Mr. Divesh Mulmi (Cobweb) sharing the story of musical journey of the band COBWEB in The Storytellers Music Series 2
Divesh Mulmi takes us on a time travel to the early days of the music industry in Nepal, the times when he played rock music because he liked it, without knowing anything about the genre. Talking about the early days of the band Cobweb and their struggles of survival in the industry, Mulmi’s story will make you laugh, wonder and question.
Mulmi is the lead vocalist of the popular Nepali band Cobweb. Their hit numbers include Mercedes Benz, Maryo ni Maryo ni etc.
The band was established by Nilesh Joshi, Dibesh Mulmi, Urdip Joshi, Mahesh Nakarmi, and Pawan Shakya in 1998 and produced hit rock albums like “Cobweb”, “Rolling Strings”, “Mercedes Benz”, “Rock n’ Roll” and “Swing.” Amongst them, it was “Mercedes Benz” that brought up Cobweb as a promising rock band in Nepal.

Once i was there in concert at jawalakhel, the last band to play were Cobwebs. I was literally drunk. Icheering there in crowd with other CB fans. I didnt know what kick me i was like i wanna meet them anyhow. They were preparing for the next song.rushed to the initial row there was the rope bar with some security behind. I tried to convince the security telling them im one of the band member. They didnt allow me first but later they had to cause i was yelling at them saying i'm one of the crew. I went straight to the backstage. They haven't yet started the next song. Divesh dai he was there with a bottle of beer . I gave him a hug. He offered me bottle of a beer. He even didnt know who i was. We shared couple of minutes together. Then he was on stage for Mercedes benz. I was at the backstage enjoying their music with chilled beer. After the concert he came to me & said did you enjoy ? I was like omg wtf . That was the unexpected call. I was totally numb felt like paralyzed because of excess alcohol. They were packing their stuffs. I was lying unconscious. The blurry face of divesh dai came close to me , he asked me where's your home i can drop you there if you like or else you can join me to thamel. I said i wanna go home please drop me at baneshwor. I dont know yet how he managed to get me into his backseat of his car and dropped me off at baneshwor. He has 0% attitude , down to earth guy with a huge heart inside. Respect.

Omg m so proud of this guy. The way he have said his story and situation of Nepali musicians really touched me. And I guess he aint wrong ,Nepali musicians literally struggle in their own country to get fame and royalty. Nepal have so good musicians and bands but due to lack of support and concern they have disbanded and choose another career. We nepali need to learn how to respect the artist...coz ...i have been to some concerts in Nepal and Hong Kong. In Nepal I have seen throwing stones and talking vulgar words to our own artists.
