I’m a 18 year old welder and I ride a transition spire which like the patrol on test has a poppy feeling ride that I really enjoy. I would seriously consider this bike purely because of all the fabrication and machining that goes into it , I also really like the option to customize the Geomatry because I’m really tall at 6’10 . By far the most beautiful bike on test .

The rear suspension design and shock are so good it shows the limits of the telescopic fork (aka the pogo stick...) design! Not in the budget this year, but for the trails here in Nelson, it would kick ass! I'll wait for the Contra MC 2.0

Question on idler bikes: Do they use a regular full length chain or do they need extra links?
@wantahertzdonut2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to join 2 chains. I'm sure you'll be able to buy extra long chains for these bikes in the future.
@jpalipio34532 жыл бұрын
@@wantahertzdonut Thanks. I wonder if this effects chain longevity.
@wantahertzdonut2 жыл бұрын
@@jpalipio3453 A longer chain will last longer. Each link sees less use because it comes around less often than a shorter chain.

What is the life expectancy of these frames? most of you aren't old enough to remember delicate steel framed full-sus bikes, or the fact that we were happy to have such crappy wheels so they would explode before our frame.... I can't imagine riding modern trails with modern wheels, suspension and brakes on an old steel bike. I give the rear triangle 3 months and about the same for the front end to collapse at the first big 50/50
@BurnsRubber2 жыл бұрын
Why do you say that? CroMoly doesn’t fatigue like carbon or aluminum. With strong welds, you could ride this frame for a lifetime and hand it down to your grand kid.
@nolansloboda45082 жыл бұрын
I’m in the welding industry and as long as the frame is made from the right Alloy and is properly heat treated their shouldn’t be any issues
@1PotatoeMasher12 жыл бұрын
Steel makes the price almost more bearable than a crazy carbon frame, based on durability and longevity alone. It can outlast you, long past the pain of initial investment.

I've got to be honest, I'm a little disappointed in this year's Field test. These bikes are all well over $10k CDN and completely out of reach for the vast majority of riders - making the reviews meaningless. I'm not alone in saying I would sincerely appreciate a field test of some midrange priced models.
