Arminius was one of Rome's greatest enemies and had the courage to fight against the Roman Empire while it was strong and consolidated. Although his battles didn't decide the war, Arminius achieved the remarkable feat of never being defeated by the Romans. For this reason, he is seen as a hero by the Germanic people and a traitor by the Romans. In this video, we will explore the full story of this prince of the Cherusci who challenged the power of Rome.

The fight in Teutoburger forest was/is a very important part in Germany‘s history. I was impressed, how Arminius got many Germanic tribes to fight with him. The tribes always fought each other, but were united against the Romans. We learned many things about the Varus battle in school. Sadly it was misused from the Nazis to wallow in false nostalgia.

A traitor dies from betrayal. How ironic

Arminius’ story is a fascinating case of defiance, resilience, and the complexity of power. His unyielding resistance against the Roman Empire-despite their military superiority-speaks to the depth of his strategy and vision. What strikes me most is how his victory was as much about cultural pride and autonomy as it was about military success. The Germanic tribes, though often splintered, were driven by something Rome couldn’t conquer: identity. Yet, his ultimate demise at the hands of his own people reveals how fragile that unity was. Isn’t it ironic that Rome ultimately won by simply outlasting him?

Arminius was a traitor to his own people bc he was a Roman citizen from the nobility. Bc he couldn’t get emperor of Rome due to his Germanic origin, his ambition was to become emperor of the Germanic tribes. He caused many troubles. Finally he was defeated in all revenge battles by the Roman general Germanicus. His own tribe and family assassinated him due to his selfish ambitions.

Invents generic "messing about" slights. Gets angry about them. Celebrates the traitor because of it. Look, kid... regardless of your obtuse and severely anachronistic nationalism... Rome went there in peace and with offers of alliance and trying to do right by the region. The German tribes were the ones repeatedly attacking Rome. The vile traitor wanted power from either side, and he didn't care who would give it to him. That's all there is. Vile traitors leading cowardly surprise attacks in times of peace, and being massacred for it. Go back to celebrating mediocrity, now. 😂
