Bruegel the Elder is the most under appreciated artist in western culture. Thank you for this wonderful overview of his work.

OMG I'm practising my French too! I don't know where Michel Draguet is from, his French is very clear, I'm really enjoying trying to understand what he's saying. Probably missing a few things but it's wonderful anyway as he speaks so well. I wish the camera slowed down a bit to let us see the paintings better as they're so fabulous. Thank you for showing us these beautiful works. I'd love to visit your museum and your country in the near future. #stayhomestaysafe

A little English here from an American..around Christmas in 1993 my wife and I were in England...London. We were due to leave soon after some three weeks holiday going around the country using our BritRail Pass..we had a good system then..6 days at the Strand Hotel then leaving our luggage there carry hand bags from Bed & Breakfast to Bed & Breakfast from town to town at semi random using our Tour Book..and ending at the Strand Hotel again.So we were going back to a book store that had a nice set of The Dictionary of English Furniture (3 Vol) that we had seen..£300..on that street I think maybe it was Jeremy St..or St.James St. it was off a very main street to which at the end was the book store.There were shoppes with the most beautiful things at a most beautiful Christmas time in the early evening...in one of those shoppes we stood in front of had a Painting on the wall just inside the window, we were just melting looking at the fineness and beauty of that thing with my lovely wife..and the lady inside with the friendliest face sitting at a desk in this small shop just waves us in. She buzzes us in and we are just amazed at this painting just freakin incredible looking we just stood there in disbelief at the thing. In the end I turned to the lady and said.."it is incredible..just like the real thing"..and the lady say's.."That is the real thing" ..I said what !..I looked to the right on a small card and it say's Pieter Bruegel £1,000,000. That was one of our favorite memories on one of the best holiday's we ever had..the kindness of that lady to let us in was the most beautiful thing after seeing us so much admiring it at the window. If we had anywhere near that money....we really did love it enough to buy it.

Gracias infinitas. P.D.: por si no bastara el disfrute de la clase he tomado nota de Tine LuK Megank, entre otros, autor (según consulta) del libro "Erudite Eyes: Friendship, Art & Erudition in the Network of Abraham Ortelius (1527 - 1598), Studies in Netherlandish Art & Cultural History. Repito las gracias, profesor Draguet.

Musee des Beaux Arts W. H. Auden About suffering they were never wrong, The old Masters: how well they understood Its human position: how it takes place While someone else is eating or opening a window or just walking dully along; How, when the aged are reverently, passionately waiting For the miraculous birth, there always must be Children who did not specially want it to happen, skating On a pond at the edge of the wood: They never forgot That even the dreadful martyrdom must run its course Anyhow in a corner, some untidy spot Where the dogs go on with their doggy life and the torturer's horse Scratches its innocent behind on a tree. In Breughel's Icarus, for instance: how everything turns away Quite leisurely from the disaster; the ploughman may Have heard the splash, the forsaken cry, But for him it was not an important failure; the sun shone As it had to on the white legs disappearing into the green Water, and the expensive delicate ship that must have seen Something amazing, a boy falling out of the sky, Had somewhere to get to and sailed calmly on.

@alfredvikingelegant91564 жыл бұрын
