A door/window magnet alarm would be a cheap and funny addition. That way it would scare the sh*t out of anyone who opens it, and potentially trigger a flight response. You might even could hack apart a re-recordable greeting card or a re-recordable sound module to make it work when the shelf is open. Guard dogs barking, an ear full of curse words, a song playing, or even a simple "Welcome back" would be kinda neat feature imo. Idk, I just had a few ideas I thought I'd share. Maybe send a shelf to my momma if you add them as a feature in your kickstarter? :)

Neat idea, I would prefer a supported opening system for a product I would buy. The chains while functional wouldn't prevent the full weight of the hinged part from dropping down violently if it slipped out of your grasp. Such an abrupt drop might cause the whole shelf to come down depending on the contents of the hidden compartment?

The ones TKOR is selling between $150-170, $350 for a 3-pack. Other companies seem to sell them for a starting price of $170 then quickly rack up more dollars as the item is slightly changed. One company charges $50 to paint one, whereas you could buy the paint for less than $3 and a $1 brush to pain it yourself (might need primer though) or just leave it looking natural. Several other companies I've seen start their prices at double the above.

Sir Williams People do own floating shelves that are just floating shelves. Doubt someone aiming to steal would destroy random furniture just in case there was something inside it. They'd have to know ahead of time, hence the name "stealth" as in you don't advertise you own one. Pretty simple.
