Living in the jungles, crossing the Mekong River, working as child soldiers and so on just to live in the US. Thanks for giving SEAs (South East Asians for short) a shout out to us. The story of their lives and escape to Malaysia was horrifying. Most Americans don't have a clue what SE Asians lived through. I got mad love. Mad love for Vietnamese food too.
@LG-nh4bs3 жыл бұрын
Unlike other Asians, the SEA never came here for opportunities, but to escape genocide. The majority of them were not modernized especially those that are from nomadic tribes like the Hmong, Kumar, etc. The government poured them into the ghettos. Their families were threatened and robbed. The kids were bullied and beaten, but what the American kids didn't know was that these people have a background over a decade of bloodshed so shedding blood was not new to them and thus the Asian Gangs rised from the 80s. In the late 90s, the feds came out with an article that Asian gangs were the fastest growing gangs in America though their numbers were small. These Asians were the ones who put noise in the streets so that other Asians can walk freely, but up until the Asian Hate, other Asians look down on the SEA.

People really don't know where our Families come from. The stories I've heard from my Mom, Grandma, Uncle's is horrendous. They fled here for a better life, and sadly most Cambodians got dumped in the projects. My Mom is the oldest sibling and was carrying my OG Uncles as babies when they were running from the Khmer Rouge. The village she fled with my family and villagers were tired as they were running on water about knee high. My mom said she couldn't drink the water when everyone stopped to drink water from all the running, because dead bodies and floating clothes. There's a reason why it's called the Killing Fields, and anything on the Media doesn't come close to what our ancestors/elders know. Our people are peaceful and come from nothing but gratitude.
