Had to do this the other day. Was in survival mode (it was that windy a Wayfarer had capsized) and big waves. Saw it on one of your videos Joe got us out of trouble that day thank you!!!

It’s funny……I use to do that 20 years ago on a Prindle 18. Your videos will help a bunch. Going to pick up a Nacra 5.8 on Saturday. Have back up plan for a Hobie 16 if the first falls through. Your videos are so informative! Thanks

Yes!!! I'm very pleased for you that you're getting back in the game. I hope that the 5.8 looks sharp!

Hi, this seems exactely what I meant some time ago in a response. The other day all of a sudden it did not work. I wondered why. I was sailing with quite some wind and with very difficult waves (short waves on the ijsselmeer, a very big lake). Now watching your video it seems that my mistake this time was to release the jib while tacking. Than it does not work. I sail with different people a lot so I am not allways conscious of their different styles of dealing with the jib and so I did not understand what was going on. It was quite a problematic situation, the brain does not always function that well under stress. Thanks again!
@JoyriderTV4 ай бұрын
Yes, keeping the jib cleated until the boat starts moving forward really helps.

@@JoyriderTV Moving forward or backward you mean?
@JoyriderTV4 ай бұрын
@@daanvangeijlswijk7787 i'd keep it cleated until the boat is sailing forwards

I wonder if you could show this tack with more of an emergency situation? I am not sure whether you keep the main sheet clamped or not in your example. Thanks!
@JoyriderTV4 ай бұрын
what would be the nature of the emergency situation?
@daanvangeijlswijk77874 ай бұрын
@@JoyriderTV High wind and short waves that stop the cat from 'sliding though the tack'. Where I sail I allways have these short waves (ijsselmeer) and they make the static tack necessary all the time.

@JoyriderTV3 ай бұрын
Yes, I can certainly do that. I'll see if I can do it in the next days. In the meantime - here's an older video showing the method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4LNp2Cbd5J_h9k
