At the local airport, a trombone of ours fell off the cart pulling all the luggage and instruments. It got wedged under the tire and flipped the cart completely upside down crushing nearly all of our instruments including a 25000 dollar alto sax, a 30000 dollar bari sax and about 120 000 dollars worth of instruments (luckily my super rare Bronze Alto survived). They ended up paying for all our instruments, the instrument rentals when we arrived, our hotel stays since we had to re organize our entire trip after the luggage cart incident delayed our flight by a full day, (they basically paid for our entire trip and some more on top of that) and donated another 20 000 dollars to our band.

Back in high school marching band we were at an away game, I was the low brass section leader and we always got the 3rd quarter off to eat and do whatever, and one of the trombone players in my section set her trombone in the stands upright on it's bell instead of across the seat, and suddenly we heard this loud "crash", somehow her trombone fell over and fell off the stands from the top row all the way down to the ground. It looked somewhat like the trombone above. Boy was my band director mad!

+MrSelfridge Oh she was furious!! I don't think the horn was fixable. I play in a concert band right now and a few of the trombone players don't have trombone stands so they lean their horns on the chairs and I always yell at them that they're going to fall but they don't listen. I don't go to any rehearsal without my stand.

Chris Houston Not as bad, but last year some dropped an expensive school mellophone down one row of the bleachers (didn't fall all the way down). The leadpipe was bent in at a 45 degree angle

Ahhh, A fond memory for me. In 1977, A friend laid his horn down after practice, when we were striping our practice field in marching band. we often sat on the tailgate of a pickup holding the line striping machine and bags of lime in the bed. Well somebody did see his T-bone and ran over he bell. My friend was a fine player and picked up and tried to play and did quite well ! Actually he liked the sound and left it that way.playing it in jazz band. Best part of this story? His Dad was Steve Sample the composer many Jazz player will recognize well ! Was a great gag and with a touch of Dizzy Gillespie humor, the perfect Jazz Trombone !

This trombone sounds BETTER then the trombones in my band. Even after 5 months they don't know the slide positions, they point their trombones at the ground, and sound awful. One of them has very puckered lips so he still can't get a sound out, other then the sound of wind. He rests one lip on the top of his mouthpiece rim and the bottom lip rests on the bottom of the mouthpiece rip and then presses the instrument into his face folding his lips back. Then he blows right on through, creating not a sound.

Another good prank happened when Big Band Jazz players played in a televised orchestra, We had an absolutely evil prankster in the trombone section that just loved blowing music off stands 2-3 chairs down, And did it when he had rest. But at this time he was sitting beside another prankster on Bari sax. So when he was terrorizing players on his left, The Bari Sax player got his squeeze bottle and filled his slide via the mouthpeice when in a floor stand. So when the brass section came in, We all got to see some eyes almost pop out! It took a few bars to get the water out with a spit valve But the prankster got pranked ! Considering I was beginning to Double on Contra Clarinet, I didn't have to put up with someone pulling hair out of my leg when I had some Solos as often! Another favorite prank that was common during rehearsals. But no one was safe playing in that orchestra from their music flying off their stand when sitting within 3 chairs of him! He would pretend to be counting rest an no one ever knew who did it! Even the row in front of us was not safe! He drove string players crazy and they never caught him! Playing a solo on a new instrument and having my pants leg pulled up and clumps of hair pulled out of my leg was a challenge during rehearsals. The TV cameras were nothing to worry about after that. Broadcasted in over 100 countries weekly!

A conductor I had way back when... a French Horn Player, told us that when he was ready to retire, he was going to have his French Horn purposefully steam rolled flat, so that he could have it framed and put on a wall. Seriously... I could never do that. I still have all of my instruments and I could NEVER flatten one of them intentionally.

I'm in middle school and we had a day where we went to the high-school to see what playing at a football game would be like. a trombone in the bleachers with us had his trombone on the floor. apparently someone walked past and squished his trombone bell. he freaked out.

We were on our way to a competition and I had put my trombone in the storage beneath the bus, but the door didn't get closed all the way so we were told to pull over by the bus behind us and as we were pulling over, my trombone fell out and got crushed! T.T it was a tragedy, but I have it displayed on a shelf in my bedroom now lol

LOL kinda funny! It's sad for the poor horn tho. Please remind me to never do anything stupid with MY vintage Olds trombone, and especially my trumpet that Chris Botti autographed TWICE! That would definitely make my cry--for real! I'm 47 now, and taking lessons to learn to play trumpet--something I should have done in school LOL! I taught myself to play drums, and am really prolific on that instrument--and I am a paraplegic! (incomplete)and use a wheelchair! I built a special heel operated bass drum pedal, and it works great! I have just enough function to work the Hi Hat in the usual manner, and the bass drum with my heel! Now I took up the trumpet! KIDS---KEEP ON LEARNING YOUR INSTRUMENT, NEVER LOSE INTEREST, AND DO YOUR BEST! YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT! I was SO excited when, after only my fourth leason, I played Herb Alpert's "What Now My Love" and it actually sounded good! I have a LOOONG way to go, but will stick with it---meeting Chris Botti was inspiration enough--and then I get to meet him again, a year later, and he REMEMBERS ME BY NAME! He's terriffic, and I am inspired to play this instrument! I want to meet Herb Alpert next, if I can! I feel like I'm 15 again! NEVER GIVE UP---MUSIC IS THE BEST THING YOU CAN EVER DO! Cheers all! Rick "C-6" Delair, Schaghitcoke, NY.

The bocal for my bassoon (it is school owned. I want to buy a fox 240 or a moosmann m24) was dented beyond belief. To the point in which it didn't fit into the holder anymore. I bent it back into shape, but there is a clear dent where it buckled inwards.
