Although Second Coming was not as glorious or unique as their debut and is mostly written by John Squire alone, it is still underrated. Other tunes worth checking out are Love Spreads, Tightrope, Breaking Into Heaven, Tears and Begging You. This album got slated in the British music press, partly cos the Roses only gave one interview for their return with this album...which was to The Big Issue for free which is a magazine sold on the streets by homeless people in order to give them a regular income and a helping hand back into society.

This will always be the greatest song I ever hear - I fucking love this song. Squire at his very very best. Lyrically it’s brilliantly written by Squire and whilst Ian hates it he sings it well and drives it forward. Squires riff in the chorus is the hook and well as Ian firing out “Goodtimes Baby” and then the final outro by Squire encompasses his development from the first album to the 2nd. The perfect sound for that Les Paul as well. Absolute perfection.

As a Brit growing up in the 90s, this band was our anthem....and so tragically underrated. Oasis credits Stone Roses as their inspiration which is saying something....Brown, Squire, Mani and Reni are geniuses in their own right.

I love this album. I'm so glad they didn't make a carbon copy of 1st album. This is so different as all albums from artist's should be. I can't stand bands who make the same album over and over again. Long live the Roses 🍋 Forever in our hearts ✌️

Yes, the first album was amazing, and everyone loved it. This album is still stunning! The first one recalls the 60s, this one, for me, the 70s. I like a lot of the Brit Pop which came right after, but these guys can blow them all away. Hope you do "Begging You" and "How Do You Sleep "...screw it, do the whole album!

The criticism of this album was really unfair. I admit I was one of those disappointed fans at the time, but with a bit distance it's a great album that suffers in comparison with one of the best debuts of all time (3rd in my personal list). It helps I'm a massive Led Zep fan as well! Good request.

It's such a shame because in the UK the album was trashed because some fans and critics felt john was sounding too much like led zeppelin (which at the time were for some stupid reason Zeppelin were not cool). In retrospect I think this album is finally being appreciated. Glad you guys like it. Play "Driving South" from that record, the riffs are absolutely raw, bluesy and heavy.

To me this is more of a great performance than a great song. It’s a decent song though, but quite a few others on Second Coming tower above it, IMO. You’re both spot on though about the bass, drums and especially the guitar, wow! Also great to point out excellent vocals from Ian Brown on this one. Despite getting what you mean, I always preferred his more hushed vocals from the debut album. Second Coming has definitely grown on me over the years but I was so incredibly disappointed in at after that 5 + year wait. Great album though with some classics.

Their first album came out my senior year in high school and Second Coming came out the year after I graduated college. Any momentum they had for a bigger following in America was lost.

My least favourite track by The Roses, run of the mill pub rock, its got no roll or soul, sounds like a half finished demo and is not even as good as their b-sides, does not sound like or represent the band, should never have seen the light of day. Keep on keeping on boys, despite my rant you 2 are still my favourite reaction channel.
