For sure. Because unlike every other Sith Lord, Nihilus is basically a force of nature and even if, say, Yoda and Palpatine are more powerful than him, the only one who can face him is the Exile because of their "wound in the Force" nature. Everybody else would get drained.

It won't and it can't be. I love the expanded universe, but it can't be canonized. The thing is, in canon (except for in the animated series, maybe) the Force is... weak. Don't get me wrong, canon isn't bad (though they're really fucking it up). The thing is, in canon, the Force is just... weak. Sidious could use Force Storms in E.U.. In canon, his strongest ability is probably Force Lightning... You see what I'm getting at? And also, they'd probably fuck Nihilus up and right after all those brainless kids and retarded fake fans will be complaining to us how "Nihilus wasn't this, Nihilus wasn't that, Nihilus wasn't that strong...". Just pointing it out. They'd need to create an all new canon and the "fans" won't like it because "Force drain didn't exist, Luke didn't become so strong, he died, etc..", making the producers forced to cut the project. I feel like he's a very tragic character. Extremely dangerous, but not necessarily evil. More... lost. He was destroyed not by his scheming or desire for power, but by his own despair, which in turn was brought about by forces beyond his control. He may have had some kind of weakness of character that made him incapable of dealing with pain and loss, but still - he was offered no opportunity to feel hope or redeem himself, no kindness and very little guidance. This kind of profound loneliness and despair is chilling to the bone.

Darth Nihilus is easily my most favourite Sith Lord. Essentially he is the Dark Side Sith equivalent of the Light Side female Jedi Exile called Meetra Surik, as they were both "wounds in the force" created from the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator on Malachor V. Because they were both wounds in the force, Surik was probably the only one who could outlast his ability to force drain, thereby making him vulnerable to her considering he was average at best as a duelist. My biggest question about Nihilus is during the game it is referenced that he cares nothing for the Sith and their teachings, yet he acts as the Sith influence behind General Vaklu's attempted coup of Queen Talia on Onderon? His motive is far more primitive than that of say Darth Sidious, who manipulated the Republic behind the scenes in order to attain power and destroy the Jedi Order, but Nihilus' character is set up to be more primitive in nature with the desire to drain force sensitive individuals to sate his "hunger", so it doesn't make a lot of sense that he would meddle in political affairs on a planet. I suppose the only thing that would explain Nihilus' involvement in the Onderon Civil War would be that he had some of his followers perform a ritual in an ancient Sith Tomb on Dxun, the nearby moon of Onderon, in order to feed on the dark side energy available, so the siding with Vaklu was probably nothing more than a ruse to gain access to the tomb on the moon. At the end of the day he is still a terrific looking and completely badass villain and it is a crying shame that he and the other characters from the Old Republic era are not part of Disney's canon.

The thing about Nihlous is that he was virtually unstoppable. He would, as his name implies, utterly annihilate the majority of any other Sith or Jedi: his powers were so incredible. If not for Meetra Surik, the ONLY person who could stop him, he would possibly still be ruling the known galaxy.

I do not understand why the Jedi counsel specifically Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi say multiple times that once a Sith Dies there is nothing, he does not exist in the physical plane of existence and only a Jedi can transcend the physical world and return as a force ghost. Almost every Sith Lord binds themselves to something whether it be a mask or something that they saw as great importance or cloned bodies. I don’t see (or completely understand) the differences between becoming a Force Ghost if your a Jedi OR if you preform essence transfer if you’re a Sith. If anyone could explain that it would clear up a lot of confusion over what Yoda and Obi Won talk about in the later prequels.

The idea is roughly that the Jedi embody the force in its natural state, so when they die they can merge into it as themselves. Sith however are perversions or distortions of the force, they are not the force as it naturally exists or "wants" to be. As they die they cannot merge with the force as their nature is antithetical to its nature, they cannot exist as a part of the natural force. Darth Nihilus goes even further than normal Sith, he is not a distortion of the force, he is a force void/wound in the force. He has become basically the force's opposite. The force binds together all life, Darth Nihilus tears it all apart by his very presence. Darth Nihilus is also not really a Sith, he is only called that because no other word exist for what he is. The distorted force is called the dark side, and Darth Nihilus distorts the force so much that he breaks it a part, on the fringes of his existence is the "dark side" and that is linked to the Sith, so he is called Sith.

I first discovered Nihilus when I was a kid, through the 2005 'Ultimate Visual Guide' book. That was also how I discovered Kotor. Anyway, I was instantly fascinated by Nihilus, his mask looked so scary and awesome at the same time, and it was cool to know that there were other Darth's in Star Wars other than Maul, Tyranus and Vader. When I finally got KOTOR II some time in early 2008, and I saw that first scene where Nihilus is talking to Visas, his voice chilled me to the bone. Nihilus carries such a dark, ominous presence, he's the Grim Reaper of Star Wars.

Classic lich rules in DnD among other things require liches to continually feed on souls to maintain their phylactery (physical object that binds them to the material world). They don't and they fade away or just essentially degrade into that object until it's fed. Same as Nihilus.

Darth Nihilus is a GREAT example of how Power does NOT equal success. His power only sought to destroy everything. He was a prisoner of his power. He lived without actually enjoying the spoils of his work. He was a TRUE Abomination of/in The Force. Something that existed only to destroy all life and eventually destroy itself. He wasn't even Sith at that point....just a monster, since his was not to Rule or Champion the Sith, but instead pure annihilation. While Palpatine may not have had that raw power....Palpatine was NOT a slave to his own power. He mad sure to take great pleasure in life where and when he could. He furthered the power and agenda of the Sith themselves. He managed to overthrow the Galaxy with glorious applause at the start of his Dictatorship.

Darth Nihilus (after the Malachor 5 incident) was a very tragic entity. He suffered from a constant enormous hunger that could never be sated, instead being a walking manifestation of eternal hunger. He had no other goal or drive than to consume. He was both the weakest and one of the strongest Sith lords in the history of Sith lords.

He's not cannon, and technically never was. He's my favorite Sith Lord though. Disney will still recognize characters from legends, however. Nihilus is actually one of the most powerful characters in the mobile game, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
