The story teller is very apt in her description of the end of the Ogiso dynasty and the beginning of the Eweka dynasty. It’s well known in the Benin kingdom as the Benin empire had a way of documenting their history. If you read the actual story of Oduduwa from Yoruba perspective, He actually met people there and was not the first man. But there was no system of organization or leadership before Oduduwa.

Benin don't have any special way of documenting history different from any other kingdom. Don't be fooled! Oral history and use of art has always been the way including at ife. Before the 1970s, ekaladerhan died in ughoton. Because of politic the ekaladerhan story wad connected to oduduwa to mask the yoruba-ife origin of oranmiyan the father of the first crowned Oba of benin Eweka I mean even the use of the word dynasty betrays the intentions here. A new dynasty is a completely different ruling lineage so trying to connect two dynasties doesn't make any sense if it's the same lineage

Oduduwa didn’t come to Ifẹ from some distant foreign land. Oke-Ọra is where he came from, a hilly settlement settlement East of the ife main bowl and still part of the larger ife itself. This fact has been long published more than 100 years before your 1970. For the indigenous tradition which makes it clear that our first parents [i.e. Oduduwa, et al] are autochthones of Ife (rather than migrant to Ife), see reference below: Richard & John Lander, “Journal of an Expedition to Explore the Course and Termination of the Niger,” Volume 1. Published 1832, Pages 180-181. Furthermore, Ade Obayemi also recalls this indigenous classical tradition in Ajayi’s & Crowder’s “History of West Africa”. He notes to the tiniest details as follows: “Oodua had his first home (“at least his first earthly one”) on the Oke Ora (Ora Hill) between Ile-Ife [the Ife bowl] and Ilesa.” A. Obayemi, “The Yoruba-Speaking Peoples to 1600” IN A. Ajayi & M. Crowder (Ed’s.) “History in West Africa, Vol. 1, London 1976, p. 210. The sky origin is only a merely a mythology and product of the edification of Oduduwa, the actual narrative states Oduduwa came from heaven (Orun) like all yorubas and into oke-ora where he grew up before moving to the main Ile-Ife communities. Ifẹ also have mythological narratives just as any ancient kingdom out there in the world. Alexander the Great is said to be the son of Zeus-Amon. He is even said to have two horns. Yet he is an actual historical personage. Even Bini indigenous narratives say that the Ogiso Igodo actually descended from the sky to Benin city. Some of such Bini sky descent narratives even applies to the 1st Benin Ọba. Yet they are real historical personages. It is called romanticization. It’s not only Europeans who have it for their historical personages. Ife has it too. Benin also have it. It doesn’t take away from the historicity of the actual persons. It only seeks to romanticize and sometimes deify them. The mecca hypothesis was as a result of sultan Bello of sokoto who gave middle eastern origins to a lot of ethnic groups around the river Niger. This was later attributed to oduduwa the patriarch of all yoruba kingdoms and ife kingdom and popularized in academia by Samuel Johnson as he wanted an exotic origin for oduduwa. Note that Egyptian/middle eastern theories of origin for people and/ kings was also popular in ancient times for many african kingdoms and peoples, Benin was not also left out as egharevba had though the benin came from Egypt to ife also. It's funny we never get to hear what Oduduwa means in indigenous benin language. The etymological derivation of the Yoruba name “Oduduwa” which means repository/Source of existence (Odu-da-uwa as the Odu(repository) da(to bring forth or create) uwa(existence) ) was collected in the 1800s by Ayinla Ogun (Samuel Johnson). This may be found in “The History of the Yorubas”, which was completed in 1897, and published in 1921 on page 143. For the Ekaladerhan/Izoduwa fiction. It was never known in benin until 1970s when a certain chief omoregie stated in a publication a certain Ekaladerhan went to ife and became known as Oranmiyan to the people of ife. Ekaladerhans story as written by a benin historian egharevba earlier in 1930s and also collected in the 1890s stated he died in ughoton where he settled and found a community after being chased by the benin people. It's funny that the same Ekaladerhan/Izoduwa who was said to be one and the same with oranmiyan in the first revisions later became Oduduwa, Oranmiyans Father or Grandfather but when Late Oba erediauwa was to write his book, he wrote that Ekaladerhan became Oduduwa no longer Oranmiyan, his son or grandson. It is very obvious that because of politics of superiority and uniqueness, what all have always known to be that Oranmiyan, a Prince from ILE-IFE founded benin which egharevba had earlier penned down and which a lot of europeans collected from benin itself was subverted and changed in the 1970s. Moreover you need to explain why in Ile-Ubinu, Ugie Oduduwa is celebrated and known not ugie Izoduwa or ugie Ekaladerhan. To Conclude, Traditions state his human existence (oduduwa) began at oke ora hill settlement in Iloromu quarters east of the main Ile-Ife settlements and part of the larger Ife. and then to ife where he wrestled power and united ife from a confederacy to one of the first kingdoms in the area and this system was later exported via many prince's and hunters when ife started expanding this includes the Oranmiyan who was sent to restore order and found the new Benin kingdom with the same monarchial system from ife into the area... The rest of the story is well known ile ubinu, eweka(owomika, yoruba words which Prince Eweka first spoke when he regained his speech) The many Yoruba words and influence in Benin meamhwile we see nothing of such vice versa in Ile-ife.

@@toyosioyejobi309Benin has one of the best oral history with proven historical facts, from the Idu to Igodomigo, Ubini and now Edo… Each of all this eras still have their history intact, the Ife people can barely give a clear explanation who Oduduwa is. In the 80s it was recorded that Ekaladerhan who was the exiled prince who was thought to have died, became a ruler in Ife and his son Omononya or Oranmiyan came to establish the Obaship in Benin. But you guys pick and choose whose history suits your narrative. You think Oranmiyan just came in without any record of war and became king in Benin if he wasn’t of Benin origin?😂 Even in the 1970s it was never fully established that Ekaladerhan died but it is true that few historians had that notion, that’s because some people thought Ekaladerhan died, like the Urhobo’s Benin left with that notion so was many other ethnic nationalities, because that was what was known at that time. Many people did not stay in Benin for 70yrs of chaos. So what sort of history do you think they would pass down? Also when Oranmiyan came he was the son of Oduduwa so his father’s name had (Ekaladerhan) had changed from Izoduwa then to Oduduwa. Also Benin ancient names is also known to have the duwa or Uwa at the end, from Izoduwa, Izegbuwa, Adesuwa, ewhenduwa, Olua, Izevbuwa, Nohuwa, Noruwa, Okpunwa, Omorogiuwa, Omozuwa, Osagioduwa, Osazuwa, Iduitua Yuwa etc. This are names that goes far back as the Idu era of Benin, which predates Ife by far. Perhaps you should google the word dynasty maybe you’d learn something new, the family line continued only the of the title Ogiso to Oba.

@@Roy_MOI'll admonish you to be careful before concluding on topics you Kowloon nothing about. The mecca narrative is actually the most recent and as a result of Samuel Johnson need for an exotic origin for yoruba and yoruba heroes, his source was sultan Bello a fulani royal who promoted middle East origins for ethnic groups in our region of Africa. The heaven or sky narrative is a mythological one and its one with the narrative you claim doesn't exist.. That oduduwa is from ife. The oral accounts claim oduduwa came from the spiritual realm and came into oke-ora East of the main ife bowl and part of the larger ife country where he was born and grew up. This fact has been in writing since the 1800s(Ask for it) . Hisotorians understand the heaven origin to be a myth like it is for all yoruba historical personages who were defied. Obatala also came from heaven likewise sango because this personalities were defied as orisas. Find solace elsewhere. Oduduwa from benin didn't exist anywhere before 1970s revisions

Hi, i understand and appreciate your neutrality. It shows how logical yorubas are. I want you to know that this narrative of benin is a recent one and deeper in politics, the issue is most people don't bother to find out the backstory of some of this narratives and take it to be an eternal debate, which its actually not. Then why will the oni of ife believe the story that oduduwa came from heaven. Oni sijuwade never believed the mecca or oke ora hill story of oduduwa. Moreover I will ask you was the word yoruba the truth name or the corrupted word of yariba. Why did the yoruba not stick with the word yariba. Moreover while did eko become Lagos. Why did we stick to the word eko as the original name. The story that oduduwa came from oke ora hill is a very recent version of oduduwa and it does not hold water in the house of oduduwa. Moreover go and look at the igala version of the origin of oduduwa and see that it dovetails to the Benin version as a prince from Benin. You must know that igala people are not Benin because there is no personal interest they will benefit for saying oduduwa is a Benin prince.

@@wellingtonomoregie-uh1ve The Ooni believes it because that's the story for all irunmoles and primordial heroes of ife. They all came from heaven. And historians understand that as myth just like the ogisos the sky kings. Obatala too is from heaven, same as sango and the rest however his earthly home is Oke-Ora hill settlement where all Oonis still receive their sacred crown. Isn't it amusing how you want to force oduduwa to be benin, when where he lived and ruled have a different story especially when benin themselves acknowledged this fact like I've proven before the 1970s,and even till date the Obas appellation states he's the Son of the wealthy oodua of ife and not ekaladerhan of benin. How comes its ugie oduduwa and not ugie ekaladerhan?? You bringing the igala into this is crazy because there's no such entity as oduduwa in igala history. The Atta would never lay claim to any oduduwa. It's only one igala man called ayegba who is angry he's from a minority ethnic group and hates yorubas that spreads such nonsense on the internet. No official igala history has any links to oduduwa. Not even benin revisions of the 1970s states that oduduwa had anything to do with igala so stop joking around here. You can believe what you want and what your palace promotes today to make yourself feel better, my job is to debunk this lies by exposing what benin used to say before the 1970s political revision and what Ife states about their their own king. There's a reason why your current king Oba Ewuare on his coronation deliberately stated that the version of ekaladerhan magically becoming oduduwa shouldn't be pushed outside benin because he understands its a political narrative to ensure longetivity of his throne as well as a unique cultural identity for the edo

Various Yoruba legends claim that Oduduwa came from Egypt or Saudi Arabia, or even fell from the sky. And since the oracles prophesied that Oduduwa would come from the East of Ife, I guess that the more pertinent question is: was Oduduwa Benin, Egyptian, or Saudi Arabian since we all know that Oduduwa was a foreigner to Ife and definitely not Youruba.

@@officialmail8489 clearly the oldest narration which was, unfortunately for you, completed some more than 100 years before your 1970 distortion was that Oduduwa came from Oke Ora. Oduduwa was autonomous to Ife, from one part of Ile `Ife to another, there is tons of evidence validating this, the Ade Are, oduduwa original crown which every Oni wears once a year is kept away from the palace in a place where speaks to the origin of Oduduwa in Ife. East of Ife and Oracle: Were you or your grandparent the oracle? How is it that you have of an oracle, and the people whose problem the oracle is to solve don't know? Only Bini knows of an oracle and one east... Yoruba ask you to provide the evidence of the Oracle since you think you can barb their head in their absence. Myths: All or most histories in the world have myths. Greek, Romans,, Old British etc. If you read the story of Julius Caesar, you would agree. Some even recorded that he lived with two horns on his head, he was a historical hero of his race. Myth could be a divine/temporal attachment or romanticisation. Even Gandhi of yesterday's history in India has myth around . Myth is for you to understand the veneration accorded the historical figure not for you to look for a lop hole to exploit. Ogiso Igodo? The founder of Igodomigodo..where did he come from? Imagine Owoh wakes up one day and tell you that because your myth about Ogiso Igodo says he came from the sky, therefore he must have come from them? No evidence, no corroboration from you,... does this make any sense to you? There are at least two sides to a story. For a story to be credible, it must be correlated by the two sides, or you present a shred of compelling evidence to override the other side. In your case, only you in 1970 woke up and knew that you gave birth to your own father... Your brothers and cousins, uncles don't know. Itshekiri Your brother did not know their father came from Bini Oduduwa other children, Kingdoms, in Benin Republic, Alaketu, Onipopo,Onisabe, etc never knew, the same father hate them so much that he never told them his true identity... The world can see through your antics and self-deceit.. and the world knows you are just fooling yourself with the lies..you are going nowhere with it.... You have zero evidence ... no consensus from the other side

This story is a lie. It does not tally with all other historical evidences from other parts of Edo State. Ekaladeran has no relationship with oduduwa. It's just a spin selling story invented to give the current Benin ruling house Edo legitimacy. It has become an embarrassment that the Benin royal family is Yoruba. It is too late in the dayto rewrite Benin history Oba Sijuwade. It is strange after many years of association help and spiritual support that the Oduduwa ruling house in Benin has decided to rewrite their history.

@@kennedyirogue3041 it is a lie. How did the whites communicate with oba ovanranwen? They used interpreters. The chiefs who visited Ife used in nterpreters. Go to Usen in Edo state they speak Yoruba. This story is completely false and made up. It is too late in the day to rewrite Benin history it is already documented.

@@jesuslovesme8824 Usen is neighboring communities to Yoruba communities that’s very understandable. The Oba of Benin story is a true story. Oduduwa spoke the same language with the Benin chiefs. Since Oduduwa subjects saw him as super human they may not had questioned.

@@kennedyirogue3041 you see the blind argument so there were no neighboring communities to Ife Yoruba land when the chiefs went there. History is not rewritten oranmiyan was invited to Benin out of jealousy oliha had for Owodo who was childless and who lost an eye in a hunting expedition with the same oliha who was eyeing the throne. Oranmiyan real names is oluwaye a banished prince who contested for ooni of Ife throne but lost out. He became the first oba of Benin and married the daughter of ogie Egor. Through this maternal blood is where the Benin royal family became related to Benin. That is why they fight, kill and malign anyone who tells them Thier true story and are trying to rewrite Benin history which is already a closed cannon like the biblical book of revelation. The current fight to link themselves to the Ogiso dynasty is an exercise in futility. However they should count themselves lucky and accept fate they Omon n Oba is king today in Benin by the grace of God. But rewriting history is totally dishonest and insult sensibilities of documented history. The royal house in Britain today is from Germany they haven't rewritten their history and are yet acceptable. The oba of Benin should focus on people based projects and he will still be well loved by his people thank you.

Lagos kingship was founded by Benin. Because Yoruba land then had three principal kings one spiritual and two political. The spiritual ooni of Ife and the two political alafin and Omon n oba.. other Yoruba monarch were lesser monarchs and had their domains within these three. Egba were under the balogin of oyo olu Ibadan and were expelled from ibadan in 1667. Benin was also very influential in the region particularly in ondonareas and ekiti were Benin dominated their polity.

Look at you, you can not even write or pronounce it. It is" Ile Ibinu"! "Edo ni Ibinu". Ibinu was way back the name after Igodomigodo, which the Portuguese change to Benin, mumu. Hence, Omonoyan came to Benin and could not understand the supremacy of the Benin, with such frustration called us Ile Ibinu, land of vexation. Now, what does Ibinu mean in Yoruba? You tell the whole world here what does Ibinu means in Yoruba. "Ile" means "land" what about the Ibinu? Of course with your YARIBA propaganda and your crookedness tries to change it to vexation. Guess what? We FULLY ACCEPT it because we are warriors!!!!

Make una try dey reason with logic. How could Oranmiyan that never stepped foot into Benin city renamed it after living for a short while? That is fallacy in itself.
