It's 1999, I'm 17 and living for my two last years of Bac (Abitur) in Berlin. I'm in an internet cafe, and I hear that sound. I ask the tenant what music it is, but it was on the radio and he didn't know. Fastforward like 10 years, and despite my best efforts, and growing knowledge of electronic music, I still can't find that sound I loved at the time. Then I talk about that experience with an older collegue, who knows his stuff in early electronic music. I start singing the melody, and instantly he tells me it's Right In The Night by Jam & Spoon. And I'm like "what, but I know that band, how did I missed this...". I love how your channel is bringing back so much memories, thanx a lot :)

What set J&S apart from others is that you didn't have to be into trance to like them. The production, the groove, the depth etc were so well crafted that the genre didn't matter. A lot of their tracks are huge classics and it's well deserved.

I only discovered this song about 2 years ago during quarantine, and was instantly hooked. Absolutely love this song and still listen to it regularly. What shocked me the most was the fact that it was released in 1993! The sound quality is amazing, and I would have guessed it was from 1998/99. Excellent track.

One of my favorite J & S tunes of all-time. I first heard it in 1995 or 1996 at a store in the U.S. where I worked when a sales guy who also worked there in the Electronics department played a cassette recording of the tune to show the quality of the stereos to the customers. I have had the pleasure to meet Plavka in the U.S. and hear her perform this classic, live. Great interview. It's always fun to hear Rolf's stories and experiences. Thank you, Twaan for this interview.

I’m not a producer myself so I don’t have a lot of knowledge about the more technical part of the production, so that’s why I never ask too much in depth questions about the producing part, simply because I don’t think I should ask about things I don’t have the knowledge about 😉 I started this series because I’m interested in hearing the stories behind the tracks. Great track.Can we have some more tech details what synths and presets were used in productions of artists interviewed?
@muzikxpress
@muzikxpress 4 ай бұрын
Well, I'm not a producer myself so my technical knowledge about equipment etc etc is very, very limited. There's other channels that really go in-depth about the actual production and all the technical details. However, I always try to ask which equipment was used and sometimes producers share a bit more as well. But I don't really feel like going more in-depth about it, simply because I don't have enough knowledge about it. Plus I started Muzikxpress, because I'm trying to find out about the stories behind the tracks I grew up with. I think 80 or 90% of the viewers aren't producers, so I don't want to make it all too technical either. I'll leave that up to the channels who focus on the actual production of tracks, with my very basic knowledge I just don't really think I should ask questions about things I don't know anything about. I'm not comfortable with that ;-) Hope you understand! :)

Thanks for the reply.I did grow up in 80 and 90.I am in fact I am a producer living in UK considering to do some remixes of old tracks.It would be beneficial for some wanting to do remixes based on old sound machines. Well, there's always like 5 or 6 questions that are (almost) the same..... I mean, we want to know the story behind the track right? ;-) But the answers are always different. And not sure if you noticed it, but there are always specific questions that are focussed on the track I'm talking about or about the artist itself. I do spend a lot of time on research and preparing these interviews. But feel free to send me a bunch of suggestions for questions I can ask for future interviews. Not anytime soon, but for sure on my wish list. I don’t have time or a travel budget at the moment for trips abroad. My schedule is completely full for the next 4 - 5 months. Hopefully one day, but I first need to save for new trips.
