Band on the Run was Paul Mccartey’s best selling post Beatles album and was the turning point for his band Wings as his time, the record was well received by both the fans and critics alike.
This is the story of the how a classic album was recorded against all odds after the band fell apart days before recording began. I also delve into how it was recorded, looking at the studio and equipment used.

What I never could quite wrap my head around is why the original demos recorded with wings as a 5 piece band in England isn't around. Surely they didn't record the demos on cassettes? Those had to be copies that they made for Paul to bring with him to Lagos, even Paul's home demos for his first album were recorded on quarter inch studio tape. It's a real mystery.

They did use cassettes as I have one here. (Not the Band on the run demos of course) but they did record rehearsals and sketches to cassette.

Still not convinced. the story I heard is that there was 3 quarter masters of the demos and copies were made for Paul to take back to Lagos and somehow the masters disappeared.@@mixingmasteringonline

I think maybe the whole story and chain of events is lost in time and anecdotes now. Maybe something will show up one day though.

I sincerely appreciate the effort (yes, clever), but I found the use of AI images distracting and unnecessary (It's still uncanny valley, mate); To each his own, I prefer the well-chosen still images and the video performance, which sets the video apart. Best is the use of the music (It sounds like sneaking into the studio to capture a live session on bootleg cassette. Nice one). 👍 Overall, enjoyed the video. Great video! I always felt that there were a couple of significant edits on the song Band On The Run. Almost like a tape edit between two recordings. One at 2min 6secs when the new section comes and and maybe a further cut and something sounds like it’s going on at 2mins 22secs when the vocals come in. I can’t quite put my finger on it but somethings going on. It’s a great sounding recording as well as a fantastic song. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

That ‘din’ is an unheard Wings rehearsal tape I got from Denny Laine’s old manager.
