The Story of SethBling - The Legend of Minecraft Redstone

I think SethBling was who made the Immersive Portals and G.L.A.S.S. mods possible. Those two mods use very similar coding mechanics to reproduce the effect SethBling made in his original video. These two mods aren't the only mods he unknowingly helped make reality, but to be honest, I couldn't name all of them if I tried. He truly did revolutionize the game completely.

he didn't make it possible per se, but he did show that it was possible in vanilla minecraft. Portals like those have existed since the early 2000s with narbacular drop (precursor to the portal series). Also, if I recall, iChun (who made G.L.A.S.S) experimented with see-through portals in the early days of the portal mod. I recall AntVenom doing the review of the early versions of that mod. Good old days :)

Holy… the amount of nostalgia from this video. The song at 9:32 hits so differently now. SethBling is the reason I got into Minecraft and became obsessed with redstone and command blocks. Great video showcasing one of the Minecraft greats!

Seth is the one who inspired me to become a redstone engineer in Minecraft. He and FVDisco influenced a ton of my early creations, and kept me going for years with fresh ideas, even though most of what I made was only ever seen by my own eyes. I sincerely miss those days, and though I’m much older, now, I still feel like a kid in highschool, whenever I come across one of Seth’s old videos

You forgot that he got the former world record in Super Mario World. Skipping to the credits by reprogramming the game while ingame and hitting inputs at specific frames. Truly one kind of a genius and the result of what had been if Einstein had a PC at home.

While many people can argue with me and all their opinions are valid; I fully believe that Sethbling is THE most influential minecraft creator to date. Many, many of his videos and contributions have branched to hundreds of thousands of ideas and concepts and overall shaped minecraft and its community. I remember watching his videos as they came out and his streams. To the point where if I listen to his outro music I straight up tear up, it's insane how much of an impact he had on me as a child

I hadn't heard of him before this video simply because I was never active in the English side of minecraft, youtube, but as the video went on I realised how many things I knew about minecraft (such as the block grid) were all of his creations, really interesting to see how a single person made so much

Paused 0:52 (for reference if this is mentioned later ; see TLDR for the reference ) So a buddy of mine also introduced me to Minecraft one night in September of 2010, the alpha / java version. The game was so different and interesting I ended up playing it till it got light outside. It was just so unique and different and there wasn't a wiki to tell you all the recipes so you had to figure it out yourself. I came across notches blog "the word of Notch" and as it turned out it was a free to play weekend, because there was a bug or something on their side. Notch said some pro piracy things saying he didn't care, because if you liked the game you would eventually buy it. Well... I eventually bought it so I can always have the latest and greatest updates. TLDR: There was a free to play weekend in September 2010 -- so I believe I started probably the exact same weekend as Sethbling did! Bonus1: pistons were one of the only mods that Notch was willing to put into the game, otherwise he wanted everything to be original. ( we might have had a minimap instead of paper maps if someone didn't hack his code...) Bonus2: Seth made a working cellphone in minecraft (verizon)... Bonus3: Sethbling made a camera that ray traces a 3d scene, and turns it into a 2d scene, and a better "camera" poleroid, that uses the map pictures to create accruate 3d pictures. (all... using armor stands)
