I just saw Cinderella at the SF Ballet last night - a blissful experience of beauty.

I've now watched both Ashton's Cinderella and Wheeldon's and I can safely say that Christopher Wheeldon's Cinderella is the better one, because its more about character than Ashton's one was. Now I watched Christopher Wheeldon's one before watching Ashton's and while watching the beginning of Ashton's which has the stepsisters and Cinderella out the door in 15-20 minutes or less, I kept asking myself "Who are these people?" and "Why would Cinderella marry a Prince who we haven't seen until the first quarter of Act 2 is over?" I think Wheeldon and Broadway playwright Craig Lucas did a good job of expanding Act 1 and the rest of the ballet to show us why we should we care about the story's most sympathetic characters
