As a Steelers fan, I will never forget the Cleveland Browns' undefeated seasons of 1996, 1997, and 1998. I will also never forget this game in which we broke the Browns franchise 3-year unbeaten streak. Wow. Glorious times.

Pittsburgh is 32-8 against the Browns since their return to the NFL (including this game). The Browns are 112-239-1 overall since 1999 and have 3 winning seasons since then. Pittsburgh on the other hand is 223-127-2 in the same time period with 3 Super Bowl appearances, winning 2 and with only 2 losing seasons, one of which happened to be 1999. Pittsburgh has also won their division 10 times in that time period. Cleveland hasn't won a division since 1989. Cleveland has had 13 different head coaches in that time period. Pittsburgh has only had 2 since 99, 3 since 1969, and 16 in its entire history (one such coach did coach them on 3 different occasions though). Cleveland has had 33 different starting QB's in that period while Pittsburgh has had 12. You have to go back to 1964 to get to 33 starting QB's for Pittsburgh.

@JonPITBZN 4 жыл бұрын
@@AlBeQuirky, the Steelers did not have Tee Martin yet. Pitt product and non-notable NFL player Pete Gonzalez was the #3 quarterback. This game was actually the only time he saw the field. The best Steeler in the 1999 draft class is someone you definitely should remember: Aaron Smith! Jerame Tuman, the TE, was alright when he wasn't a starter. Same for Troy Edwards (an okay #3 WR and ST guy) and Zereoue (good backup, piss-poor starter).

"They are our Cleveland Browns, and keep your hands off them." - Cleveland Mayor Michael White, 1995. Possibly Mayor White got beat down big time by Steeler fans during the game. Cleveland Stadium's last Opening Day featured the widows of Indians pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews being honored. The Browns' first game back should've had Miss Olin and Miss Crews with Drew Carey. How about Miss Olin, Miss Crews, Drew Carey, and the entire cast of "Whose Line is it Anyway" and "The Drew Carey Show" start for the Browns at Heinz Field this season? Maybe Steve Olin and Tim Crews might back up Baker Mayfield!

You can tell even back then they had storylines to follow. At the end the announcers have to mention home town stadium attendance and make over how the Browns have returned and BLATANTLY misspeaks and says “Browns with a 43-0 shut out over the Steelers.” To the announcers credit he sounded annoyed saying it. But that was interesting to me how the narrative stuff has always been around.
