Highway To Hell- AC/ DC 1981 Freshman yr of HS and a group of my friends think its a good idea to go on a Church sponsored retreat weekend at a nearby lakehouse. I figured it would be something to do since a lot of girls were also going. I packed some things for the weekend and brought my boombox with this album with me. When I arrived, the CYO counselors made me hand in the boombox and told me it was not allowed. They also didnt appreciate my denim jacket filled with metal band patches and pins. Another girl who came was wearing an AC/ DC concert shirt with the Highway To Hell album cover. The counselors gave my boombox back for one hour over the entire weekend and I ended up hanging with the AC DC girl while listening to this out by the lake. The rest of that weekend was absolutely horrendous and I never entertained another retreat again.

DAY 28-BUDGIE-If I Were Britannia I'd Waive The Rules (1976) Hi everybody, Friends, Well I go back to remember when seeing this album as my first to get then others In For The Kill and the ones back catalog then I would go forward. I was and always to try and have the complete of the band. I need the debut their album Squawk again both that I used to have on vinyls and Bandolier and You're All Living In Cuckooland to complete as well as live stuff. Otherwise have the rest of catalog on vinyl. And if I don't get to do that cause as to hard with prices well then real cheap cds would fair if see them. This album and with the great Tony Bourge on guitar and Burke Shelley and his high voice and Steve Williams on drums. I would spin this album a whole lot. A great find like in late 70s early 80s. Would remember friends and like Montie friend of mine on most days growing up childhood friend. Did alot together. I do miss him. And well some good times and not so times the music would get or bring things thru listening to them. Even in high times and in low . And when high. Anyway the tracks heavy and prog rock some too and of Anne Negron Then the self titled tracks great and Quacktor and Bureacrat highlights with me as well as Sky high Percentage and the super Black Velvet Stallion which is great and Bourge's work playing simply amazing and intoxicating. He is so good on this record and other records he was on. And the bass and Shelleys voice and he drums good also. This album stuck with me and it's a good one as fave to tell the story that I come along with. And think I got it used but may have been gotten fresh, Getting at record store, I give the album 3.5 and sometimes just stretching its neck to 4 as it tries. There you are take care all and have good day. I am so so. Be well yourself Miles Davis nice choice and story Pete TY host/friend . Love hugs and prayers to all. 🎶🎶❤ the record. Burke Shelley - bass, lead vocals Tony Bourge - guitar, backing vocals; lead vocals (track 6) Steve Williams - drums Guest musicians Richard Dunn - keyboards ============= Anne Neggen 408 If I Were Britannia I'd Waive The Rules 550 You're Opening Doors 420 Quacktor And Bureaucats 354 Sky High Percentage 558 Heaven Knows Our Name 350 Black Velvet Stallion 809 ===================== 🎶🎶❤🤗🙏☮

Christmas 1973 I was 11 yrs old. There was a song 🎵 I really loved that just came out. Rock ON by David ESSEX. I walked to. Mickey music Records in my hometown. I wanted the 45 rpm. They didn’t have it. Only the entire album said Mickey the clerk. He said it’s good. Bought entire album, went home played it , he was right. Some underrated stuff on there. Recently, slapped it on with my cheap record player. Brought back great memories/ probably didn’t play it in 50 ? Years. Thanks. Pete for your time 👍💯

Yes-Relayer (1974) Yes is not my favorite prog band anymore (=Genesis), but somehow they were the flagship group that in many ways steered my musical taste in 1994-95. I think the first true prog album I bought was The Dark Side of the Moon (or A Trick of the Tail?) in early 1994, but I've never been a massive Pink Floyd fan. Soon after I had become acquainted a little with PF and the '70s Genesis, I remember my classmate at the commercial college (?) asking whether I'd ever heard Yes; I had to admit that I only knew "Owner of a Lonely Heart". Of course I then had to find out more. Around the same time, I saw an interview in a Finnish rock magazine where the frontman of the band CMX, A.W. Yrjänä, declared that Yes' Relayer was the best album ever. Alrighty then! It was some time after I had graduated and before I was going to perform the compulsory military service when I got this album: "Gates of Delirium", absolutely loved it. "Sound Chaser", did not like it (still don't, where's the heart & soul???). "To Be Over", it's fine. So, while the album didn't completely blow me away, I liked it enough to keep on exploring, and soon I got all their '70s classics, and Yes became my #1 band for a while. Not just that, but then I also started buying more and more records by other notable prog bands; Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant and, well, Pink Floyd too. Nowadays, I still have a few Yes CDs (including Relayer), and I listen to those fairly regularly. Overall, a quite uneven catalog, but the good stuff (basically the '70s for me) is really good and innovative, and the playing was always suberb.

I was familiar with Styx but I never really listened to them. Come Sail Away was such a good song that I bought the cassette tape the following week. I loved it top to bottom. Miss America was such a good riffing song. What’s special about Styx is that they have 3 singers in the band. Very diverse band with great musicianship. I enjoy them still till this day. This time I have a story about an album that until yesterday was the only album I knew exact date when I bought it. 18th of August 1984. I was visiting with my family my father's relatives in small town where he was from, South-West from Sarajevo, some 4 hours drive. Usually we would stay with relatives outside of town, but this time we stayed in hotel Posušje, named after the town itself. Town was (and still is) quite small, back then 4,500 inhabitants while whole municipality had 16,000. Pretty poor town with a lot of people working in West Germany. Town had just few shops so people needed to go to nearby towns like Imotski or Mostar to buy anything other then essential. In 1980, department store was opened, named Posušanka. Usually, department stores were named as female inhabitant of town or city. Being close to the hotel, I checked it out and found also some albums. One I bought, my first U2 album - October. I had to wait to come back home to listen to it and I liked it a lot, also subsequent albums up to and including Rattle and Hum. I have all the others as well, but that was more of a collector's curse than enjoyment. And how I know the date? I wrote it on album as it was my 300th album (everything 12 inches included) so I marked it. 0:56

I can't quite remember whether this was late 89 or early 90, but I had a 3 track flexidisc given away with one of the current, at the time, music magazines. It was edited tracks from an upcoming debut album by UK rock band, THUNDER. I later learned they really were a revamped version of the band Terraplane, who due to record company interference, had 'lost their way' after a promising debut album. With Thunder, they were determined to play the music they loved, hard edged heavy British blues rock inspired by the likes of Zeppelin, The Stones, The Faces, The Who, Humble Pie and especially Free and Bad Company. I duly bought their first two 12 inch singles with free posters. Just prior to the release of their much anticipated debut album, Danny, Luke and 'Arry from the band were special guests for an interview and some acoustic music at our local, BBC radio station (Radio Berkshire) on its Saturday evening rock show. Anyone living nearby was invited down to reception to meet the guys and chat with them. Living only a couple of miles from the studio, I gathered up my singles with the posters and headed down to meet the guys. They proved to be funny, very down to earth, bantering South Londoners and I got my posters signed by all three, but even better than that they had some signed vinyl copies of the still, as yet unreleased debut album, BACK STREET SYMPHONY to give away. I managed to 'blag' a copy, but duly bought the CD too on the day of release. Listening to this album, Thunder took me back to the great days of 70s British blues hard rock and reminded me of why I fell in love with Classic Rock in the first place. To this day, although Thunder have released many fine albums in a similar vein and I've seen the band live on numerous occasions, IMHO, Back Street Symphony remains their crowning glory.

Even though Pacific Gas And Electric recorded 5 studio albums and 1 live album they were known for one song their only hit Are You Ready. Released on their 3rd album titled Are You Ready. It came out in 1970 on Columbia. First heard this song on one of our classic rock stations in the mid 70s. Then i found a place that sold mostly singles and i bought it. Great tune. Never bought the album but i found the cd years later. It was the first time i heard the whole thing. It was a fine mix of rock blues soul and a little gospel. Charlie Allen was lead singer. Glenn Schwartz guitar. Tom Marshall guitar. Brent Block bass Frank Cook ex Canned Heat member on drums and to give the gospel touch the Blackberries on backing vocals. Besides their hit the best songs are Hawg For You. Staggolee. The Blackberry. Elvira and Screamin. They never had another top 20 hit. Are You Ready was their only song that broke the top 20.

Ha, nice description- chaotic. I agree. But a good album, and story. Today, I’m remembering the first time I heard the opening notes of 1974’s Crime of the Century by Supertramp. Went to hangout with a male coworker on a Saturday evening, at his mansion in a ritzy Chicago suburb, parents out of town, what was I thinking? Guess I wanted to party and see how the other half lived. After suffering thru various Black Sabbath Lp’s, I heard the coolest harmonica, and as “School” played, I became an instant fan. Yeah, Bloody Well Right was a top 40 hit, but damn, the rest of that album! Coda: the guy was actually a perfect gentleman, and we remained friends to this day.

Day 28 This is a little different today. Here’s a song on one of my 45s that I still have and I love this song. It’s a strange song but it’s interesting. It’s a song that came out on this 45 rpm in 1969. I love side A the name of the song is “In The Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)”. Side B is called “Little Kids”. Zager and Evans do have an album released in 1969 by the name of this song. This song “In The Year 2525 ( Exordium and Terminus)” is a one hit wonder. This song reached the billboards Hot 100 chart for 6 weeks here in the USA. It peaked at #1 on the UK singles chart for three weeks. RCA picked up this song an published it. This song is considered one of the most famous songs of the one hit wonders. This song is telling people about the dangers of technology. The song “In The Year 2525(Exordium and Terminus)” is a creepy song if you listen carefully to the lyrics of this song. Side B I’ve listened to before but I don’t listen too it that often as I do side A. The songs on their albums were written by Rick Evans and preformed by Denny Zager and Rick Evans. I bought this 45 rpm years ago while I was with my cousin at the record store. We had a great time listening to it.

Hi everyone, and back we go again to the early 80s for today's story, or at least today's tale of discovery.. Prog rock was something I still knew very little about, having stuck largely to classic/ heavy rock and metal, with the occasional dabble into pomp, southern rock and early AOR. Of course, I was aware of the names - Genesis, Yes, Floyd et al - but my early dips of the toe into the water had left me unimpressed: I remember getting Relayer out of the library and returning it only half heard... But then I heard a new single by a young British band that I'd read were prog rock, but it was a short, poppy rocker with a catchy guitar and keyboard riff, odd lyrics sung in a slightly unusual timbre and a really catchy chorus. Loving it, I toddled off to 1 Up Records in Aberdeen and bought myself the 12" vinyl, noting a 3rd track not on the 7" and headed home. Side A went by in a flash, although the 2nd song wasn't quite as strong as the main track, but still quirky and enjoyable. Right, I thought, let's flip this sucker over... After a couple of minutes, I began to think the song was taking a while to get going, so I glanced at the sleeve, clocked the timings, then blinked, rubbed my eyes and looked again. I hadn't imagined it. Side B, 17 minutes and 16 seconds... Excuse me? OK, maybe they are prog then... In the end, the 17 minutes song about a creature from English folklore actually flew by and I was utterly sold. Of course, as some of you will have worked out by now, this was the debut 12" single by... MARILLION "Market Square Heroes", with the epic "Grendel" on the B Side. I was just about first in the queue when their debut album, "Script For A Jester's Tear" dropped and was in the front row of the stalls at my local theatre when they toured the album, the owner of that quirky voice, Fish, even going so far as to use me fir bayonet practice during anti-war classic Forgotten Sons. So, Marillion were my "in" to prog rock and, although I do now, and have for some time, "get" a lot of the 70s originals (love early Genesis, 70s Floyd and Tull), my prog heroes ate those if the 80s neo-prog movement in the UK, Marillion at the forefront, but also the likes of iQ, Pendragon, Arena, Twelfth Night and, of course, my own local Aberdeen heroes, the mighty Pallas. So for me, of all the bands in the prog matrix, the Neo bands are the chosen ones...

Pick #28: Kind of cheating since I listened to both albums back to back so much, but I had spent one year in college at Coastal Carolina and admittedly was pretty miserable the whole year and felt pretty isolated due to how introverted I was. Two things that really helped me get through those difficult times were these two albums by The Beatles: White Album and Abbey Road. I wanna say I'd already kind of heard pieces of those albums before finishing high school but they both really hit me on an emotional level in that one year in college. If I had to choose the one I'm more likely to reach for, it's probably Abbey Road but both albums are masterpieces in my eyes. Hopefully the final three picks should be relatively interesting stories. #1: The Who's Tommy (1969) #2: RX Bandits' ...And the Battle Begun (2006) #3: Metallica's ...And Justice For All (1988) #4: Pink Floyd's The Wall (1979) #5: Daft Punk's Alive 2007 #6: Yes's Close to the Edge (1972) #7: Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974) #8: Arcade Fire's Funeral (2004) #9: Silverchair's Diorama (2002) #10: Green Day's American Idiot (2004) #11: The Killers' Hot Fuss (2004) #12: Death's Symbolic (1995) #13: Radiohead's Kid A (2000) #14: Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns (2010) #15: Muse's Origin of Symmetry (2001) #16: Tool's Lateralus (2001) #17: Opeth's Blackwater Park (2001) #18: Rush's Grace Under Pressure (1984) #19: Rainbow's Rising (1976) #20: Black Sabbath's Mob Rules (1981) #21: Kansas's Leftoverture (1976) #22: Pearl Jam's Ten (1991) #23: Chemical Brothers' Dig Your Own Hole (1997) #24: Talking Heads' Remain In Light (1980) #25A: Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988) #25B: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Nonagon Infinity (2016) #26: Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime (1988) #27: Faith No More's Angel Dust (1992) #28A: The Beatles' White Album (1968) #28B: The Beatles' Abbey Road (1969)

The very next album I got at October 1976, had been just released, and it’s from a band which was highly underrated in their homeland of UK. It’s about BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST, “Octoberon”. There was a radio station called “Deutschlandfunk”, and they had a weekly 90 minutes program named “Schlager-Derby” each Wednesday. They always played 20 songs, partially German Schlager singles, but international singles as well. People were to vote their favourite song out of the 20, and in the week following the best 13 were played on the countdown to # 1. The 7 remaining ones were out, and 7 new “candidates” were introduced for the next voting. This always went on in a 3 weeks rhythm, while at week 4 they had a 90 minute program special, where they introduced new album releases, and it was not about singles in the first place back then. At this special they often used to play the deep cuts out of new LPs. Sometimes they also interviewed band musicians and singers in the studio, when they had been available. And at this time of early October, they played the 7 minute piece “Suicide” from the Octoberon album. It sounded quite proggy, and I was so impressed by the song, that I immediately ordered the album the next day. I was far from disappointed, when I first heard the songs. Side 1 had three longer songs, which all sounded epic: “The World Goes On” is a real good romantic ballad with a prog touch, while “May Day” and “Ra” following, are prog at its best. Side 2 opened with the catchy single “Rock And Roll Star”, followed by the more rough sounding “Polk Street Rag”. “Believe In Me” is a love song, maybe the weakest piece on the album, which closes with the already mentioned epic prog song “Suicide”. Octoberon has already been the 7th album of Barclay James Harvest, who started in 1970. Their original line-up with John Lees (g, voc), Les Holroyd (b, voc), Mel Pritchard (dr) and John “Wooly” Wolstenholme (keys, mellotron, voc) remained stable until 1978, when the latter decided to leave the band. Similar to Genesis (after Steve Hackett left), the remaining members decided to continue as a 3 man band, and the difference in their sound was largely noticeable. There was no use of the mellotron anymore, which had been a real significant element to their sound. Their songs became more average and went straight towards more mainstream. (Of course we know, it has been a similar development with Genesis and Yes in the early 80s.) After Octoberon, I got the band’s album precursor “Time Honoured Ghosts” from 1975, which is of the same strength and beauty (both covers are beautiful, too), the album successors “Gone To Earth” (1977) and “XII” (1978) and their two live double albums from 1974 and 1978, all released with the classic 4 man line-up. Up from 1977/78, they became a very popular band, especially here in Germany with a bunch of Top 3 albums, and sold out stadiums, playing in East-Berlin in front of 170K people in the year 1987, two years before the Berlin wall fell. - My story about my time at the economy school continues, and this time I talk about the Fridays, when school ended at 12:15 PM, 45 minutes earlier than at the other week days from Tuesday to Thursday. There was some time left for me until the bus took off at 1:10 PM, and it had been similar for my seatmate Michael, who needed to get back home in another direction by train. We went to the railway station, which only took us 5-6 minutes. There had been an inn inside the station house, and we always went there, having a drink and having some nice chatting. There also has been a kiosk inside, where I often used to look after new music journals. At the time around 1 PM we both went to our destination places, ready to leave for home. I also did use my free monthly bus ticket quite often at Saturdays, just to look around in various shops, sometimes buying clothes at modest prices, looking for comic strip albums of which I was a big fan, and visiting vinyl shops of course, where I quite often found some awesome albums sometimes. And, not to forget, there has been that fast food cabin at the town center, where I always got my Currywurst along with a bread roll at the modest price of 1,50 DM. Opeth - Still Life (1999) In 1999, the last metal show I'd seen was Bolt Thrower back in around '92. After being fairly deep into death and technical thrash metal in '89-91, I kind of lost track of the scene for quite a while. I liked some Entombed, and my friend Ben played some Neurosis in the car when we were going to a party -- guys in the band came to his shop whenever they were in town to get tattoos. That lead me to do some digging and discover a band on my own that I'd love, and that exploration lead to the discovery of Opeth with My Arms, Your Hearse (1998), which was magnificent, exactly what I was looking for, a mix of savage but well produced death metal mixed with prog and even hints of folk. I snapped Still Life up right away, and it was my favorite metal album so far. I didn't think they would top it, but they sure as hell did, with Blackwater Park (2001) and Ghost Reveries (2005). I'd eventually see them live several times and they never disappointed. They were my gateway to seeing more metal bands live, like Mastodon, Gojira, Enslaved and a new batch of heavy metal bands starting with The Lord Weird Slough Feg. Over a quarter century later, Opeth remain an all-time favorite.

Day 28.....I am going back to early August 1980 in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was a sunny Satruday and I was with my girlfriend. We drove through Stanley Park and then went up to Granville Street to one of the big record shops. While browsing through the record racks, I was hearing something playing on the store speakers that sounded very familiar - that voice!?! Very Ian Gillanesque....turns out it was indeed Ian Gillan singing on what sounded to be a very epic style track....but I had never heard it before. I asked the guy at the counter who it was and he pointed at an album display of "Gillan - Glory Road".....with a handwritten tag taped onto it saying "New Gillan" and "Great guitar". The track I was hearing was "On the Rocks". IMMEDIATE purchase!!! Out the door, into the car and headed back home to listen to the entire album with my girlfriend. Spectacular record. Bernie Torme tearing it up on guitar along with Gillan's voice still crystal clear and full range. I just listened to it again this morning as I was preparing to write this little tale. Takes me right back to that exact day. Perfect.

Great pick so many if they don't like jazz or jazz fusion just don't get into bitches Brew or any of that stuff unfortunately LOL. Day 28 Boston Debut Christmas 1976. I remember getting this album very well. Because of More than A feeling. Play it on the family turntable many many times through the following years till I got my own stereo. I was too young to understand all the songs but I knew I liked everything that was on there. Especially side one. Of course don't look back with follow his people knew I was a Boston fan even at a young age. It wasn't until around 1986 when I got third stage that I forgot about those other two albums for a little bit the deeper cuts. Those three albums are still great favorites to this day But now you look at the debut and realize how cool not only the artwork is where the spaceships are guitars But the fact that every single song is made FM radio play to this day still on air lists. It's like a greatest Hits on to itself without calling it a greatest hits

My Day 28 is Fallen, the debut studio album by American rock band Evanescence, released on March 4, 2003, by Wind-up Records. Co-founders singer and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody began writing and recording songs as Evanescence in 1994, and after releasing two EPs and a demo CD, they signed to Wind-up in January 2001. Several of the songs from their earlier independent releases feature on Fallen. The album was recorded between August and December 2002 in several studios in California. It is Evanescence's only studio album to feature Moody, who left the band in October 2003. The album yielded four singles: "Bring Me to Life", "Going Under", "My Immortal", and "Everybody's Fool". "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal" charted in the top 10 of over 10 countries, including the US, UK and Australia. Fallen is Evanescence's most commercially successful album to date, selling 10 million copies in the US and over 17 million copies worldwide, making it the sixth best-selling album of the 21st century. It debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 with 141,000 copies sold in its first week, peaking at number three in June 2003. The album topped the charts in more than 10 countries. It was certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2022. Fallen received generally positive reviews from music critics. Evanescence received five nominations at the 46th Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, Best Hard Rock Performance, and Best New Artist, winning the latter two.[5] At the following year's ceremony, "My Immortal" was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Evanescence embarked on their first headlining concert tour, the Fallen Tour, in 2003. A live album and concert DVD with behind the scenes footage was released in 2004, titled Anywhere but Home. You couldn't get around "Bring me to life" when you were alive at that time and watching any music channel on TV. Back then I listened a lot to bands like Lacuna Coil, After Forever, Within Temptation had just gotten big. Evanescence seemed to be the right band at the right time. I bought the album not too long ago for about 10 dollars at fyeso, just out of nostalgia, but I never really got further than liking a few songs after this and the next album they would release titled the open door. Iggy Pop ... Instinct There was a chain record store down the road from me, CD Warehouse. I think it was a regional chain here in Ohio. Every record store of worth has to have a unique specialty. This particular stores specialty was guitar shredders from Shrapnel Records and its related labels owned by Mike Varney. That was OK by me. The one purchase I made from there was Iggy Pop's Instinct album co-written by Steve Jones, guitarist of the Sex Pistols. Those riffs are to die for. I bought some other nineties Iggy Pop albums from that store. Though the bulk of my Iggy Pop shelf is from another store I have written about before during this month. The changes brought by the internet at the turn of our century closed that store like many others. They tried to hang on by selling porn, which I'm sure teed off the suburb they were located in. Just a damn shame.

July, 2018 & December, 2018 Judas Priest - Painkiller (CD) & British Steel (CD) Again, I was first introduced to metal through VH1 Classic and That Metal Show. In January of 2010, I was 14 years old in 8th grade at the time and I remember I watched the Behind the Music Remastered episode of Judas Priest. I thought the band was pretty interesting. I think my first song by them was the ‘Breaking the Law’ music video. 8 years later, I’m into Sabbath, Purple and Dio, I had just finished my first semester at George Mason. I thought to myself “I should probably buy me some Judas Priest because they’ve great stuff.” So my stepdad took me to McKay’s Used Books and I went to the Metal section and I grabbed ‘Painkiller’ on CD. I remember head banging throughout my first listen. Around Christmas time later that year, I wanted to buy their other stuff so I went to FYE in Fair Oaks Mall. That’s where I found ‘British Steel’ on CD. Same story as yesterday, it’s the same time I bought Motörhead’s ‘1916’. ‘British Steel’ has become my Priest album of all time.

Hi Pete & everyone. Dave here. As well as your excellent channel, a good source of information about my first love of prog has been the monthly Prog magazine. And for years I've discovered new music from their cover mounted CD (more recently a downstream). Scanning though one in 2013 I came across this 8 minute mini rock opera - a fantastic blend of melodic rock, tricky tempo changes, musical theatre and blissful vocal harmonies. The track was Mega Moon from the album HIMLABACKEN (Heaven Hill) VOL 1 by the Swedish band MOON SAFARI. Soon after, I saw them live at a pub venue in London, and bought the album there. I have been a huge fan ever since.

Agreed Pete....Miles' 70's Electric period! Love Bitches Brew! His best, for me, is his live heavy funk infused Pangaea album....all the elements came together fully on that one!

28. Mötley Crüe - Shout At The Devil This is an album that my dad played to death way back when. I loved all the songs and so I ended up borrowing the tape and listening to it constantly. This was way back in 1987 and, as far as I know, the first full Crüe I ever heard from start to finish. I was a little kid and always loved their videos on MTV. The band’s music hasn’t had a lot of staying power with me, but this is an album that I still love and I’ll never get tired of it.

Pete - I had the same - "This isn't my thing but there's something here" reaction to Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior. When I talked to my son about Jazz and Miles Davis I said he's one of the most important Jazz musicans - almost everyone who's anyone played with Miles or played with with someone wo played with hi.

1st time I heard McLaughlin was in Concert during the early 1970s. Loved it. Bought his album with Carlos Santana. Different but awesome!

With jazz/fusion etc always seemed to me that it was 5 musicians all playing a different song at the same time lol each musician on their own are great but always seemed like all over the place so never got into it too much,I had a couple of zappa albums a few years ago and all I could think of was it sounded like the background music from the old starsky & hutch episodes lol ill probably never get jazz on the whole or blues but appreciate those musicians though 👍

Shakti with John McLaughlin is a great album. We really got into this one in college, along with Miles and Mahavishnu.

I totally understand about the girlfriend not getting it. I had a girlfriend in the late 80s who asked me to make an Aerosmith tape for her. I of course put all the 70s rockers and a couple of ballads like Seasons Of Wither and Kings&Queens. The next day she asked me who was on the tape & I said its the good Aerosmith. She wanted shit like Love In A Elevator, Dude Looks Like A Lady, etc.

I guess I'm one of the rare rock fans who doesn't consider Miles' 'electric period' his best; I prefer the 1950s and the stuff he did with Gil Evans; more on that tomorrow actually! I do like Bitches Brew, but I think it's a kind of 'flawed masterpiece'; there are certainly some boring moments on it in my opinion. "Spanish Key" is awesome, though.
