How about a vote? How many of the viewers would actually sit their feet on a 737 max? I for sure will never let my family, nor my self for that matter, fly one. That plane has been doomed from the start. It’s simply a design fault with those engines size and placements and having software to make compensate for it is not my thing. I’ve always liked the “if it’s ain’t Boeing , I ain’t going” but now it’s “if it’s Boeing, I ain’t going” - with the exception of 777 but probably not the X 😐

The 737 MAX completely destroyed the 737s reputation. In 2019 the A320 family became the most successful airliner in history, overtaking the 737 family, all because airlines abandoned Boeings MAX in favour of the NEO, the NEO isnt perfect, personally it seems it has more rough landings, and it has a few issues with the CFM LEAP engines, but no issue the NEO has had has been as costly as MCAS

Especially the A321neo. Talk about a total takeover: replacing fleets of the 737, 757, MD-80, and even widebodies alike. Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard that in 2019, something like 65% of all commercial passenger airplane orders were for the A321neo. Things like this don’t just happen naturally.

I have been following the 737 max story since the beginning and it gets scarier each passing day. The way the corporate overlords are allowed to play with people's lives is not okay. The FAA seems more responsible than Boeing here, I can't understand how the aircraft got approved in first place, even if it was a mistake keeping it in service even after 2 fatal crashes ... just wow. Most of this is happening because the corporate overlords at Boeing are friends with the FAA. The company still shows no signs of remorse and just wants their plane back in the air ASAP.

The problem is that the FAA does not have enough inspectors so they had to rely on Bieing to do the inspections for them and tell the truth, We all know how well that worked out. Boeing flat out lied to the FAA about the inspections and the result was 346 dead.

Congratulations Dan. You have condensed a very complex scenario rather well. I'm still astounded that Boeing knew exactly what the flaws were with MCAS and indeed the probable outcome (crashes) but blinded themselves to the failures they had intentionally engineered into it, distracted by the allure of profit. Boeing was my favorite aircraft manufacturer. Boeing made the greatest passenger aircrafts. But yeah, those were all in the past. The moves Boeing recently made as a company were truly rotten. Even before the MAX incidents, they were trying to eliminate the competition. Then they started cutting corners for profit and sacrifice safety, prematurely blaming the airline and pilots who lost their lives TWICE for a flaw they knew the aircraft had, and still trying to make themselves look innocent, which is unacceptable. Lion Air was Boeing's top customer and their relationship was destroyed overnight when Boeing immediately blamed the airline for the crash. When not even 2 lethal crashes and the loss of over 300 lives made Boeing admit that they cut corners, it's hard to imagine just how toxic the corporate culture is right there. I don't care if the MAX is certified to fly again, I don't trust them anymore and I'm not stepping foot inside the 737 MAX for at least a decade of no MCAS-related incidents. I'm from Indonesia. I'm not related to those who lost their lives, but my thoughts go to the families and relatives of the victims in Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines. Thank you, Dan for standing up against Boeing and for not being afraid to tell the truth. I've been your viewer for at least 6 years and I'm really glad to see this video.

Back in the day, Boeing truly used to be the gold standard in building high quality, reliable, comfortable airplanes. Then, they bought McDonnell-Douglas. Sources say that after the purchase, the vast swathe of MD employees and their train of thinking mixing in with Boeing’s train of thinking would be a fatal flaw, because MD was known to make cheaper and lower quality aircraft. And when you bring that philosophy to a company with a high reputation, that company is going to cut corners.

Another major factor was when Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997. McDonnell Douglas was responsible to the cargo door and hydraulic layout flaws on the DC-10 that brought down four planes in less than 20 years (no one survived two of them). The same kind of executives took over Boeing management and it went downhill from the moment the 757 was discontinued.

Explain to me why there were no accidents, let alone any incidents regarding the max in Europe and North America? I'll tell you why. It's called better pilot training. Have you seen the standards in Indonesia? Ethiopia is ok, good for an African country but still nothing outstanding.

You bet. About 2 years before the Lion Air accident, I flew on the MAX on that same company, Lion Air. I remember looking at the winglets from the seat window and thinking they were strange. But coming back to that memory, thinking that at any point the AoA sensor could fail and pilots not being told about the control augmentation system... I refuse to fly on any MAX now. Don't mind the older 737s like the NGs, but I am not trusting that plane until it's actually proven.

If you buy a cheap ticket, you probably die. As simple as that. A bunch of lousy pilots killed their passengers because they DID NOT FOLLOW Boeing procedures. Boeing cut corners, yes. But in my opinion, based on 20'000 flight hours as a captain, it's the lack of quality of Lion Air's and Ethiopian Air's inexperienced pilots which killed hundreds of people. BTW: Boeing ist probably going to sue "Nonstop Dan" or whoever is responsible for this clip. I published a book about low cost airlines and their third class pilots. Not every low cost carrier has lousy pilots but most of them do. The Boeing 737 MAX is an excellent aircraft. I would fly it anytime!

@@OfficalCheeseAviation As a matter of fact I did my research and I published it in my latest book. Every (!) 737 MAX pilot received a bulletin from Boeing, including the four crash pilots. BTW the 29 year old Ethiopian rookie had less than 500 landings under his belt, mainly during his initial flight training and some on 767 / 777 as Copilot under supervision of his captain.... and from Takeoff to the crash site he never tried to manually fly the 737 . His Copilot was a pedestrian with less than 300 hours total, including tiny Cessna single engine propeller planes. Read the official report, mate.

And then there are KZbin channels (like Simple Flying and the sister channels) who are actually calling the grounding of the planes the biggest problem. Not the accidents, not the new systems and such, not the lack of training, not the lying part etc. They called it an unfortunate grounding. Also they are promoting a new up and coming model of Boeing ('Coming soon'), which is utter bs because there aren't even any designs yet, made a video about the 'amazing inside of a 737 MAX 8 of United' and I can continue about more video's they have made to portray Boeing in a better way. And then the people who watch those channels are saying the channels AREN'T biased. You did a good job Dan, by summing up what has happened in an unbiased way. Thank you for doing that!

the classic thing is? that MCAS was not needed in the first place, and the max could still be in the same type rating as the other 737 models. the EASA test pilot said that he did not feel hardly any difference, whether the MCAS was engaged or not. the 767 and 757 have the same type rating, and one is a whale to fly whilst the other is an over powered hot rod.

No doubt this whole debacle will become a case study in engineering ethics and management courses. We talked about similar situations in my aerospace engineering undergrad program, but none were this recent or blatant. I was (thankfully) not working for Boeing during the 737 Max product development cycle.

Excellent Dan, concise, factual, unreserved. One point, one of the reason the FAA didn't ground the 737 Max (Trump did) was it was stacked with ex Boeing executives after the FAA grounded the 787 for the battery fires, they remembered what the FAA did to the DC10 after its cargo door problems and when it happened to the 787 they decided this was their way of preventing that from happening again. Point two (just a small one) the original 737 had the same P&W JT8D engines as the 727, just thrust uprated. Third point, Boeing is McDonnell aircraft, not Boeing, McDonnell was forced into a merger with Douglas in 1967, became the major shareholder and were responsible for releasing the DC10 for service knowing it had the cargo door fault. Profits before safety. In 1997 they were forced into a merger with Boeing, became the major shareholder and again brought their profits before safety ethos with them. They knew they had a poor reputation, it is why they chose to retain the Boeing name. No manufacturer in the western world has had any model of passenger aeroplane fully grounded, McDonnell (now Boeing) has had 3, DC10, B787, B737Max. Says a lot.....

After SW and AA Pilot's association protested and asked Boeing to focus and train pilots on the safety issues, did Boeing say that pilots of the 737 NG were not told of the MCAS on the MAX because it might "confuse/overcomplicate" pilots. Imagine getting on a flight and your pilot not knowing about a hidden system and how to deal with it if it causes a problem

There’s one important details that aircraft manufacturers had to address; transparency in building entirely new aircraft or redesign old aircraft into new (not hiding the failing development of test flight and the project itself). If one lacks the transparency, it could potentially cause damaged relationships to customers and aviation regulators around the world.

Having watched hunders of Air Crash Investigation episodes (great documentary series btw), I was completely baffled by the slow to act response of the FAA in this matter. Multiple times in the past, grounding fleets proved to be the right decision on new plane crashes, even more when more than one, on similiat incidents crash. And after 2 crashes with a 2y plane, FAA still was doing nothing. And the blame throwing on the pilots, so brutal. And the punishment is laughable at best

Well no. Airbus took enough time to properly engineer their plane and make sure it was safe for flight. Boeing just rushed their plane through the procedures and onto the market so they wouldn't miss out on the money. Ultimate karma is what they got.

@@Christian-cb9jr Airbus 321Neo also have excessive pitch problem that they downplay. They got their act together due to Boeing being first to end up in catastrophe. I think Airbus is the same, if they can get away with it, why not.

@@souske1990 The a320neo is still a completely safe airplane to fly. The 737MAX crashed 2 times because of the exact same problem. And what's even worse, boeing KNEW about the new system and that pilots were never taught about it, but still chose to advertise their plane so it wouls seem that the pilots didn't need any extra training, just so they would make more profit. Boeing not only engineered the 737MAX poorly, they also put the lifes of thousands in risk for something they knew 100% about and could have been fixed easily by just giving pilots a few hours of extra training. They have so much blood on their hands they're drowning in it.

Two years ago I was gonna go on a family trip to Spain and luckily enough my mum looked at what plane we were going on and it was an airbus, if it was a boeng I would have not gone on the trip

Original has pretty poor safety record, but that was plane of totally different era (and was flown with pretty incompetent companies after retirement from usa and Europe). Classics are better, but now you could find it mostly with small companies with limited budget (not great recipe for aviation). NGs comprise majority of 737 fleet, and their safety record is pretty good, if not great. And MAX was studied under microscope for two years, even with pretty poor current state of FAA

Good video even if I find the advertising at the end a bit distasteful this time. I feel very sorry for those affected. And on principle I will never book a flight with a 737 max. People also forget much too quickly. Boeing has already slopped with the 737 NG and with the 787. And despite the tragedy, they really haven't learned anything and are relocating 787 production to the problematic Charleston plant. That underscores the ruthlessness. And safety is still not a top priority either. All those in charge should be ashamed of themselves.

I think it's sad that the behaviour of Boeing and the FAA led to so many deaths and that realistically there's no penalty, no personal consequence for what they did. Personally when flying returns for me after the current situation I won't be using airlines that have bought the 737 MAX for probably at least 5 years (or at the very least routes where they may be using them). I'm sure it's safe now but I don't want to be part of a long term test into safety and reliability.

I was on Lion Air 737 MAX 8 literally the same day as Ethiopian crash. After landed safely in Bali and arrived at the hotel, I turn on the telly and watch the news of Ethiopian crash which is the exact same airplane that took me to Bali.

Yes, people forget quickly how many people died because of Boeing's greed not too long ago, but the people who lost someone didn't forget, and neither did I - as far as I'm concerned Boeing can close its doors for good
