Donald Mccall rock and roll cane from the house of God, not Rosetta. Let’s get it all right people. There’s no color to this game. When you believe there’s color you are being distracted. Music is good and it’s from God. Evil corrupts music and that’s why we are where we are today. That’s why there is “Rock and Roll.” Fuck Rock and Roll. It’s just music. Good or bad it’s music. But where it comes from we are trying to figure out. Why we like it, trying to figure that out.

Naughty fellas such as Wynonie Harris invented rock and roll, a new kind of jump blues that had the message partying-is-our-religion, mentioned "deacons" and the like and paralleled "rocking in the bosom of Abraham" with rocking the joint, and mixed gospel musical style in (such as backbeat, previously associated mainly with the church) to make the joke even more obvious.

I know this is 9yrs old but I had to comment! 10:35 This lovely woman is speaking to how she saw Sister Rosetta Tharpe looked up when she sang- as if she is speaking to God. THIS made me write. I live in Minnesota- Home of the greatest artist ever- Prince I would get calls to be apart of his after hours parties at Paisley Park. Plus I’ve been front row at his concerts. I have seen him, up close, many times. Each time he really got into his songs, he would throw his head back, mouth open, and connected to God- every time. I would tell people for years, that when he would do this, he was connected to God. I got laughed at or I’d get the “yeah, sure he is” People thought I was crazy. I challenge to to look at any of his videos & you WILL see the moment he saw God. It was as if HE was playing for God- not just us. This vid Moved me so much. I had never heard another person say this about any artist. I stopped in my tracks & HAD to write this. I’ve only know a little bit of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. However in her performance of “Didn’t it rain, children” SHE is standing in the rain, with her steel electric guitar. Know who else did that ??? Prince at the 2007 SuperBowl. Prince wanted it to rain harder. He sang Purple Rain, in the rain ☔️ Because God wanted us to hear the energy! Greatest Super bowl halftime EVER. I wonder how much Prince was influenced by Sister Rosetta Tharpe. I will die on this hill- Prince IS the greatest all around artist EVER. He never left us in Minneapolis, his home. He stayed & played & loved us, And we loved him- didn’t matter what color. When you hear & see Prince or Sister Rosetta Tharpe perform, you are lifted closer to God. Their gifts transcended any man made religion to show us GOD given faith!!❤❤❤ The more I learn about her, the more I have hope & faith. She was amazing!

I can remember the ,64 Manchester station appearance as though it was yesterday...I was 22 back then. It was part of a one off Saturday night BBC TV production which featured the 'Soul Train'. This was a steam train that had been laid on to transport a whole group of gospel and soul artistes just for this one occasion. Here in England we hadn't seen anything like this before and it was a sensation that left it's mark on me even to this day. In a way it was also the swan song for steam locomotives here in the UK because within 18 months all of them had been withdrawn from service.

*vintageloftny* The only reason she's called "Godmother" instead of "Queen" of Rock n Roll is 'cause she was a nun. Had she _not_ been a nun, Im sure she wouldve been known as "Mother" or "Queen" :)
