I also had mixed feeling s about how they portrayed Rick Flag... He is a complex mix, a bit of idealism of Captain America but will do what it takes IF NECESSARY... also he has a fierce loyalty to his team and would fight outnumbered to save one of the Suicide Squad but will just as easily activate the explosive in their head if they abandon a mission or betray the others... he has a code. So when he simply shrugged off half of his team being sacrificed as a decoy in THE SUICIDE SQUAD and also him being so gullible about Amanda Waller after the first film and in the second film sacrificing half of the team. Rick Flag is loyal, honorable ,resourceful, deadly and fearless and I would have loved to see that fleshed out and show him do some cool stuff on screen but alas, the spotlight was reserved for Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Idris ELba and others.
