Billy Crystal is a treasure and, without a doubt, the best Oscars host I ever saw . I am old enough to remember Bob Hope hosting - He was good, but Billy was phenomenal. Others have done creditable work, but no one else holds a candle to Billy, IMNSHO.

We didn't have much of a TV back in 80's and 90's in Iraq, two channels broadcasting government propaganda half of the time, exactly like the US, and the other half broadcasting Egyptian drama or some American films. The academy awards were always a happy moment whenever they decide to steal the show from some foreign satellite channel and send it on terrestrial TV broadcast, until 2003, satellite receivers were illegal in Iraq, and when I think of it now, Saddam did well in that, nothing comes from satellite channels but trouble and BS...

He was the suprise because at the time american audiences hadnt heard of him remember this was 30 years ago. And Morgan Freeman and Tom Cruise were the favourites
