I'm in Florida and several adjusters went on the record to our insurance commission with proof that their reports were altered at the desk of the insurance company. They actually changed information on SIGNED inspection reports, which is forgery!! Our insurance commissioners told them their testimony time was up, bring it privately to their offices for further discussion. What changed? Nothing....except our rates jumped AGAIN, flood insurance requirements were extended to more homeowners, and insurance companies were given the green light to pro-rate damage claims based on the age of the roof or the structure. We also lost our right to force insurance companies to pay the legal expenses when they lose in court for denying la legitimate damage claim. Helene is going to be a nightmare for Floridians! I'm sure there will be many many thousands who will never recover their property or get a fair settlement. Insurance companies are in the business of making money and finding ways to deny claims. Not actually insuring customers. It's gotten to a point where you're literally paying premiums to be without coverage.
@uniquelybeautifuljourney72613 ай бұрын
This needs to expose so people fight back we shouldn’t be mandated pay insurance if the insurance companies are crooks they are in it for themselves. I would suggest people pay off your home ASAP and save your money people will save more to rebuild their own home in 10 years than what they pay the insurance companies will ever approve and pay to you when you get a home damage
@debridings18892 ай бұрын
We are mortgage free and dropped our homeowners years ago. We put that money each year, faithfully into a box, not bank, since there is no incentive to do so. If anything happens to our home, we'll pay for it and rebuild it ourselves. We paid premiums for over 35 years...hefty premiums for enough insurance to rebuild if anything happened. We needed a new roof at one time, it was metal...and started leaking in a spot or two. We called them to come see about it and they told us, after inspecting it that it had "aged out" and was not weather related, so the insurance would not pay to repair or replace it. We were done with them at that point and never looked back. We never actually filed a single claim, yet every year, the policy was reduced in value and the cost rose. We figured we were paying for all the other claims being made because we were not a risk. We're done with that now and can sleep well at night. No longer are we frustrated by insurance scamming companies. Maybe this route is not for everyone, but it works for us.

I dropped my insurance as well. I am self-insured. All of those premiums I don’t pay I am saving to fund any damage I might have in the future.

The insurance company would throw an engineer under the bus if they could get one to falsify damage claims. And they would fire him if he didn't. They hold the engineer hostage! The only person that doesn't get in trouble or go to jail? The CEO of the insurance company! The government doesn't care because they don't want that company to shut down and all those people lose their jobs. They don't want their stock prices to sink. When in reality the CEO needs to go to prison for 20 years.

Insurance is definitely a scam! But we should also look into these utility companies that benefit, as well. I live in Houston and Hurricane Beryl did a number on this entire area. I got the standard $750 from FEMA, but the electric company refused to give me any adjustments on my following bill. In fact, my next bill was $748, so they got that FEMA money right back! No accountability, no prorated adjustments for the 6 days I was without power! Something has got to change!

We lost our home in Crystal River Florida in hurricane hermine in 2016. After fighting with FEMA for 18 months we settled for about $96000 on our home which was a total loss. We received about $80000 in contents which was the max for the policy. We had at least double that in contents. This was during Obama and it was clear that the underwriter was instructed to give as little as possible. We ended up bulldozing the house and selling the lot. A very unhappy and clearly -reengineered outcome for the government insurance. Caveat emptor. Middle finger to the government and their minions.

I read that the National Flood Program is nearly broke, with $20 billion in debt. The new FEMA head said they can’t do much because there isn’t enough money to take insurance companies to court, and the insurers know this. Flood insurance premiums often exceed $2,000 a year, but a single claim over $250,000 can wipe out years of revenue. If a company faces multiple claims, it could go bankrupt. Many insurance carriers don’t seem financially stable, and that’s why this is happening.
