The fallout universe diverged from ours. They invented miniature nuclear fusion reactors, but never invented the micro chip. So everything is big and boxy, as they couldn't make things smaller.

In the Fallout Universe Transistors have not been adopted for widespread use and most technology is still relaying on Diodes or 'Glass Tubes' as they are sometimes known, which was actually a good thing since the EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) which happens after a nuclear detonation doesn't affect Diodes as much as Transistors that's why the technology in Fallout is so bulky since Diodes are harder to minitiurize and why they still work two centuries later.

I really enjoyed this series, it's a long one, but it develops a neat little meta-narrative going on inside it later on. One where you're both learning about pretty much every facet of Fallout's world while an original story is taking place at the same time. It's a really cool idea rather than just being informative you're experiencing two stories at once.

What's great about this series is how it's not just a dry recitation of lore, but rather presents everything you need to know in an in-universe fashion, which makes it fun and entertaining as well as informative. Well this is a nice surprised. Have a bit of nostalgia for the Fallout Storyteller videos. Couldn't play the first two Fallout games back when I got into the series, because of unavailability at the time (No PC to play it on.), so Storyteller is how I ended up learning about the events from those games. Oh probably been suggested before but a great and funny Fallout video to react to is "UNSTOPPABLE MORON MAKES NUCLEAR WASTELAND NOTICEABLY WORSE | Fallout: New Vegas" by Russian Badger. It's a little long but it's amazing.

About the heels... U can't wear them cause to health issues and some days i just would trade everything to dance in them like i used to do before the injury (basically i can wear them but my ankles get strained far beyond healthy). So es comfort after the apocalypse for sure but i totally get why people would look like this in a society where everything is focused on survival. Sometimes you need a break and if your break is wearing heels to work why not. I loved to see your reactions and yes shoddycasts story teller series is unique which makes it a bummer that it ended so early in. Shoddycast still exist run by one of it earliest members but understandable it changed a lot (not in a bad way just in a different way). So please enjoy this series as long as it is possible. :) Greetings from Germany

The storyteller? Yes! My favorite fallout series! One thing I want to correct about this video. In the war Power Armor was pretty durable and offered pretty good protection, but that was not the greatest or most important part. Power Armor is its name says, Powered. Meaning it can carry several hundred pounds of gear while leaving the wearer feeling like he’s not wearing anything. Imagine having the ability to carry a mini gun with thousands of rounds but handle it like a rifle. Imagine carrying a portable nuclear catapault on your shoulder that can kill anyone with several hundred feet instantly. Carry a missile launcher with dozens of rounds. One soldier could carry more firepower than an entire squad and then some. Urine recycling so you can weeks without fresh water. Heavily resistant to radiation. Air conditioning and heating. Built in air filtration and scrubbers into the helmet. you got a soldier who can go weeks without resupply and wipe out entire platoons with ease. The armor plating is just a little icing sprinkled on top

The fallout universe is in some ways haven't changed since the 50s but also has advanced much further than the modern day tech, instead of making broad sweeping changes, they made concentrated advances with nuclear power and advance weaponry, dabbling later in ways to survive in a nuclear winter

The reason why the tech is so odd in Fallout is something that this video missed. Basically, the main timeline shift occurred not after WWII but before it. In our world, we developed transistors, which allow our technology to become smaller and smaller, more digitally focused. In the Fallout world, transistors were never invented, so instead everything has vacuum tubes, which gives it this bulky, old-school, retro look. Hence why all the robots, even if they are advanced, look so dorky and weird. As a result, more and more energy needs to be pumped into everything but cannot be amplified or rerouted by transistors...so they resort to using nuclear fission to supply energy instead. That's why is everything is nuclear and atomic related.

More less the reason why technology developed differently is because they didn't develop the transistor until much, much, later then we did. Without the transistor things llke LCD screens and more or less a modern electronics are flat impossible, or would be so large as to not be feasible.
@bthsr7113 Жыл бұрын
Basically, imagine if the spirit of the 50's never stopped until the bombs fell in late 2077. Over a century of red scare, stagnant electronics, gas guzzlers, and nationalist tendencies festering. The efficiency gains we've gotten since the 50's, they didn't get. The thawing of the cold war, they didn't get. The transistor, the backbone of modern computing, they got late. The modern food quality and safety laws.... the Fallout World was already radically different before the end was on the horizon, and the nuclear bombs going off like fire crackers on the 4th of July only made it stranger still.
