Она действительно сильной женщиной была, настоящей русской! И в самом деле "Господь поместил мужскую натуру в женское тело". Мне она очень нравится. Прекрасная работа, автор.)

Some facts you should know about Elizabeth Petrovna's story: 1) She reigned as Empress of Russia from 1741 until her death in 1762 and remains one of the most popular Russian monarchs because of her decision not to execute a single person during her reign, her numerous construction projects, and her strong opposition to Prussian policies. 2) You can see her half-nephew Peter II who died young and Anna Ivanovna (Elizabeth's cousin by a kinship to Alexis the Quietest, their grandfather),who succeed the throne. There was little love lost between the cousins. When the Empress Anna asked the Chinese minister in St. Petersburg to identify the most beautiful woman at her court, he pointed to Elizabeth, much to Anna's displeasure. 3) She was betrothed to marry Charles Augustus of Holstein-Gottorp. But her fiancé died on 31 May 1727, before her wedding could be celebrated. Though such circumstance Elizabeth, opposite, didn't left any chance to save alliance with Germany and invited Princess Fredericka, the future Catherine II. 4) She eventually found a long-term companion in Alexis Razumovsky. A handsome,good-hearted and at the same time simple-minded man, Razumovsky never showed interest in affairs of state during all the years of his relationship with Elizabeth. As the couple was devoted to each other, there is reason to believe that they might even have married in a secret ceremony. 5) After the death of Empress Anna, the regency of Anna Leopoldovna for the infant Ivan VI,Anna's great-nephew, was marked by high taxes and economic problems. On the night of 25 November 1741, Elizabeth seized power with the help of the Preobrazhensky Regiment. Arriving at the regimental headquarters wearing a warrior's metal breastplate over her dress and grasping a silver cross, she challenged them: "Whom do you want to serve: me, your natural sovereign, or those who have stolen my inheritance?" Won over, the regiment marched to the Winter Palace and arrested the infant Emperor and his parents. 6) Elizabeth had vowed that if she became Empress, she would not sign a single death sentence, an extraordinary promise at the time but one that she kept throughout her life. 7) Before Catherine and Peter's marriage. Mother of the bride,Joanna Elisabeth of Holstein-Gottorp,had a love affair with Count Ivan Betskoy, well known for conspiring against Empress Elizabeth, caused the empress to threaten to force them both to return to Germany. 8) The great event of Elizabeth's later years was the Seven Years' War. Russian Empire acceded to the Second Treaty of Versailles, thus entering into an alliance with France (Madame de Pompadour) and Austria (Maria Theresa) against Prussia (Frederick II). After Peter III ("Nature had made him mean, the smallpox had made him hideous, and his degraded habits made him loathsome") succeeded to the Russian throne, he supported Frederick II, eroding much of his support among the nobility because the war and many people's lives were lost.Catherine II had her mad husband arrested, and forced him to sign a document of abdication, leaving no one to dispute her accession to the throne. 8) Elizabeth had inherited her father's genius for government. Her usually keen judgment and her diplomatic tact again and again recalled Peter the Great. What sometimes appeared as irresolution and procrastination was most often a wise suspension of judgment.

I also admire Elizabeth on some points. I am a firm oponent of the death penalty, and not signing any death sentences was a modern way to act. It has also been said that Elizbeth was a pious woman (even if I know she also is said to have been drinking relatively much alcohol). I am myself I am myself a believer in Christ. Also, Elizabeth gave my country Sweden a cheap peace after the war 1741-43, that Russia won. Elizabeth also contributed to that Adolf Fredrik of Holstein Gottorp, a relative of Peter III and also a descendant of Swedish kings, and who was king of Sweden 1751-71, was elected crown prince of Sweden in 1743, when the king before him had no, for Sweden possible, heirs inside marriage. Through female line we still have that dynasty on our throne, even if Adolf Fredriks grandson Gustav IV Adolf was deposed in 1809 and his family repaced by antoher dynasty, because his family was intermarried with the new dynasty (Bernadotte) in 1881, so in one way Adolf Fredriks dynasty returned to our throne. When it comes to Peter III, an alternative way to see him is that he actually carried out some social reforms and also saved lives by ending Russias involvement in the 7 years war. If I had been Peter III I would also have ended the war, as he did, but I might, which he didn´t, still have kept Königsberg under Russian control, as it is a port at the mainpart of the Baltic Sea. I believe that Paul I WAS actually Peter III:s biological son, but that the daughter Catherine gave birth to, Anna, was not the biological daughter of Peter. Yes Catherine had a number of relations. As I remember it there are claims that Peter said so himself, that Anna wasn´t his biological daughter, but recognized Paul as his son. If Paul I was Peters biological son - then Peter III is our king Carl XVI Gustafs grandfathers grandmothers grandmothers grandfather, an ancestor 8 generations back. Then ou king descends also from Peter I of Russia. Our king descends from Pauls daughter Maria Pavlovna (born in 1786). Peter III was also a grandchilds child of the Swedish king Karl XI, king 1660-1697.

Julia Aug's portrayal of Elizavetha I is highly underrated. She stole the spotlight from Marina Aleksandrova, even though the series was about the latter.
