The victims can't vote and the perpetrators are usually scumbags that most voters can't or won't identify with. Money needs to go to more important things, like showy projects that can get on the news and be used in campaign ads. It's all about the money.

I live in southern Ohio. 6 1/2 years ago our next door neighbor had a baby girl, born 1 month early. The mother was a addict. She was constantly asking for help, money or anything else that she wanted. By the end of the 2nd week, that baby girl spent at least 3 days with us. The following week it was 5 days. We talked to CPS, to the sheriff's department, but taking a child away from the bio parents in Ohio is a long drawn out process. We weren't foster parents. But, CPS had already met my better half and talked to her almost daily, and before long the neighbor girl and CPS asked if we would take the baby. We got emergency certification as temporary foster parents in two days. This little girl was tiny. We both are on our 2nd go around and both have grown kids and I already have 5 grandkids. There was hesitation but knew we couldn't let this child stay with the mother. She eventually started thriving after about one to two months old and hasn't looked back. When she turned 3, the bio mom got caught receiving tax credits for the little girl along with other charges. She was sent to rehab. After she got out, she decided she wanted her baby back. She had already spent the first 3 years of her life with us. There was nothing we could do since we're no relation so we just did everything we could to accommodate and help the mother. Obviously, it wasn't easy. It's like losing your own child by this point. We watched for 11 months as this "mother" and her new boyfriend tried to raise three kids all under 5, while being addicted to several drugs. She lost custody again after 9 months. The little girl went to get grandma who had previously taken no steps to help. She keeps her fur about 6 months. That was 3 1/2 years ago and tiger little girl is back with us permanently. In the spring we can adopt and we plan to. The state bends over backwards to get children back to parents. To the point of harming children. The alternative is a foster system that is overwhelmed and under staffed. Neither of us had ever attempted to be foster parents before. It just fell into our laps. But I will say, I am glad it happened. Hopefully with time, our little girl will heal from the knowledge of having a family who have either failed or rejected keeping her. She's got a great children's therapist that she sees weekly and is slowly getting past it. But, she's still thriving. She's almost 7 but thinks she's 17 and a bundle of energy. Try the foster system. You might serve a child. Peace ✌️

My Aunt used to foster kids. Her last placement was with an infant named Willie. He was born addicted and cried non-stop for the first two months. I bought her the softest clothes and blankets to wrap him in. The poor little guy was crawling out of his skin and it seemed everything that touched him hurt. Then when he was around 2.5 months old he settled in. He started to flourish. When he was around 18 months or so my Aunt was told he was getting a "kinship foster" placement. She questioned the caseworker because my Aunt had been told that Willie had no viable family which was why he was originally placed with her. To make a long and sad story short, the state of AZ placed him with the bio Dad's ex-gf. In my mind, an ex-gf is NOT kin. The ex-gf and the bio parents were cahoots. The bio parents told the ex-gf she could keep half of the foster care checks and they would take the baby. Willie died of blunt force trauma 18 days after he left my Aunt. She never did foster care again and she hasn't been the same since. The thing is social workers are pressured to perform just like any other job. They are pressured to place kids in "kinship" placements and are in a hurry to clear their cases. They have performance reviews and these "stats" matter. I believe this is because a huge portion of our foster care system is privatized. The government uses state and federal taxpayer funds to pay private FOR PROFIT companies to find foster parents, monitor foster homes including group homes- in fact, MOST group homes are run by FOR PROFIT companies. I don't think FOR PROFIT companies should be in the business of caring for our most vulnerable. People and Profit never end well. You have to ask yourself if these companies are in the business of making money off of people then what is their motivation to get these kids out of the system? This is why SOOOO many kids who end up in group homes go directly to Juvi and then Jail and then prison. They have been institutionalized from day one. If you ever want to go down a rabbit hole- look into foster to group to juvi. Most of the companies that run one, run the others. I once spent way too long looking into who sat on the boards of these private companies that work in foster care and I found that A LOT of the people that sat on the board, also sat on the board of private for-profit prisons. I never say "private business" anymore. I always say "FOR PROFIT company." That way it reminds everyone that profit is being made. Anyways. If you read this overly long post - light a candle and say Willie's name so that he isn't forgotten and may live on in some way.

I know words are cheap, but may I send my sorrow for you, your absolutely incredible Aunt, and, of course, Baby Willie (which I hope a flight of angels took him to his rest, and to be counted amongst their own ...) ... I agree with you: having being involved with social services, both inactive, and active, participant, that combination of having to meet expectations, plus chronic underfunding, means that removing a child completely from a family of origin is only done as an absolute last resort. Otherwise, the intense pressure, from above, means that, even if their instincts is to remove the child as far away as possible, given being placed in a no-win situation, and despite all of the red flags, they are often forced to do the unthinkable. On top of that, is the caseload; due to the lack of staff, the average Social Worker often has far too many, and, often, individually, very complex cases, which the have to constantly manage, like plate spinning. Given, again, the chronic underfunding, and that Social Work is seen as a high-risk, low-reward, career, with so few employed, with so little appropriate training, and pay far too low for the job that they do, it's no wonder that history of child deaths, at the hands of their own parents, especially the mother's, keeps happening, repeatedly, especially when multiple agencies are involved, and are unable to coordinate properly. Child protection shouldn't just be seen as a matter for the States alone, but also a Federal one, too, especially as when the families under suspicion, keeps moving from one State to another. Just moving across a State line, with similar complaints following them, at that point, something Federal, concerning child welfare, and protection, should swing into place, and seen not just as felonies, but capital crimes, as well, especially if one, or more, child deaths is attributed to them. If found guilty, through a unanimous verdict, and depending on the extent of the abuse, even if they plead guilty, as a priority plea deal, the tarrif of sentencing should begin with 25 years, and upto, and including, Life, without Parole, especially to be carried out in solitary confinement, in a maximum security prison. I say solitary confinement, because, due to the testimony of former hostages, especially ones captured in Beruit, solitary confinement, for them, was like "being buried alive" ... I still remember be taken to a famous castle, in Northern England, where, in the dungeon, and separated from the rest by a something of a wall, was a hole in the ground that stretched horizontally, and covered by a small, square, locked, grate, illuminated by a single halogen lamp. There is a name for it, but essentially, once the prisoner was slid into this thing, with the face staring upwards into the gloom of that dungeon, through those iron bars, of that grate, hearing the screams of the tortured, and essentially forgotten about (which is almost what the name of that hole means), with only occasional meals, the combination of dehydration, starvation, and, of course, forced to lay in not only their own excrement, but also that of the prisoners before them, meant disease, and death, was likely. Granted, that is now considered a cruel and unusual punishment, if not torture, and is banned as such ... ... but locked up, by, and with, oneself, especially for someone whom thrives on company, and left alone with one's own thoughts, having to face their own daemons, 23hrs, everyday, with only 1 hour of unscheduled exercise outside that cell, for years, if not decades, for extroverts, in particular, all of that will eat away at them. So, quite aside from the Innocents Project, which finds a few too many incorrectly convicted individuals on Death Row, why I think Capital Punishment should be restricted to Life without Parole, is because a death sentence, especially by lethal injection (which is only one step furthest away from a General Anesthetic, especially in some highly difficult surgeries ...), that is almost too swift. To be forced to live out their lives, in a cell, especially as they age, is, to me, a far worse a punishment. In case of this ... mother ... to be locked away in a relatively small room, would, hopefully, give her an idea of being trapped inside those two crates, which, had Baby Dylan not been found, would've been his coffin for eternity ... so let both those two 'parents' experience that, each, seperated, and alone, from each other ...

I am a recovering addict and know first hand how strong the hold and influence of addiction can be. That being said, NEVER at any point, regardless of how deep your addiction runs, do you magically lose the knowledge of right and wrong. Sure, it can sink you into an abyss of desperation, which can definitely make you do things you wouldn’t normally even consider (like stealing or pawning valuables etc). It doesn’t turn your brain off though. It doesn’t erase all morals. They were monsters before drugs entered the picture. The drugs just lifted the layers of deception they surrounded themselves in so people wouldn’t know who they really were. Drugs are not an excuse for unacceptable behavior. Take it from an addict.

I have unfortunately only seen a dead child one time in my life... when I was 14 my mom and dad and I were on vacation and we had our rv in a campground for the night. They had a lake for swimming and a mother had walked into the lake with her kids and the undertow swept both the kids up and she got a hold of one of them, the little girl wasn't found till 4 hours later 😥 there must have been 5 men trying to hold this mother down,she was hysterical... the little girl was ghost white and lying there,my mother, dad and I were crying our eyes out... that scene haunted me. So many times I thought of that lady and how every year on her child's birthday she had to remember that...how heartbreaking 😥 I've been a caregiving for about 35 years now and I took care of severely and profound children for a few of those years. I have seen the results of a child who's parents, surely on a bender have destroyed their child's life.... I will never get it. .. I'm glad there's people like you, this world has become so evil it's nice to see some hope that there are good people left so thank you...❤ it's just a shame that situation even exists 😔

Its a corrupt system. Back home in NC in the 00's there was a crack family that CPS took the kids from. After one clean drug test they gave the kids back only for the parents to go on a crack binge and beat their babies to death. CPS hounds decent parents while leaving the worst scum alone. I've worked in welfare with parents who had kids removed. They were people who were generally quite mentally compromised, lower iq than normal. They treated their children like objects that had been stolen. They considered the departments demands they have money, a home and not be doing drugs before getting their kids back way too much to ask. One woman said she learned through a parenting course that she didn't own her child, this was a revelation for her. They will fight to get a baby back when they can't even look after themselves, their brains just don't work properly. The consideration that the child is an object that should serve them somehow and has no needs of their own leads directly to abuse and their ability to learn how to behave differently is quite low.

I believe we choose our lives on this earth and that we’ve had many incarnations of different kinds. Still, these types of stories are chilling. I have one child, and it physically pains me to see my child feeling sad. They don’t jump out of the womb, cal their dealer and steal money from mom and dad on the way to their dealer. They can’t even take the drugs themselves. I was a drug addicted Dad for a few years and left on my own because I knew my baby girl did not need to be around my lifestyle. It was so hard for me to except that I could not be a good father at that time. Luckily I had a beautiful, amazing wife that has never done a drug in her life…..my baby girl was safe. I went to treatment and got help and I’ve been clean for eight years now. My daughter is 11 and we are all back together and have three more children. My little girl saved my life because she is the reason I got help. These parents can’t even except the fact that they failed her child. “It was an accident “, it is such bullshit…. You don’t accidentally drop your child enough times to cause all those broken bones and not realize you did that. I don’t care what drugs you were on, you know what you do in those moments and you have to take responsibility for yourself.

I worked with a patient like that who thankfully had her kids taken away before anything worse happened. She got their names tattooed on her and everything. Even with all that, she refused to even try to be a worthy mother. She would cry about wanting her kids back but when I asked her plans of earning them back she would just give me a smile. I had built rapport with her so even she was willing to "admit" to at least a small bit of her bs. It wasn't the drugs that made her like that either, she was sober at that point because she was locked down basically. There's a lot of "mothers" like this, and I find that they create more of themselves if the child gets to live. The vast majority of mentally ill patients and trauma survivors are not like that. But when you meet one that is it's chilling. We need more foster mothers like the one in the video, and an overhaul of how we handle childcare, this is just unacceptable.

I was always told in therapy that guilt is feeling like you did something bad, shame is feeling like you are bad. I think she feels neither of those. She doesn’t think she did anything bad, or that she is bad. She just thinks it’s too bad she got caught. Most of the time in therapy people are feeling guilt and shame for things that aren’t their fault. In this case it’s the opposite. She doesn’t feel guilt and shame for things that are her fault.

Babies aren’t born addicted. They’re born dependent. A baby can’t be addicted. By definition addiction has certain behaviors that babies cannot do. They don’t jump out of the womb, cal their dealer and steal money from mom and dad on the way to their dealer. They can’t even take the drugs themselves. Saying addicted babies adds to the stigma and these kids don’t need that.

That is the most heated I've ever seen a prosecutor, and for good reason. There is so much tragedy here, baby Dylan above all. Addiction, which I assume both parents were, can and often does destroy lives and directly and peripherally, as in this case. This case is a good reminder that people need to seek treatment if they ever become addicted to drugs and or are using them regularly.

My son spent his first 6 months screaming due to (?) Cholic? Hunger ? Boredom ? He was born 23 1/2" long and only 7 lbs 15 Oz, and wanted to feed constantly. I nursed him as often as possible (he was 10 lbs 8 Oz at 3 weeks) and felt like I was going to vomit from exhaustion for all of that time. He slept for 3 minutes at a time and could remain awake for hours on that power-nap. Never EVER did I consider taking out any frustration on him ! Any sensible person would know that infancy is a finite period. (He's 28 and wonderful)

I watched my mom raise my three younger brothers. Two of them cried a LOT. They all woke up all hours of the night and didn't usually want to go back to bed. They frequently peed the bed once they were older, sometimes multiple times a night. My mom drank a lot then, took drugs at times, and she suffers from bipolar disorder, which sometimes led to pretty extreme fits of rage. She also suffers from severe migraines, which are crippling. Even so, she stopped drinking and doing drugs cold turkey when she was pregnant, every single time. There was never the remotest chance she would have hit any of them, at any point, ever. Regardless of what else may have been going on. Crying at night was met with walking, rocking, and speaking gently, even when it was obvious she could barely keep her eyes open. There's really no excuse for these parents. Drug addiction doesn't mean you act like this, despite the ridiculous implication made in this video that all drug addicts abuse their kids. When you love your kids, you love your kids. These people are just totally fucked.

Wow, that female prosecutor is incredible! It's sad that baby Dylan will never understand that people like her fought so hard for him. The parents were so selfish. For that 'mother' to say she doesn't remember how she caused those injuries is of course utter bullshit. If she would never intentionally hurt her child, she would surely remember every time she accidentally caused him any sort of pain. This is a horrible case, but I get only a small amount of joy from knowing their actions will haunt them for the rest of their lives, as they're slowly forgotten about in prison.

She remembers EVERYTHING, when she didn't have drugs, baby wouldn't stop crying BECAUSE HE HAS 25 BROKEN BONES, she murdered him, 100%. I believe Daniel is completely controlled and feared Jessica, so he let her beat him, didn't care much about anything but getting high. Glad Daniel Jr made it out unharmed.
