Beautiful Paul! As many a salmon angler know, when alone in a pool and one is left to their own device, it is always good to have 3 hands! Tail wrapping is always worrisome as the fish is invariably brought in backwards and is being deprived of O2. You did not panic and were able to extricate your catch with aplomb! Well done!!! Absolutely Mike. It happens now and again when the fish start rolling about! It was better to try and free it quickly and risk losing that the fish not recovering. Glad you enjoyed it and I hope the season is being kind to you guys. I'll drop by your channel later and check out for new videos!

The tail end of Straan on the north bank used to fish well in high water especially in the Spring.

I've spoken to a couple of anglers and they agree with you. I think it is probably because I've done well on the opposite bank that I just naturally just go over there. It's such a long pool that a couple of runs done the far bank and you start running out of time hey. Hope you're having a decent season1 Tight lines and thanks for watching and commenting!

Heading there in end of march, 1st time...any fly tips ?

Unless the water is up I rarely fish anything other than lightly dressed doubles on a 10 or 12. Cascades, Willie Gunn, all the usual suspects but Lawrence the Ghillie will keep you right. End of March could be dynamite!

Are they all wild salmon on that river or is there a hatchery?

There was a small hatchery years agio but it is shutdown now. There is a big call to open hatcheries on the river because the stocks are so low but the governing body don't want to do it. It's a big debate in Scotland at the moment. Anglers see the decline but nothing is being done about it unfortunately.
