The Eddie aside, the Backdoor Shootout is the only truly legit surf contest there is. If all contests were conducted with that integrity, spirit and creativity the surfing world would evolve sharply in a more positive direction. That's not a surfing contest, it's a Surfer's Contest. Greetings BL, sorry to hear about the hip issues mate...all the best in that. I watched the Eddie in its entirety, and the magnitude of this event never disappoints. What was disappointing to me was the interview Paige Alms gave... She really exhibited a bummer attitude about them not being able to organize this type of event just for the women. I felt it kind of really threw shade to the honor of having men and women surfing together in the most prestigious event known in surfing... To be invited is such a privilege itself, and while obviously I wasn't surfing in this event and given the conditions have to be what they are for the event to run, her performance was lackluster in the platform she was given in her interview should have really been expressed in a positive way to be included. Too bad Keala is still suffering with her hip, was looking forward to her going full send. See you in the new year brother 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Thanks for sharing that Matt, obvioulsly I never saw the interview you are refering to but wouldve thought the women would be stoked to surf the event and surf with the men and go at it together, sounds fair to me but all good. Thanks for watching.

On the whole I liked Luke but pulling in at the peak and somehow escaping like Landon did is just about unheard of and impossible but especially as a goofy. Seeing that from the shoulder or the channel would be simply outrageous, videos never do justice.

Yes I think the result was an accurate reflection on the best 3 waves on the day and then there is always different opinions but that perfect ride from Landon was a perfect ride by all accounts and set up the win. From where I was in the tower, commentating, not seeing replays, and hardly being able to identify the colours I wouldnt be the right person to answer your question but I saw or heard nothing to dispute his win.

What did you think about keeping most of the scores secret in the Eddie? I was torn. Part of me wanted to know and the other part enjoyed the surprise factor. Maybe you can chat on this next time, rather than opinion now.
