For all those wondering why the Exorcist didn’t win, it has come out in recent years that Robert Aldrich (who had the film snatched out his hands by Friedkin) and George Cukor (who was a fundamentalist Christian and fervent enemy of the subject matter), two of the biggest names in the Academy, as well as a small cabal of directors and producers who didn’t like Friedkin and his what he represented personally, sent around messages deterring Academy voters from selecting the Exorcist for the two main awards (Director and Picture). Friedkin confirmed this in a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, I believe.

Marlene Dietrich once referred to Elizabeth as that British tart with the big chest. Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, DBE (born 27 February 1932), is an English-born British-American actress. Elizabeth lived in London for the first seven years of her life before the family left when the dark clouds of war began brewing in 1939. A family friend noticed the beautiful little Elizabeth and suggested that she be taken for a screen test. The as you can say, is history.

@@jeanninegodwin2285 have you ever seen photos of her? Taken by paparazzi while on the beach? No makeup? She was stunningly beautiful. During the making of national velvet, the director sent her back to the make up room and told the make up artist, “I thought I told you not to put mascara on this child’s eyes.“ The make up artist replied that there was no eye make up on her. She just had that many eyelashes. She had two rows of eyelashes on the top and the bottoms of her eyes. True story

In fact, anyone with dark hair plus light eyes will be considered beautiful in almost any country. But besides beauty, Elizabeth had some extra glamour and exuberance.

1. The Sting totally deserved to win. Everyone ( the majority) saying the Exorcist should win etc etc etc. It's a great film but not that great. I think it's a bit overrated. 2. Papillon was robbed that it wasn't nominated for Best Picture. Unbelievable. 3. Great movies in 1973 that could be one of the 5 nominated movies such as Paper Moon, Mean Streets, Badlands 4. Lovely Elizabeth Taylor. A great actress and the definition of Star. RIP
