The most interesting part of Glenn Barhyte’s story was it gave a fully developed, tragic, and three dimensional story for Brian Douglass, the Batman wannabe who wore hockey pads that the Joker killed on camera and left hanging on a noose at the mayor’s window. Basically he was a sad lonely desk clerk/IT worker for the City of Gotham who was a total Batman fanboy without a single friend. Officer Barhyte took pity on and befriended him. He was a moderator for a Batman enthusiast website full of authentic drama, memeing, and trolling that we've all seen online. On it people shared theories on who Batman is, debated whether Harvey Dent would win, and such. Eventually of course some of them got the crazy idea to meet IRL to fight crime themselves as Batman’s unofficial helpers. Brian paid attention to how Batman acted and knew that he wouldn’t approve of using guns and lethal force despite the misgiving of the other Batman fans. But after Glenn was murdered, Brian and the other "Citizens For Batman" decided to break their one rule on the night they attacked the meeting between the Chechen and the Scarecrow. Brian Douglass had maybe less than a minute of screentime in The Dark Knight, yet he was a fully realized human being who was the tragic hero of his own story.

@boodaman75135 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is really cool, thanks for sharing. I like when the people who die in stories are realized as fully fledged human beings because it reminds us of the gravity of the situation, like a real live person just died (in a movie). They occupied the world for years until they died. When there is all this exposition you can find on this character that is so personal it makes what the joker did to him carry a lot more weight. Obviously they aren't going to use a bunch of screentime giving a minor character a bunch of backstory, so that's a really cool way to so it!
@rhetiq99895 жыл бұрын
It’s even more sad now after knowing his backstory we then look back at what happened in the movie, where he was dismissed by his own idol and then eventually left to to die in the Joker’s hands

I always obsess over the lore behind the work; not only in video games (where it is most commonly found), but also in movies, television series and even music. Detective Loki's past in Prisoners, the events after the end in Whiplash, the hidden story in Tyler, the Creator's album Igor. I love how there are authors with such attention to detail as to hide stories, beyond what we see or hear.
@gaminggladiator065 жыл бұрын
How messed up do you think someone would be after seeing the phone number in the sky, not aware of the ARG, then getting a message from a hostage that gets killed, believing this to be real and becoming a “witness” to the crime?

This kind on audience engagement is on a level I've never seen before or since. Where's part 2?!??!?! Do I have to find a hidden website, guess a password, email someone my phone number, wait for a call, listen to a riddle that's left in my voicemail, figure out that the answer to the riddle references a phongraph repair manual from the 1920's, find the book at a small hole-in-the-wall bookshop 200 miles from where I live, find the author's name and a P.O. box number located in a small Nebraska town, go to that post office, tell employee that I am that author's grandchild and that I need to access the P.O. box, employee says someone left a key for the grandchild to pick up so am given the key, find an old dusty phonograph record and pieces of a phonograph player, have to look at the manual retrieved earlier to piece together the phonograph, play the record, hear a series of short and long buzzes, realize it's Morse code, translate it, realize it's coordinates to a rural part of Scotland, travel to the coordinates, find mummified remains (presumably of the author) preserved in formaldehyde and propped up to appear to be looking at the sky, look at the sky and see an airplane writing the URL of the second video??? 😲
