The story of MAGNUM the off-road mower (start to finish)

Over just a year tony and I built his mower magnum, this took very many attempt at building a solid rig as we were learning in the process!
Lots of time went into reinforcing the light duty frame, steering, clutching, and transaxle.
We tried I believe 4 different 3/4 axle shaft transaxle and would break something on them after 1-2 rides! Our boy tony was just to hard on these smaller sizes trans.
So after a year our buddy nick found 2 beautiful peerless 820’s at our local scrap yard, which was a miracle as we don’t get many of these transaxles in our part of the woods let alone for free at the scrap yard!
We got right to it, and started cutting apart magnum as we decided it was a great idea to stretch the frame and move the axle back 3.5” so he would have a better length wheel base and also fit his tires in the wheel wells better!
With this frame and trans upgrade we installed a set of gio pit bike front brakes to the factory location of the peerless 820 aswell as using the stock brake disk! This was a absolutely insane upgrade out on the trails!
With the new trans came a opportunity to resign magnums shifter and linkage as our original setup would not work with the 820.
We built a custom setup so tony could push the lever forward 5 clicks and back one for reverse!
This build it still being upgraded and always will be!

Hey Riley, I am looking for a used steering box like the one Taryl used on his Jeep palomino build. He used a Chevy Vega steering box. I am truly thinking about stretching my GT18 20 or 30 inches to get really good hillclimb stability like the Michigan Mud Mower gang...Mud Mowers From Hell... I have to source another frameso I can graft the other one onto the one I have. Tell Tony great build. Hey, what music do you use. Would I be able to use it for my videos also? I think it would be cool if all of us involved in this sport used similar music. It is very cool and not obtrusive.

How well did the steering seem to work? Pros and cons about that setup?

It worked well for awhile! Developed lots of play tho! Having light duty mower steering gears are not the way to go! We have be upgrading and modifying this setup and it has worked well the whole time! Stay tuned though we’re about to rip it all out and build magnum and sweet steering setup and front axle!

Why did he keep blowing axles? Tire size or just worn out to begin with?

3/4” axles shaft transaxles can’t hold up to the abuse, plus having the 25” tires does not help

Peerless 820 with 1” live axle mod was the fix! Never looked back since

I've gotta replace an axle on this 806 in the JD111 anyway so I'm planning to go live axle. Not sure I have enough material to step up to 1" in this case. Finding the part# for the axle needle bearings is pretty hard so far. I'll keep my eye out for an 820. Thanks.
