My Grandad served in the Royal Navy during WWII and often spoke about the rum rations on his ship, the HMS Jamaica... he'd mentioned sippers, tots, etc.. and how sometimes they would collect their rum rations and not drink them straight away. Loved those stories. He passed away years ago, but I'll be picking up a bottle of Pussers rum and toasting to him. Cheers in heaven, Grandad!

This Rum is wonderfull i am still the proud owner of a origional cask of Pussers rum still with the cane basket and sealing wax that it was shipped in i got this from the depths of Gibralter after the Tot had been stopped i think i got it on the way back from the far east while on board HMS DIDO

Congratulations, I couldn't have lasted 10 years without hosting a party. There's nothing like a tot of pussers to make a fusillade of grapeshot seem like a break from the monotony.

People need to see this video! I got friends who drink hooped up rums with pictures of octopuses (kraken rum) pirates and all matter of seaworthy images to sell its fake crappy product. However, this rum (like a few others out there with its own history) has a deep and long history for nearly 3 centuries. Such a rum should and can not be put away or dismissed so easily. One should at least try it neat, and in its "grog" form of history. It aint fake, it aint storytelling, thousands of british sailors died at sea with this in their history,..Its the real deal of REAL historical sailing RUM! If one loves the sea or is part of a Navy of some other country, then one must at least try it.

I think smith&cross has also a big story, but nothing compares to Pussers. I also agree on the kraken.. Its just not my taste.
@Shipwright19183 жыл бұрын
General consensus on Kraken is you either really like it or really hate it, sort of like root beer in the soft drink world. Personally like it, as it's a flavorful little sipper, though I do admit Pusser's is my #1 rum so far.

Yes I agree people need to see the video. I have still got my GALLON of navy rum that I got in 1977 from Lotti ( god bless her) via our Jossman on HMS Arrow for £8.50 then had to pay £22 in customs. I went back to Gib 3 years ago and tied to get some more . I did however get some Pussers 75% overproof rum The gallon is now worth around 1500euro. The gallon hasn't been opened still has the wax seal on with my name tag on "Fred " Perry

I'm not exactly a salty old fogey who has had more than his fair share of rum, but in the past year or so I've been perusing the rum section of the local liquor stores. Screech was always my favorite, partly because I like the strong taste, partly because of my own Newfie pride. Eventually I stumbled upon Pusser's, the information on the bottle instantly got the attention of my love of history, so I bought it. It's been my favorite since, with Screech at second, and Sailor Jerry's at third.

See I'm drinking Woods navy atm and I think as far as dark rums go it's pretty good but if what this video says is true I am happy to support out armed forces by buying this stuff as well. More research is required though to make sure they aren't scamming us.

I didn’t realise it was diluted so much. 1/2 pint rum to 1 quart water is effectively 1 part rum to 4 parts water. So that gunpowder proof 54.5% rum is drunk at 10.9%, slightly less than wine. It must have been a real mess when they all drank it neat!
@LandersWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
I think they unofficially did dilute it themselves but yeah there was no official requirement to until Vernon stepped in.
