Agree. I ignore if you tried it, but I did , and I confirm that this video is nice but doesn't really show how steep the slope is (but it is broad now). For the Olympics, the start was higher than it is now for common skiers. And I had the privilege to ski it just as they re-opened the slope, a few days after the Olympics' competitions. Oh my ! the slope is steep, and above all, is was a frozen toboggan. It wasn't "snow", it was something different, blue, noisy. I can say I'm a good skier, but on this slope, I wasn't playing smart. Great Memory !

@@alainsalle7760 I agree, it's less impressive than in reality. I must have done it 15 times. In my opinion the pleasure you take greatly depends on the quality of the snow. It's not worth it if it's icy. The guy is lucky in the vid, it's not crowded at all.

As it's a North facing slope, I've always found it icy first thing in the morning. Best time for me is around lunch time when the snow has softened a little and before the overcrowding starts in the afternoon. Biggest problem is navigating a way through people who stop at the top of the slope and those who go latitudinally across the fall line. It is intimidating first time down but progressively becomes easier and more enjoyable. Great Piste.

I love this piste , you must be very good skier to be that fast in the steepest part ! Pity the film doesn't really show the difficulty of he slope, I can tell you it's very hard to go that fast on the second half of the run without any stop. Luckyly the snow was very good, try it when it is icy and bumpy ( most of the time at days end) it's a very, very different story and impossible to do it the same way apart for professional racers.

Dude it is steepish in some sections, but really not that bad. The conditions looked great in the video, often the moguls are rotten. That was nice controlled skiing but mot fast, I'm not fast, but all those breaks of slope where the cart tracks cross the piste I used to hit off those and get some long air. The fast skiers absolutely smash down that face in those conditions, so quiet too.

this slope can sometimes look like more of a skeleton track rather than a ski piste. Also the fact that you have to ski this to get down to village makes it pretty dangerous. I've had to stop kids and beginners multiple times while they were sliding down at high speed.

Actually, the run above Grand Motte is even steeper and longer, especially if you hike up above the funicular around the back-side and then ski the face back to the longest run in Val d’Isere (Grand Motte down to Tignes). Even more spectacular is off-piste at Col Peres, where you ski into the abyss like in a Warren Miller film...after starting in Val d’Isere with a series of 4 lifts then a bit of a hike/traverse until you see the entrance...Bon Chance!!!

How is the slopes calculated? 96% of what? In Sweden we calculate by angles. 90 degrees equals entirely free fall, which is nearly impossible - the snow wouldn't stay. The steepest slopes in Sweden is a little bit more than 45 degrees.
@ivokoimecs3 жыл бұрын
Hi! 100% slope is equal to 45 degrees, 0% - completely flat. This system is used by FIS to describe steepness of pistes or race courses. As well as for roads and railways, even in Sweden - check the road signs. For more info please search Wikipedia for "Slope". The source of specific numbers I'm using in video is geodata, which may not be very precise, keep this in mind. Have a nice day!

A 96% slope is a slope which falls 96 metres over 100 meters horizontal displacement. This is an angle with target of 96/100 = 0.96 . The corresponding angle is about 44°. I guess it sounds more dangerous if you express the slope as a percentage.%. In any case, it is very steep!

that looks like a green run

My thoughts exactly

Yeah they often use green runs for the Olympic downhill skiing events
@johnnicholson83453 жыл бұрын
@@edkes123 if you can even ski, next time you're on a blue run point your skis straight down hill and don't turn. You too will be traveling at 60-70mph.
@edkes1233 жыл бұрын
@@johnnicholson8345 I do ski, I have done for quite a long time. I've also skied La Face many times, and it couldn't be further from a green run. I don't really understand your point.
@2204JCM3 жыл бұрын
This is the run you do at the end of the day when your legs are done and your coming down off the slopes for the day. Otherwise a snooze fest….
@markhurlin7153 жыл бұрын
Great video however it definitely steeper in real life 😂👍
@johnnicholson83453 жыл бұрын
If he's correct in saying the average slope is 33% that would be a blue run. Steep runs are over 30 degrees which is much, much steeper. basically a real steep slope you wouldn't be slaloming down but rather hop turns.
@ivokoimecs3 жыл бұрын
Seems you are confusing percentages with degrees, as well as average and maximum slopes. Typical blue run has about 15% avg and 35% max slope.
@markhurlin7153 жыл бұрын
My point is the video is great, and that I’ve skied down that slope numerous times and it is steep regardless of degrees 👍
@jean-jacqueslalanne963 жыл бұрын
Definitively not a blue run.... I made it several times with very different weather, and I recall each run ( I made thousands I do not recall....).
@foyorama Жыл бұрын
I did it last year and yes it is long run and probably not for beginners, however for experience skiers it is quite an easy run... I can tell is not that steep because it is groomed, really steep and difficult runs cannot be groomed
@straightshooter84432 жыл бұрын
Man. How often do you just want to say screw it and full send. Those slopes look inviting to just take off.
@slydogy413 жыл бұрын
Nice and wide, if it gets too scary just turn sideways and ski across the slope and take it slow.

Not the steepest or hardest run in the resort. Try Foret up at Le Fornet

nice video, great landscape. I'm not sure about the music edit. It doesn't suit the chill video

Thanks! This piste definitely is not a chill ... :) But check the description, there is a surprise for you ... 😀👍

Not the steepest slope in Val d’Isere. Foret is steeper and more narrow, unpisted and tough

This is all the skiing I'll be doing this year!!!!!!!!!!!!Yeah, the music is silly. Too many big slow turns on the last steep.
@ivokoimecs3 жыл бұрын
Yea, I was looking for better grip in between ice patches. It was a bit icy in the morning.
@ivokoimecs3 жыл бұрын
OK, got it, no more music. Check the description, there is a version without music, just pure natural sound of skiing! ... :)
@njs_gc3 жыл бұрын
That last part was steep. I would struggle when it went into the shade.
@ivokoimecs3 жыл бұрын
Actually it depends on snow conditions, the very last part was fine with a pretty good grip, while the upper part of the steep had ice patches and that was a bit scary - if you fall there you will slide all the way down ... 😀
@njs_gc3 жыл бұрын
@@ivokoimecs It looked well groomed so I think I'd be ok, but I'm as blind as a bat so in the shade I would be going super slow. But nice video. Can't wait to get back to Europe to ski.
@davehoover88533 жыл бұрын
What was that? Your title says the steepest piste, but you just cruised an easy groomer? Don’t get it.
@simontuffen82433 жыл бұрын
The top section is not steep but the whole run is labelled "black" as there's only 1 route. There are some fairly steep sections in the middle and near the bottom that are much steeper than it looks on camera.
