My mammaw was like this. She worked so hard in the gardens canning married to a coal miner...we are Scottish Cherokee. Mammaw was born in a teepee. I wouldn't trade my Appalachian roots for nothing. Miss Velvie is so happy in heaven. Mammaw prayed and pointed me to the Savior. I miss her but I am old now .I'll see her and Jesus soon.😇😊❤

My mother was Irish, Cherokee, etc. with beautiful blue eyes my sister got. Grandpa was a medicine man & blacksmith who never owned a car or worked for another, although he bartered mostly. Had a rattlesnake ranch that provided cash, taking their venom to the hospital on his monthly trip to town (his WW2 Vet sons drove him) and bought a barrel of flour, bag of sugar, etc. I am old & retired now too, but still remember them well although they went home when I was a child. GBU & yours, wherever you may be. ~

Me too Deborah!! My lil boy just took his life so I'm ready to hold. Him again!! My ma -ma and nampie had a huge potato farm and dairy. I had asthma and she gave me Clorox to breathe and rub my wart with a penny then bury it. Lol😅😂😂😅... But ma- ma and Nampa were french as all family ....nobody talks to each other Which is the saddest

My Mamaw didn't hold much stock in " new medicine". I can count on one hand at the times i went to a doctor when i was a youngin. Mamaw had all the home remedies we needed and fed us good food that kept us healthy. She passed that on to Momma and to me. Loved this story and the truth behind every word ol' Velvie spoke. Very cool story Jared! Miss Velvie was truly an angel, as are all with that gift. I had a few old friends like her like her when I was young, sweet as sugar most times but a mouth tart as vinegar when they thought you needed it! Listening to you tell this story makes me miss them. I hope that Doctor found another person to pass that knowledge on to. The combined knowledge and when to use what would be an awesome thing to have! Great story. I haven't met her yet...but will in heaven in eternity. But, my great grandma , Mama Trudie , was a blessing to her community in South Carolina. They had a small farm where she had a medicinal garden. She would serve those ailing , day and night they would come or send someone and she would make a poultice, or tincture , or whatever to help cure people. Many stories of her and Papa Frank have i heard from my Mom.....who is reunited with them in heaven for over 3 years now. Peace and Blessings!
