it took me a good bunch of months to finish Forbidden West and Dying Light 2 coz i be playing at turtle pace 😭😭😭

I don't think gaming is actually that bad and most of the bad things today come from the gamers themselves. I see people complaining about cod (for example) but those people keep buying that same game every single year when there is hundreds and hundreds of games so much more worth playing. The amount of choice (and I mean actual quality choice) is so much bigger than before. Gamers speak with their mouths when they should be speaking with their wallets

The last time I was fully invested in a game was God of War 2018. The last time I was invested in an E3 was 2016 (not just the Sony conference). That being said I still tune into those events hoping and praying for something good. I used to pre order a lot around 2015/16 only to play for a month total then dump it. The realm of video game production, marketing has certainly changed. I agree with all your points here.I only purchase maybe two games a year now and that makes me sad. I’m not sure if there’s any stopping the framework for development or events now. Sometimes I get excited then the reviews come out. The only game I was planning on getting was the new GOW because I have faith in the studio that they will not screw it up. There is almost no guarantee of quality or stability on this industry.

thats honestly a very valid take! the abundance of options we have today in gaming at our fingertips could be one of the main reasons we complain about every small detail. i will tag on cash hungry companies too bc that is also a major reason like you mentioned. these both can tie into each other as well by companies releasing the SAME game over and over just with a different number attached to the title. very well made and thought out video Jeremy. Thats the problem. Those games are what people are playing these days. Before it was Fortnite and Apex Legneds and now its Among Us and Fall Guys. Why do people love these games so much? Because its fun to play with friends and the multiplayer is fun. Which is something that is lacking in today's games. Even COD is not getting enough attention as it used to be because the gameplay is all the same as it was before.

A lot of franchises have moved to mobile too especially in Japan. And yeah the big AAA games take longer to make and cost more now like you said. On PS2 a lot of franchises had 2 or 3 games on it and felt more complete and since then maybe 1 per generation that feels less complete. The dev cycles are longer and more expensive. And DLC like you said. And we're older and harder to please than when we were in middle school. There are a lot of factors.

One positive change that many don't appreciate these days is licensed games. It wasn't all that long ago that if a licensed game was announced, it wasn't a matter of how good it was going to be, it was more 'How are they going to screw this one up?' Nowadays, we get good licensed games from licenses like, Alien, South Park, Starship Troopers, Dune, LOTR/Middle-Earth, LEGO, Battlestar Galactica, Warhammer Fantasy/Warhammer40K, The Terminator, ect. If any of these franchises were announcing a game 10 years ago, it was almost guaranteed to be abominable. Not anymore.

As a guy that literally grew up in the video era (yea a 80's baby!) I see both sides as well. The industry is the top entertainment industry in the world so, the suits are definitely encouraging and pushing developers to focus on the dollars. Which I feel can kill the passion and effort in the product. Take Cyber punk 2077 for example trash release!!!! On the flip side gamers are a lil soiled too there are a lot of quality and quantity in the industry. Indies like kena and sifu hit hard this year! I have a few games in my back log now to be honest. I cant game as much as I once could but gaming is definitely better than it was than when I was a kid and young teen. Thinking about it I think when I was a kid it just hit different and the memories are pretty amazing and as a adult its not the same feeling... Midnight releases at the stores, chilling with friends gaming all afternoon, Strategy guides, Actual manuals in the game cases, etc. etc.

Thank you for finally addressing the elephant in the room, you're totally right about the desensitization with sooo many titles to choose from out there. I'm not a big fan of the microtransaction approach either because I think it takes away from the immersion of the game. I'd rather pay more money up front and get lost in the world. Part of the reason I play games is to forget about money and life for a while; it's escapism. I also think that updates have hurt the industry a little because they rely too much on the customer to be their beta tester. I'd love to see a company be ballsy enough to release a game with a statement that "what you get is what you get" and do no updates but I admit that's probably no longer possible due to the complexity of games today.

I was saying back in 2015 how games back in 2010 had graphics that still held up well and we shouldn't be asking to rapidly push for massive graphical improvements as that forsakes gameplay and fun. Gamers now look for what looks good rather than what looks fun. Developers weren't ready to jump 10 spaces ahead of where they were currently at. Now midern gamers can't stop asking for further graphical improvements and still be depressed over companies needing to make their money back from that work in sketchy ways.

The last bit of this video really resonated with me Mr. Jerm. I personally don't think gaming is in a terrible place at all, I really like where we are at even if I don't think we have had a lot of amazing AAA games that have dropped lately. I am rally enjoying al lthe options of Indie and AA games that we are getting all the time and I think people are sleeping hard on the fact that we have SO MANY options out there these days. When I was a kid because of money and sheer production, I felt like there were maybe 5-10 really good games a year and I played maybe 3-5 of them. Now, I think some really good games come out nearly every month, they just aren't all AAA. I also have a pretty wide palette for single player games so that helps too but I think people should try and expand their taste a bit if they think gaming is trash right now. Lots of good stuff out there if you are willing to give some other genres and gemetyps a try. I'll just throw out some of my favorite games of the last 5 years or games that just came out that are fun that people may be sleeping on. Disco Elysium (CRPG) Kingdom Come Delivernce (WRPG) Wasteland 3 (CRPG) Cult of the Lamb (Roguelike) Grounded (Survival/crafting) Yaakuza Like a Dragon (JRPG) Lost Judgment (Action RPG) It Takes Two (Coop platformer) Psychnauts 2( Platformer) Mount and Blade Bannerlord (Action RPG coming to console soon already on PC) Sifu (Action Brawler) Midngiht Fight Express (Action Brawler somewhat like Sifu) Monster Train (Deckbuilder) There is lots more but some of these games are under the radar to a lot of people who only look for t he big name stuff and all of t these are really good if you are into those genres. Good games are out there, you just have to be willing to look for them and put the time in to give them a chance.

I believe we as a gaming community do ask for a lot people can't really say it's dry when the library is so big now I have such a big backlog with that adult life preventing me from catching up that I can't say it's dry out here 😂 It's like you said it's more expensive now to invest in gaming and creating new experiences so people have to be patient and the best way to satisfy that patience is playing those older titles you missed out on. If you can't go forward might as well go back

I was surprised that you mentioned all this since Sony can’t play backwards compatible and they couldn’t even play the disc for ps1-ps3 games and why they can’t just do that it’s can’t be that hard to do and Sony couldn’t even play Music CD and at least with Microsoft they can still play that In their console from the original Xbox all the way up to the Xbox Series X and Sony used to start doing that with the ps2-ps3 console but I don’t remember if the og psone was able to play music cd and I like still playing my music too bro on my console but PlayStation 4&5 can’t play music cd so I have to play it on the Xbox one s instead

1:28 this man just can't help himself lmao. My main reason for not being as into gaming as I once was is because nearly all of my favorite franchises are now retired. Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Splinter Cell, Forbidden Siren etc all gone. Also lack if innovation. The last gaming innovation was Demon's Souls back in 2009. Stealh/Action and Survival Horror were my two primary genres and all I have to scratch that stealth itch is Hitman. Dishonored was the start of a nice new franchise but it sold poorly and now Arkane is making multiplayer games. Survival Horror looks to finally be making a combat, so there's that to look forward to.

There are less and less AAA that are good. And at the same time many players have gotten harder to be pleased. Sometimes I am in that position too, having tons of good games, many didn't even tried, but still saying there is nothing to play. We are living in a toxic society, in a toxic gaming period.

I went back to playing old games because the newer ones are just not interesting me. Maybe because of games costing $70 has turned me off or maybe because I am getting old and I have barely have time to play most games because I need to focus stuff going on my personal life, but whatever it is, gaming too me has gotten pretty stale and boring.

While I’ve had to give up gaming for the past few months, I can say that the overall quality of games nowadays is better than ever. We have photorealistic graphics, smooth frame rates, and top notch acting. Now this is generally the case for Singleplayer games; Multiplayer games are a different story, which have suffered heavily at the hands of greedy publishers. Personally, I don’t play MP games, so I’m indifferent, but SP games have almost always delivered for me. I also have such a large backlog of older games that I really look forward to playing so I don’t always need some big AAA release to keep me satisfied. I could honestly go months if not a year just riding my backlog because there’s just that much to play. While a lot of the criticism towards gaming is warranted, a lot of is also BS from spoiled brats.

I can relate to this so much man! Recently sold my PS5 because other obligations are my priority right now, felt like gaming needed to take a backseat in my life. I think what partially contributed me selling my console was the lackluster games over the past few years!

4:12 dude this happened the last video game crash it's not the amount of games or gamers being hard to please it's the quality of games yes we have a back log of 30-40 games but only 3-4 of them have any replay value The rest either have no replay value or are quick cash grabs that eventually fail The reason why most these games are free to play is because you probably wouldn't pay for them otherwise

Great video. Everything you said was on point. Gaming imo is better than ever. When it comes to Sony exclusives and indies.But Xbox’s approach with gamepass. Although seems awesome. It’s watering games down. I’ve had gamepass for 3 years now. I’ve only beaten maybe 5 games off of it. And 3 of them were yakuza games lol. I think Sony and Nintendo have the right approach though. Also sports games have gone way down hill. 70 bucks for a roster update every year is insane. 2k is cool this year cus of the Jordan challenge, but every time I get on 2k. They wanna sell me stuff. It feels so Grimey and makes me not even wanna touch it.

The AAA games industry is definitely on a downturn, but Indie market is straight up kicking ass. Games like Soulstice, Hades, TemTem, and dozens of others go to show that the best games out there aren't being made by the big studios (barring Santa Monica Studios obv) but are being made by Indie devs. If the AAA game industry implodes, we will always have Indies to play.

In my opinion I think you hit the nail on the head we just have so many factors to consider on why gaming nowadays is kind of lame on some level it's the gamers fault and on some level it's the developers fault I think also it's a fault of the times we have so much at a click of a button but we never satisfied new and great things fade Out of existence quicker than ever I think now as a society we're in the state that we have so much but so little because of our values

I think Vaas was right, many like myself have become insane, read the full quote and it just might hit you, but im getting to the point where im giving up. Movies, Books, music the outdoors. When I do game I often am spending more time on the 360 an ps2 than any of this new hardware/software. Been slowly drifting away for years, after my man glen's game comes out I may move on from the industry.Its become stagnant, fixed in place, perhaps it always was? Is the industry done for or have we just grown out of it? Hmm..

A lot of these same arguments go hand in hand with television... Too many options, we are spoiled for choice, which in my opinion is not a good thing for the health of any entertainment media, because as you can see, it only leads to more unhappy and whiny people.
