Few people watch the Paralympics, and people pay attention to Leary largely because she is good-looking and young

It’s so sad that the news and popular media pays such large attention to Alexa Leary. It really showcases how people only support her because they can imagine themselves losing everything and becoming disabled rather than imagining growing up disabled from the beginning. Not to mention Alexa’s utterly disgusting behaviour - I’ve witnessed firsthand her treatment of others - and her disregard for any other athletes who are also disabled (it’s always me me me)

Hi Sam, It's disappointing that you think that way, but her story inspires people for much more than just that. She's motivating others to make the most out of life. Her drive to succeed is truly inspiring, whether you realise it or not. As for what you call "disgusting behavior," it's important to understand that she has brain damage, which leads to emotional outbursts at times. Alexa works extensively with behavioral therapists to relearn social interactions. The injury affected the emotional centers of her brain, so yes, she can be irrational, impulsive, and loud, and she may lack a filter. But she's also an incredibly genuine person who loves her fellow athletes deeply. She's always working hard to improve her behavior, and if she realises she's offended someone, she's the first to apologise. Alexa has a huge heart and worked her ass off for 3 years to get to where she is. Maybe have some more compassion and understanding of brain damage before you comment next time.
