Cy's solo output is amazing. Aside from 5 full albums, 2 vocal EPs and 2 Instrumental EPs, there's dozens and dozens of songs that he released on the internet. To this day I'm still finding new songs. BUT... just be aware, if you suddenly feel obliged to own is solo catalogue, you'll be shelling out hundreds since all the albums are out of print.

"Today's music pales in comparison to The Fixx. The Fixx have a sound and style that is timeless, hauntingly soulful, poetic, thought provoking and catchy at the same time. The Fixx are more than just an 80's disposable new wave pop sensation, they are an innovative, progressive pop band with a vast body of work that spans decades. Other amazing songs in The Fixx's repertoire include: One Thing Leads To Another, Sunshine In The Shade, Saved By Zero, Are We Ourselves, Stand or Fall, Deeper and Deeper, Less Cities More Moving People, Red Skies to name a few. During the 80s' there were dedicated followers of fashion and then there were The Fixx. Once I heard Red Skies for the first time I was hooked and "fixxated"! ...The Fixx never get old and sound just as fresh in 2016 as they did 30 some odd years ago during their heyday. One of the UK's finest." Most people are too dumbed down these days to get their music. They are better than Pink Floyd, u2, the fix is a truly brilliant band. There new stuff is very good as well, they sound better than ever.

Well said I totally agree with you, you think of the stones, led zepplin and a whole load of other bands that are grossly overrated and come nowhere near to the talent the Fixx have in all of their incredible songs 👍

Thanks for uploading this great interview. The Fixx is one of my favorite bands indeed. I enjoy each and every track on their albums and 12" singles during 1981-88, which is my favorite period of the band. I was happy to know that Cy chose at least 2 tracks that I would also choose from their albums, which is quite difficult for me to do. If I have to choose only one track from their albums (1982-88)... "The Fool" (1982), "Running" (1983), "Woman On A Train" (1984), "Camphor" (1986), "Deeper And Deeper - Live" (1987) and "World Weary" (1988). I would also choose the B-side of their first single (1981), "I've Been Here Before". Cheers!!!!

Unfortunately, one of my favorite songs was never released as a studio recording. Kingdom Christsake is an amazing song but, for some reason, it never appeared on and album or otherwise. That said, I thought the same about Lonely As A Lighthouse and they finally released a studio version of that one, so who knows what the future may bring.

First, I can't get over Cy's impeccable French, could listen to him speak all day. (Mieux que moi). But wait, he's an Englishmen, born/raised in England? This interview is making me miss 'La France'. Then the music! When trading a few records albums recently Reach the Beach is forever a keeper. Saved by Zero other worldly and Morrison-esque in the poetry of it. Looks like many other great songs I missed somehow. Got to get myself to a concert, hopefully they'll come to the SF area.

Regarding Saved By Zero; Putting it in a commercial can't twist that song. It's a great way to get exposure, and The Fixx's brand helped to sell cars which ultimately benefitted the very workers Cy claims to have been forgotten about. The song itself stands on its own merits, and any reasonably intelligent person can tell that it means something other than auto financing. The problem with The Fixx is the world isn't smart enough for them. For me it was the opposite; it took me a long time after The Joshua Tree to like U2, but Stand or Fall had me from day one, and Phantoms was like a good friend of mine through my early teenage years.
@derekbaker32796 жыл бұрын
Well, for starters, as a fan, you already know the context of the song, so of course its meaning cannot be twisted. :) In fact, I shall respectfully disagree with your estimation of the impact the Toyota ad may have had on the significance of the song to the listening public. My basis for this is the fact that, over the last 5 decades, I have witnessed plenty of proof that much (most?) of the general public does not pay enough attention to music and/or analyze music sufficiently to understand the meanings of many of the songs they hear. Furthermore, I have had to learn to accept that people like you & I, who are 'serious' about music, represent members of a segment of society that is relatively small. On top of that, by being fans of The Fixx AND 'serious' about trying to understand their songs on a deep level, you & I are a rather rare breed! So what about the majority who like music, buy or copy music, go to concerts, listen to the radio, watch TV, etc? Well, they often have no idea what songs with less-than-obvious lyrics are about. For example: Why the #%&@ do people in America party with joy to the Guess Who hit, "American Woman", when it's a bluntly & intensely written song that is clearly anti-U.S.A. (and also written by a Canadian band)? Clearly the average person has seen the song 're-purposed' & stuck with a very different interpretation (for some, it was thanks to the visuals chosen for the video of Lenny Kravitz's version, but it has been used in ads too). Another is the R.E.M. hit, "The One I Love", which is a break-up song that is played frequently at weddings...lol. The same applies to Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale", which is not about a fun/wild party but a shocking & sad situation in a relationship. So, when Toyota used the song totally out of context (conveniently, well after it's peak in the charts), not only was it a slap in the face to the band & a sign of Toyota's ignorance/disrespect for the song's meaningful message, but it reached a very wide audience who were listening to it in a contextual vacuum. Consequently, for many ordinary folk, Toyota's 'version' of the song will have coloured or redefined its context, or even introduced the song (and its corporate meaning) for a lot of ordinary folks. The damage will have been done. :(

Same here, I was instantly attracted to this band, with 'Stand or Fall' & Yes, here in the US, not than many years ago, Save by Zero appeared in some type of banking ad. Anyway yes it exposed the song, and certainly Cy got some royalties I hope.

@@derekbaker3279 - I sincerely like your reply. Thank you. You’ve thought about this a lot, and I admire your sensitivity to music as the art that it is. You’re not off the mark at all about how easily misled so many people can be - and not just about music, but about how to interperet the Bible, the Constitution, and nearly everything under the sun. Is it ok for an otherwise meaningful artwork to be misrepresented by an ad agency? Yes - but also no. There’s a dimension to all of this life you’re in the middle of - that dimension is you, and you matter the most to you as you should. I used to suffer fools, but over my lifetime I learned how to detach from chaos, to enjoy meeting a few like minds in the maddening crowd, and to revel in authentic comprehension of good art regardless of its presentation. What helped me to move out of my frustrated phase and into “joyful participation in the sorrows of the world” was the book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell, and the book “The Enchiridion” by the Greek philosopher Epictetus. Check them out - you’re already halfway there. You’ll see what I mean when you arrive, and you’ll have a richer experience of the nuanced comment you replied to. I don’t experience The Fixx as deep - I experience them as pragmatic idealists - a good, balanced combination, because ideals are dangerous - you can get by on a few. I think even The Fixx know this too - they call it a “beautiful friction.” They do argue pretty hard in the studio… I like the way Jack White sees things like this - he wants you - if you don’t know any better, to dig his music and sing along until you start asking yourself one day what the lyrics mean, and then it’s too late - he HAS you :) So yeah, it’s a mess out there. There’s little we can do about it. Our challenge is the call to adventure it all provokes toward, so that we get out there and find out how to bring our neighbors to lean to the light - and without getting a black eye…
