WELL I’m the book dr Jekyll WANTED to turn into Mr Hyde he could do whatever he wanted without being recognized, sure it can be a symbol to drug abuse, but dr Jekyll willingly wanted to change his body, and never really changed his mind he just wanted to do whatever his small mind wanted like killing. I don’t know why this channel keeps misinforming people of the true meaning behind this, in fact it can directly be pointed to drug abuse due to dr Jekyll planning and putting hard work into making it happen

Yeah the drug abuse metaphor won't hold up perfectly everywhere (Like when Jekyll wakes up as Hyde and the whole physical transformation) but in most places it's shockingly accurate. I'm not an expert on drug abuse so correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure there's tons of people who WANT to, say, get drunk, to experience that feeling of liberation and freedom, much like how Jekyll describes his experiences as Hyde. The channel isn't being misinforming, theres tons of other summaries, personal interpretations, and I'm sure even some published essays about the addiction metaphor, because you can't deny that Jekyll was *addicted* to being Hyde. If I understand the last point right: Yes he put a lot of work into making the addictive draught, which I honestly don't understand either. We don't know exactly why he was so fixated on separating the 2 aspects of himself, my thoughts is that he was already mentally messed up even before Strange Case takes place. I may totally be misunderstanding the point of this but feel free to respond I guess 👍
