All we heard last year when we beat the Bengals twice was “oh Joe burrow wasn’t playing” so if the team’s starting QB isn’t playing than it’ll just be a storyline of “is the Steelers defense legit” playing against a backup. You don't "make" receivers out of 28 year old busts who haven't improved on the deficiencies in their game that made them bust, nor can you "make" a receiver out of someone who isn't stout enough physically/not anywhere near good enough route runner to not be constantly knocked off the stem of his route (the part before the break that includes properly leveraging a DB to put their body between the defender and the throw). There's a reason they were all in on Aiyuk. Then, when that fell through, I think they bought the "fools gold" that is Van Jefferson -& how he looks spectacular vs practice squad DBs/bland coverage in the preseason, then is metrically one of the worst starting WRs since 2000 in the regular season. Austin is way closer to being a Dri Archer than he is a Dionte Johnson. Finally, expecting Roman Wilson, a mid round slot, who is prob is too small to play outside, & who is also coming off a lower body injury that cost him nearly all of camp, to produce like a #2 anytime soon is setting the kid up for failure.

I feel like Khan has made it obvious that we are not looking to trade for a WR. I believe they are looking at Roman Wilson to come in and be the number 2 (filling DJ's role) and probably stick with Jefferson or, more likely CA III in the slot. Honestly, I feel like Juju was an easy "grab" when he got cut and we didn't go for him (a good fit for the slot position, at least) so, I think we are set with our Wide-outs this year. I just hope Roman can come in and take some heat off of GP because he is going to get double-teamed more and more as the season goes on. With GP, RW, CAIII, and Muth at TE...maybe that's enough???

Adam Theilen would be a fantastic fit and it’s exactly what they need. GP can stretch down the field, Theilen can easily fil in the role of short route running catching in traffic type of player, which is what a #2 does.
