I concur with Ivanhoe Chaput. I'll add, however, that, sometimes, instructors can be brilliant, but often, they're careless about their language. Notice, in general (as a society), how the vernacular language is highly used. And not only English, but other languages are not valued.😭😭😭😭

I was born and live in Mexico in the southern border from USA and since I was a boy, I started to speak and sometimes went to English schools, but never found a teacher like her. Indeed, thank you for taking the time! :) Just one note, though. The Latin word for "animal" is actually "animal", without the "e", and the basic form for "station" is actually "statio", as "stationem" is a different grammatical form, belonging to a case called "Accusative".

I reckon it's got to do more with an accent issue. I haven't ever personally heard a native speaker correcting someone for their accent. I've heard them trying to convey meaning.

In northern Ireland we have a very odd accent and speak as fast as the Scots. We can usually understand any accent but at times we get someone from Scotland or Wales who can talk way too fast. The English people talk too slow.

The Anglo part comes from Anglia. a region and tribe in northern Germany and southern Denmark, the very name Eng-land too.

That is correct. And the Saxon tribes that migrated to England, were actually living in the north of Germany too. Nowadays, parts of that region now form the German state "Lower Saxony". Not to be confused with the modern German state called Saxony which is located in a different part of the country and did not exist until many centuries later. However, Anglia is still the name of a region in the Schleswig part of the northermost state of Germany "Schleswig-Holstein". The "Lower German" dialects, still spoken by some in the northern parts, have a lot of similarities with Dutch/Flemish and the Germanic parts of the English language.

Frisians and Jutes also contributed to English. I suppose she covered Frisian when she mentioned the “low countries” (Flanders in this case). Jutes were very likely from modern Denmark, however. Hence, Jutland peninsula etc.

Aye, the earlier name of Engand was Albion, Scotland was Alba, Irish Albain and Wales Yr Albain. Britain came from the Roman Britannia and before that Pretannia from the Greek name for the isle

I don't know how to thank you,dear teacher Gill, for the very interesting,excellent history about the english language . I knew something about it,but now all is clear .I studied latin language when I was a boy,at the middle school ,in the years 1950-1955 and I liked to study that language a lot,because,as you know, there are not determinative or indeterminative articles used in latin language .We learned how to use the endings (desinenza in italiano)of the words to understand well their meanings . That way to study latin, helped all of us (students) to learn the italian grammar .If we know well the latin language and its logical analysis,it will be so easy to learn correctly the italian language also.My best regards.
