The Reliant Robin is a small three wheeled car formerly manufactured by the Reliant Motor Company in Tamworth, England. Despite its size, by being a three-wheeler with an official weight below 450 kg (992 lb), the Robin can be driven by holders of a B1 category licence[2] or car licence in the United Kingdom, and registered and taxed at motorcycle rates, which gives considerable savings(55 GBP per year) over a conventional car. The single wheel in the front steers, while the engine (also in the front) drives the rear axle.
The Robin was first manufactured in November 1973, a direct replacement for the Reliant Regal. The final original version of the Robin rolled off the production line in 1981, when the model was replaced by the restyled Reliant Rialto. The vehicle was also produced under licence in Greece by MEBEA between 1974 and 1978. It was also manufactured in India by Sunrise Automotive Industries Limited as Badal.

Almost got it back on it's wheels again! If he rolled it then continued the lap, maybe rolling it three or four more times before finishing but always getting it back on it's wheels and finishing, this would have been The Stig's greatest moment of awesomeness.

This is different from the roll of the car during high-speed cornering. most comments here by people that have NEVER owned one, I had 3 over 21 years, did more than 40,000 miles, never had ANY worrying moments! I started driving it carefully believing myself that it goes over on corners! but as I gained confidence drove it faster, it does lean to the side a bit as it has soft suspension in the rear, but by myself , or with my Mum n Dad n dog in, lovely to drive! unless your a nutter who drives like a sports car driver all the time! I was well happy on a motorbike licence with my 3 wheelers! did everything I wanted! in short, you drive to suit your vehicle, no problems then!

22 seconds from 0-60 in the first version according to Jeremy Clarkson. They made a faster model with another 100cc's, which helped speed up the car, but the engine weighed so much at the back end that it would only drive on the back two wheels and drag the bumper if you accelerated too hard.

@@wharris302 Just caught that mistake 8 years later, thanks. That could be the driver's body and any other stuff in the car being pushed back by acceleration tipping the car backwards, and the weight of the engine keeping it there. Or it could also be theatrics.

I meant in this configuration; it makes alot more sense to have one wheel in back and two in front, instead of the other way around. that way it would still fall under the motorcycle category, but it would have 2 wheels to steer with, and you only really need 1 wheel (the rear center one) for power. thanks though!

@CheazyPeaz Um, those wheels are the same size, the chassis is lifting up and pushing down through that turn, which makes it look like it's smaller. Plus, of course there's a rollcage. You think they'd put someone in there without one? Or a racing harness? They add certain things to the cars for laps so that they have extra protection against that stuff.

Yeah. It could have been a decent car if they had simply reversed it. The BMW Isetta is tall, short and has very small wheels. But because it has two wheels in the front and one in the back and they don't roll. The Morgan three wheeler is another. That works. And its not like its much harder to make a steering arrangement that steers two wheels instead of one.

they don't roll over easy! the reliant's used in top gear were modified to make them roll over easy. I'm taking it your an American dude or something. The 3 wheeler was quite popular in the UK during the late 20th century and was made so you can drive them on a motorcycle licence and the tax is half the price. It was also built as a economical car. I think they are cool. I have seen them go around corners and roundabouts and they handle it fine!
