This is a game I truly loved playing in the late ‘80s here in Kuwait. You tend to make a lot of history videos about games that I have my own history with and that’s one of the main reasons why I subscribed to this channel. I remember this game being an instant favorite from the very first time I played it at a local arcade that sadly does not exist anymore.

Excellent video !!!! My older brother and I fell in love with this game when a local department store put this cabinet in their lobby . We would play from the start of our parent's shopping trips till the end when they would have to tell us multiple times to stop playing because we were going home . One time we went in and a technician was servicing the cabinet and let us play for free the entire time . We were on cloud 9 . Then it finally came to the NES and I was so disappointed because Ralph was my favorite character and the NES didn't include him .

A noteworthy predecessor was _Crush, Crumble, and Chomp,_ a popular computer game where you went around trashing a city and trying to survive attacks from its pesky defenders. You could play as ripoffs of Godzilla, The Blob, and Rodan ... but weirdly not King Kong (most games like Donkey Kong of the time were inspired by the popularity of the 70's King Kong movie). Epyx would also follow up _Crush, Crumble, and Chomp_ with _The Movie Monster Game_ in 1986, but I don't think the latter was as popular. Another game that might have served some inspiration for Rampage was the C64 game Save New York. While the goal of the game is to _save_ New York, the skyscrapers get in your way and it's a lot more fun to destroy New York. When you shoot out an entire floor of a building, everything above that floor collapses down.

I enjoyed this in the arcade, although I didn't really appreciate Rampage until my roommate in college had it on his Atari Lynx. That port was great for a hand held. Unfortunately, once I finally tracked down a copy, it was for the 7800. Even for the standards of that system, it's not great. It's graphics look terrible, and while the game play still feels like Rampage, the characters move slow to the point that avoiding damage is nearly impossible. And because of that, I hit game over at the same level every time I play.

My first experience with Rampage was via the SMS version through emulation. It really was ported everywhere. I bought this pirated CD filled with emulators and roms. In hindsight, the port was excellent. Not certain if I actually see Rampage's influence in game development history as you've pointed out in the video. I personally don't see the causal connection. (The RAID: Shadow Legends plug made me chuckle, but congratulations on the sponsorship👏)

My first introduction to Rampage was World Tour on the N64, regardless it was a 2D game on what was largely known to be a 3D console, I still had a blast with it and loved the characters, music and art style. I also remember getting the Game Boy Color port of it... and unsurprisingly it was trash. Though it did a surprisingly decent job replicating the people screaming with the limited soundfont it had. Though personally I miss the sexy scientist girl from World Tour (named Elizabeth Veronica, apparently a reference to Archie comics' Betty and Veronica), she never made a reappearance in any other game afterward.

Being born in '92, my first interaction with the series was with Rampage: World Tour. I later got Rampage 2: Universal Tour, and remember playing that one a lot more. The only downside to the series is, after a handful of levels, it gets kind of boring. It really is the same thing on every single level, and there are a lot of levels, like 130 of them. At least UT added 5 new characters and special moves. Rampage through Time added another monster, but i remember that game being pretty bad.

I screenshot @12:02 and that is what failure looks like. There is no reason for the existence of an Atari VCS/2600 version of games like Rampage or double dragon. That's why Atari failed. They couldn't just give up on the poor folks who couldn't afford their later systems. You have to make things obsolete to move forward. Atari shot themselves in the foot by trying to please everyone, especially the poor who couldn't afford the newer systems
