Someone broke a speed running record in the gauntlet on titanfall with grenade boosting and made it fall into octanes origin story because he was inspired to do the same but lost his legs in the process

This is just like Dota 2, where in the lore when one of the ancients (team base) dies they reset the universe, therefore any match played with any heroes on each team is canon because each iteration of the universe the characters chooses different sides and their cosmetics reflects different paths they took in their journeys up until the final battle.

I do actually think that lore of Finals has so much potential, especially the fact that we are as a players lauching the game and we sort of entering this "virtual world".

Honestly my hot take is that the player characters should remain as blank canvas. At least for me, it allowed me to role-play each character I built, and I took pride on making them look unique as if they are a team of characters trying to make a name for themselves in that world. And in the intro segment, it at least looks like the other players are doing something similar. I struggle to role-play in something like Apex when I see the same character multiple times in the arena.

I think that's a valid and spot-on approach! I wouldn't mind if that aspect remains untouched. What I truly want is for them to give us actual characters for the Announcer, Scotty & June, the brands' CEOs, etc. There's clearly an intent to build the lore around them, but I don't want them or future characters to remain as faceless NPCs. I was actually an admin & moderator for the Apex Lore community, and the first year or two were great in terms of world building but it has always struggled in having a defined storyline and completing character arcs - plus the whole "gameplay is not lore" aspect that you mention. I think THE FINALS has everything it needs narrative-wise to satisfy everyone.

One role-playing element I wish they'd include is custom team names (within reason) for Ranked Tournaments that stick with your squad as you accrue Fame. The idea being you create your contestant, then a team, and tournaments are your story of stardom in The Finals. There's only 16 team names total in the game currently. They could even use a random name generator so there's not as many Live Wires or Ultra-Rares. This would affect the VO of the commentators, but they could switch it to referring to team colors that are assigned match to match, Red vs. Blue team, etc.

Actual names are better since referring to them as colors could affect people who are colorblind, then that in itself would need custom lines as well as more if they allow custom colors.

It provides significant cost and time savings for developers, and there can be a balance. The Finals devs also clarified the VOs are not fully AI, it's a combo of recorded voice audio and audio generated via TTS.

I really hope the lore doesn't go with a grimdark matrix or cyberpunk 2077 approach where humanity is doomed and found solstice through the virtual world, this seems like a huge breath of fresh air for a game and lore where it doesn't have to be as optimistic as overwatch but not grimdark like cyberpunk 2077, and more of a sci fi humanity that hit a jackpot of a sport thanks to groundbreaking VR technology.

That 16ws sponser, I think is referencing the 16th Weather Squadron. This is the “mission” taken directly from the air force website. “Rapidly innovate, exploit, and operate cutting-edge software applications to generate environmental and IW insights to support national interests.” This would tie in those 1958 Air Force sunglasses. I almost think there’s a version of the finals being used as military training.

I think it would be very cool if somewhere down the line the arena breaks and everyone has to contest and kill each other in the real world. It would have a lot of shock value if they broke everyone's minds and decided to add gore to the game. The players would be introduced into the "meatspace" where real blood is spilled. Because the game already takes place in the future I don't see why the players can't narratively have all the physical capabilities the players have in the virtual world.

I'm certain they will introduce us to the "Meatspace" one way or another - and I hope even through in-game events. But they won't necessarily go down the morbid route. If you look at THE FINALS Brand Guidelines, that would go against their style and tone of voice, as they want to keep the game-show's approachable and playful premise. Nevertheless, I'd like to see a darker and more mature side of the story down the line.

Now that mw3 has flopped Embark could release this the quality of the beta was fine in my experience and part of why they havnt released the finals yet has to be down to mw3 releasing and Embark thinking that would take away alot of players. After hearing the poor sales of mw3 and poor reviews they need to strike whilst the iron is hot and steel alot of cod fans possibly. Like you though I'd rather wait for The Finals to spend a bit more time in the oven so to speak but I think it would be just as successful if they released now or beginning of next week.
