It reminds me more of an American woman who went missing in New York for something like 3 weeks, but was eventually found alive, floating in the river. She didn't know what had happened to her, with her last memory being leaving the house the day she went missing. There was footage of her going into stores in the city during this time, but she didn't remember any of it. In the end, the doctors diagnosed her as having experienced a dissociative fugue, meaning for 3 weeks she didn't know who she was, while her body just walked around on autopilot. She ended up having another episode several years later and possibly one last one when she disappeared for good during a hurricane. It still wouldn't explain how Nining survived getting pulled out to sea, or where she was for 18 months. I think that's longer than most fugues last. But the mention of her acting strange before her disappearance was what reminded me of the American woman, because she did something similar before her episodes.

Oh, I remember that case. She disappeared and was found in water. Later she disappeared again, and was again found in water. Then she moved to Hawaii, and disappeared during a hurricane. She was a teacher, and all three times it happened shortly before the beginning of the school year.

Someone saying her behaviour was odd before her disappearance is fairly significant, especially considering her age. Delirium, a psychiatric condition, early-onset dementia or even the after effects of an undetected mini-stroke could all explain her behaviour after surviving the incident in the ocean. My mother worked in an aged care home for quite a few years and there were so many families of residents that were utterly oblivious to the cognitive decline of their elderly relative, sometimes getting indigent and combative when told their relative needed to go into a secure/lockdown care unit for their own safety, refuting any assertions by doctors there was cognitive decline that necessitated it. So in this case, her family may not have fully realised her cognitive decline would lead to such impairment of function when she didn’t have relatives around to keep her on-script. People with dementia can be very suggestible and cooperative in a social setting even if they lack contextual understanding of their environment, themselves or the people they’re with, thusly giving the illusion they’re more switched on than they are. A lot their cognitive function is also reliant on familiar routines, settings and proximity to the same people, seperate them from that cognitive “anchor” and they spiral into complete confusion and their symptoms progress significantly, sometimes irreversibly, especially when separated from long periods of time. All the above is true of delirium in older individuals, traumatic events can induce it; a lot of doctors don’t like doing surgeries on the elder because it can induce delirium and many elderly patients who had perfect cognitive capabilities pre-surgery/pre-delirium will never recover and stay mentally impaired for the rest of their life. Ultimately, without access to her medical records it’s always impossible to rule out whether or not there’s evidence for a medical explanation (and whether or not doctors have adequately tested for all possibilities, like signs of brain damage from oxygen deprivation as almost drowning could also have played a role in her cognitive decline). I say that because while I don’t suspect the family of intentionally lying they aren’t an unbiased/reliable source of information. It’s always difficult to trust a family when they have a preexisting bias towards supernatural phenomenas and are either completely satisfied with supernatural explanations (and thusly feel no need to continue looking for medical explanations) or are swept up in a confirmation bias for a fantastical supernatural thing they believe in they start rejecting any non-fantastical explanation, to the point of omitting the existence of medical evidence that provided a normal explanation.

She wouldn't have needed to hit her head while out at sea to have amnesia. Drowning and losing oxygen in the brain can cause brain damage and result in memory loss or amnesia. She could've passed out underwater but then somehow survived being brought back to shore and with the lack of oxygen damaging her brain developed amnesia. Though explaining the time from when she was lost to when patient x12 was found is quite difficult to explain. Plus how she drifted out to sea and then back to the shore and surviving without any help is quite implausible but not impossible. Either way it's quite a fascinating mystery. I'd subscribed not too long ago and binged watched all your videos because they are so well done and researched l, you've become my favorite missing 411 channel! Keep up the hard work bro! I almost drowned and died when I was about nine years old, I even saw my life flash before my eyes, just like people say it does but luckily a big man ran and jumped onto these huge oyster covered rocks and threw a rope and pulled me in. He cut his stomach all the way across, and it was pouring blood. If it wasn’t for that man, I wouldn’t be alive. Once I had accepted that I was gonna die, I felt extremely peaceful and calm, it made me unafraid to die because I know what it feels like to face it. I never told my mom until I was 18 because I was afraid that I’d never allowed to leave the house again but by that time 10 years after it happened, she didn’t believe me for some reason even though I didn’t lie to my family or make up stories, maybe she didn’t want to believe me.

So, she was swept out, waves knocked her around and she got amnesia, lived homeless, was arrested on that beach, then ran away from the carehome.. then she was found on the beach again, like the beach was the only thing she remembered.. the dream part might be something the family added. Propably were out there searching for her or evidence of her, found her and made up the part of the dream. I sort of wonder when they started calling the Javanese, Indonesians? All the folks I know from that neck of the world, call themselves Javanese, or Sumatrans if they're from the next island over. On average, one cargo ship a month goes missing in the straight just off those islands. Costs around 25 - 50K USD for armed security, when transiting the straights. Cheap when you consider the cost of a container ship, and crew.😄

the beach name is Pelabuhan Ratu, in english: Queen's Harbor. The name related to local legend of Nyai Roro Kidul, Nyai means Madame, Kidul means South, so, its a legend about a mythical being that ruled the southern sea of Java Island. The legend say, she is the queen of a mythical kingdom under the sea, and many people, including politicans, must negotiate with her for whatever they wanted to do. A room in an old hotel in that location (Samudra Beach Hotel), is dedicated to the queen and the legend say, you can meet her in that room. Java southern beach is not just an edge of an island, but also the edge of continent, so its deep and have many features that regular ocean dont. The entire case has been a hoax by Nining, as a scheme to avoid debt collector. While she fake her death, or 'missing', she'd been hiding and working in Jakarta.

I'd have to know EXACTLY what other witnesses saw the day she disappeared at the beach. Did witnesses actually see someone in the water or did they just take the family's word for it? Also the fact that she started having mental issues before the disappearance speaks volumes. I believe the family orchestrated this for some reason. Either to help explain nining's absence in life or to collect some sort of insurance or disability or other. Then after 18 months feeling guilty or some other reason decided to end the charade and just so happen to "find" her at the same beach. Give me 2 to 3 days at location and access to the people involved and I'll have a definitive answer.

I am a trauma therapist here in the United States. It is my opinion that the most likely explanation for what happened to Nining is that she experienced a dissociative fugue state due to the terror and trauma of the experience of getting pulled out to sea. A fugue state is a post trauma response resulting in a period of amnesia including forgetting one's identity, what has recently happened to them and how they arrived in the place where they may be found wandering in confusion. A fugue state can last days or even months. Dissociation is thus a defense mechanism to trauma. This dear woman needs treatment for her condition, though I doubt that there are mental health professionals that are trauma informed where she lives. It is important that her family and friends don't try to yank away her defense mechanism, but rather that they allow her to go slowly in re-establishing a sense of who she is. By the way, I tremendously enjoy your channel. I appreciate the calm and rational way you present these fascinating stories. One of the first things I do when I come online is I look to see if you have put up any new videos. Thank you so much for your careful work in this fascinating topic.

An interesting and enlightening channel, for anyone into this paranormal topic. But I would like to say, whilst you appear to be using or expanding on the work of David Paulides and mentioning the "Missing 411" subject, I think it would be better to at least name drop him as the author of those books, and the original investigator of the stories you make videos on. *When you mention "Missing 411" say "..by David Paulides.* Direct your viewers to his KZbin channel as well (For the few who might not know it yet). Common courtesy.
