What he said everything is true. I am doing this karlakattai for last 3 years and still doing. Stamina level of mine is really awesome. I prefer everyone to do this, even girls can do this instead of going to gym to reduce body weight. Karla kattai is an easy way to reduce body fat.

This is very important for a swordsman or a Javelin thrower because you need to carry, throw and swing heavy weapons. Otherwise if your arms are not used to such heavy weights they would dislocate.

Vanakkam Big short films team. Very good cinematography and information about Karlakattai from Grandmaster Dr. Jothi Senthil Kannan. Mixing Traditional Karlakattai with a modern interpretation of club or Mudgar is unnecessary in this video. Please edit or remove it. It is disrespectful to the art and Master. It feels like an interrupting paid advert while watching a documentary / educational video. Main point - you are comparing 40+ years of experience and struggle to keep traditional Karlakattai alive with someone or something that is the very reason why Traditional arts have declined - wrong interpretation and perceived modernisation of the art. There is no comparison at all. I strongly urge you to edit this or remove the video. It is disrespectful to both. Thank you.

Can you prove that lord Rama or any of the kshtriya from Satya yuga were using karlakatai and not mugdars ? If you can then I won’t bother! But why do you think that the part of mugdars are affecting the authenticity of karlakatai? Yes they both are different but not exactly different they have a different name and certain functions are different and karlakatai is more complete based on the 6 different types of kattai, but what is your prove that from Satya yuga they were using the six different type or karlakatai? I can say that the mugdar might have been the one the evolved into the different types of karlakattai due to the different needs people had, and don’t you dare say lord hanuman was using this to train himself to be strong, hanuman ji is vayu Putra and he has immense strength same goes to bheemasen he is also vayu Putra and he drank the nagalok amirt which gave him the strength of 10,000 elephants plus lord Balaram who is the best gadayudth and teacher to bheema and duryodhana is anantasesha, so where in sastra or Vedas have we got references to karlakattai , don’t come and sing your guru’s praise about his story about karakan and the boothangankal fought with parameshwara then only they accepted him as Bhagwan? What drugs did your guru take that he came up with this? Lord shiva is alr god he did not need to fight karalan to prove that he is ? Such blasphemy! Also most of the version of karlakatai were modified and created to suit the user !

I have the at most respect for all traditional arts and practices which includes Mudgar, Jori, Mudgals etc. My issue was mixing traditional practice with modern interpretation of our traditions. This is the reason why our traditional has declined and in some cases lost. If the video showed Traditional Karlakattai alongside my brother's practicing in Varanasi in Akhadas, it would have made sense and really good as it shows both sides of Indian cultures and Traditional practices.

Why does the Taga raho guy comes in between the karlakattai documentry ? Asaan Jothi Kannan is a master in multiple warrior training methods which he inherited from his grandfather and other gurus. His methods and approach to training is entirely different to the Mudgar Swinging coaches. Altough swinging Mudgar and Karlakattai training appear to be similar on surface, the Karlakattai training taught by Asaan Jothi Kannan requires the mastery of meipadam before the club swinging practice. There are also various other aspects how both are different which I cannot described here. I request the video uploader to remove the Tagada raho person in between. It's good video otherwise.

I am happy the documentary shows the perspective of both Guru and Shisya personas. Tagda Raho guys is like most of us who starts learning from the outside in. Asaan Jothi Kannan is obviously comes from a parampara and most of us can only hold him as an ideal and hope to emulate some part of his abilty.

No it's different. It is like comparing Kuchupdi and Bharatanatyam. Yes Both of them are Dance... Both of them are Indian traditional art.. But when it comes to performance they are not the same right ?!... Similarly Karlakattai & Mugdar differ and have benefits in their own way! Learning it from a right person teaches us more!

Modern interpretation of Indian club or Mudgal mixing with western gym workouts and Karlakattai practice are two different things. Karlakattai is not just a set of workout but also worship and lifestyle in itself which starts with salutation in the order of Mata, Pita, Guru and then comes saluting the God. It has some philosophy which is and should be transferred from an authentic Guru. Also different wood has different effect on body. This video is little misleading.

If you enquire about these at Jothi silambam Gurukulam or to their qualified coaches even they will charge more. Their equipment is even more costlier. According to them , this is a Warrior Art and it should be learnt in the authentic form. According to Tagda Raho it is not only for warriors, everyone could be benefited. Both of them are different and expensive 😅
