Sir Vidia was a philosopher of writing, not in the literary sense of the word, but in the way he could see things vividly, see through them the underlying truth that does not occur to people at large. The way he writes, his prose, his vivid descriptions of people and their mannerisms, the intricate details of the bounties of nature, the observations make for you a textual documentary to know about the world for yourself, even though you are seeing things through his eyes. When I read his work, I feel he is a photo-camera equivalent in his pen. His mind sees and records everything in tiny details, and so accurately. This god of writing leaves things as they are, in the end leaving it up to you to judge. Unless you are not biased or heavily conditioned, you must know what you should know. This documentary is great. The only thing one missed it should have incorporated the mind of the great author as well, the making of it, as explained by the author himself in his book, 'Literary occasions'.

Rubbish. Naipaul only saw what was in front of him. As if what was in front of him was not the result of distinct historical experiences. Great writer no doubt. But that is it. He writes nice books, not very analytical books 😂

@@juanestadian8471 writing about what is in front of one in non- fiction is a true art and needs a man of caliber to do it. Doing analysis of it is the business of critics, who differ from each other. In Naipaul’s writings, mere real time observations matter, devoid of opinions and bias. The lacking is what is its true jewels

It's a lovely video. I always felt he had disdain for India but actually he felt intense love as he put himself in the shoes of the multitude and felt compassion for them. As a sensitive writer he was appalled at the idea but kept getting drawn to India as is mentioned in his speech after receiving the Nobel. The other person one has lot of regard is Pat and her loyalty.

Thank you for this insightful video. This was of great help. You've heaped all the phases of Naipaul's life, from the confined childhood to the Nobel Laureate. The voice traversing the whole video managed to keep our attention till the last minute. I hope more people get to watch this and of course, that would certainly be followed by a token of appreciation. 👏👏

I too had the same feeling about his 2nd wife, I don't want to be judgemental buy seems that she was either overprotective of Sir Naipaul or she overdid her display of fondness for the old Naipaul.
