At the time of this interview, this 87 year old lady was still driving a semi truck. I don't think many people have caught she's a truck driver along with supporting rental properties and her own farm. She's put generations of her family through school while living in one of the most impoverished areas of the US. She's a perfect example of not lying down and letting the world beat you down.

I loved growing up in the Appalachian mountains. It's a hard life, but it'll keep you strong and healthy. The community bonds run very deep and they stay strong. I could go back there today and probably everyone would remember me from 30 years ago, and they'd remember the names of every one of my babies. I still remember all of them, too. It's a life that's built on strong bonds and kinsmanship. If your neighbor needed food, you gave it. If they needed fire wood or coal, you went around collecting it for them, especially if they were elderly bc those are our living ancestors. Everything we will build in our lives will be built upon their sacrifices for us, so they will always get our respect and consideration first. It's a very different value system than most people have today.

We’re definitely not all dumb backwoods inbreds like a lot of Hollywood likes to make us out to be. This is the norm here…not the usual stereotype. I grew up in Whitetop, VA but moved to North Carolina at 18…….I am extremely proud of where I’m from, I speak a very country accent and I get made fun of all the time and I just laugh it off……ppl just don’t understand what’s it’s like to grew up where there were farms and my Mom raised gardens that were so big, she canned and we had good ole’ sausage and we could make the best gravy around with it, green beans (pink tip, if anyone has heard of them, but they make the best beans), jellies and jams and pumpkin pies with homemade pie crust, my granny and my Mom were both terrific cooks…….we called biscuits “catheads”……I have no idea how that came about but I’ve heard it all of my life. My granny taught my Mom so much and Mom done her best to teach it to my sisters and I, I remember granny and Mom saying things like “if you don’t listen you will feel” “a stitch in time saves nine”……haha I remember my granny called kids that weren’t minding hulick (probably way off on the spelling lol) she also said Hethrin (probably spelled wrong too lol…..I didn’t say I could spell em just that I heard them growing up) so many words I heard my granny say, granny didn’t care to whip ya butt when you were bad and my parents done the same and I appreciate every whipping I got and probably needed more lol…….kids nowadays need a good butt whipping every once in a while and they wouldn’t be spoiled brats lol……oh I’m off on a tangent lol, just wanted to say I love this little Ruby, she’s a blessing✝️🎚️😇

Agree 100%. I grew up in Appalachia and moved to cities after. I learned quickly that people mock, look down upon, and make fun of Applachian people. I'm glad this channel brings to light that some of these people are living happier, more wholesome lives than those who degrade them. This makes my soul happy!

I used to work with a lady called Ruki, she was 70 and worked the night shift (alone) at a residential home for four severely autistic men. She came from Tanzania at the age of 20 completely alone (to the UK), spoke little to no English and put herself through a nursing qualification by working day and night wherever she could. She initially lived in Glasgow and her stories of trying to get through with her little Scottish phrase book were hilarious. She hitchhiked anywhere she wanted to go - this tiny little woman had no fear. She eventually managed to buy a very small flat and henceforth sent every single penny she earned. barring very frugal living expenses, back to Tanzania to pay for EVERY niece and nephew she had to get good educations. She herself stayed single and childless in order to do so. Each one of them became doctors / dentists / a professional of some kind. A truly amazing woman.

When I do, it’s very hard for me to find it and fix it. There are also people who have issues with their hands who are also having this issue. So please don’t assume that everyone who hits the “dislike” button is mean or a “hater”. There is a large population of disabled people who use technology that requires us to swipe or tap the screen in the area of the dislike button in order to have the comments read to us. My apologies for it. Please understand that as blind people, we have to work hard to stay connected and to have a voice in the world. We mean no disrespect.

Mrs. Ruby you are one in ten billion. I had an accident and I am paralyzed from the waist down. I have been feeling a little down lately. This was the video I needed to see right now. Your rendition of Amazing Grace swept me away and gave me some hope, In your interview you said that you hoped maybe one person would see this and it would make a difference in their lives. Well I see from the previous comments that you have had a HUGE impact on the world and I am one of those voices. I imagine you might be Order of the Evening Star. however, I agree that getting involved in building a strong family and community is so important. Thank you for sharing your story. Excellent interview Mark. I think she wanted to sit and talk with you a little while longer it was adorable.
