Othman created so many enemies during his reign it wasnt funny, so many believers dead unjustly under his reign...so many unjust unqualified ppl he put into power, the same ppl who were fighting Holy Prophet(S) for decades he put them right back into power namely Banu Umayah(his family) and co, then ur asking me where was the Ummah?Good question...where were they?? Believe it or not...the only person standing up for Othman was Imam Ali(as)..even his wife Naila was saying to stick with Ali...but where were Talha Zubayr and company though?? The same ppl trying to kill Othman were the same ppl trying to avenge his death at Jamal. Ask yourself.....Othman died in Medina, so WHY does Aisha Talha and Zubayr go to Basra to look for the killers?Doesnt make sense...Our prophet( yours and mine), said what..the truth is with Aisha Zubayr and Talha??...or the truth is with Ali...what side are you guys on if that battle happens tomorrow? Aisha said : kill Na'thal (Othman) for he has commited kufr! روي الحاكم ان عبدالرحمن بن عوف قال: كان لايولد لاحد بالمدينة ولد الا اتي به النبي(ص) فادخل عليه مروان بن الحكم، فقال:" هو الوزغ بن الوزغ، الملعون بن الملعون" الاستيعاب 1390 ـ 1387 (طبعة مصر) ص 359 ـ 360 Rasul Allah (SAW) says : Take away this (Marwan) toad son of a toad (al Hakam), this cursed son of a cursed from Me (SAW) قال الإمام أحمد (4/5) ثنا عبد الرزاق أنا ابن عيينة عن إسماعيل بن ابي خالد عن الشعبي قال :سمعت عبد الله بن الزبير وهو مستند إلى الكعبة وهو يقول : ورب هذه الكعبة لقد لعن رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم الحكم وماولد من صلبه Abdullah bin zubeir swears at the Kaaba : By the Lord of this Kaaba, indeed Rasul Allah did curse Al Hakm and what he carries in his loin. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ وذُكر أن هذه الآية نـزلت في الوليد بن عقبة بن أبي مُعَيط. التفسير Tafsir (explication) الطبري - Al-Tabari This ayat was revealed concerning Walid bin Uqbah (fasiq), half brother of Othman Othman brought back Marwan the cursed one, whom Rasul Allah (SAW) sent on exile and married his daughter to him ! He named Muawiya amir of Shaam and Walid Uqbah amir of Kufa. Walid was alcoholic, history recalls that once he lead salaat ul fajr with four rak'aats, being drunk. Othman added two rak'aats at Mina. He also added a second azan to salaat al Jum'a. He ordered the killing of Abdullah ibn Mas'ood and sent Abu Zar on exile in the desert of Rabazah without food and water. He reduced the stipend of Aisha which of course angered her and started to use baitul maal for his own sake. People got fed up with him and asked him to repent. One day he climbed the minbar and ask for tawba. There's a lot of speculation about his killing, anyway a sahabi killed him.

Now answering your question yes he did burn the copy of the qurrran which were not in authentic form and it was a good job done by him to protect the Muslims from reading the wrong version of the qurrran if he didn't do that today you wouldn't even be agreed upon the holy qurrran and Muslims will then have different versions of qurrran today.
