Subscribe and stay tuned for similar style content about strange games, and completely different style content about all sorts of games! I don't have a flat-out plan yet for this channel but I do have a few ideas for videos which may come soon, particularly about certain elements across certain types of games and also just alot of F-around fun stuff and maybe even some normal style episodic series cut from long streams. Like this comment or reply if you'd be interested in this kinda stuff.

So happy to see a longer video that exclusively focuses on this game. I had this at a tender age and I'm so glad it's getting the modern day recognition that it deserves because WOW it was just...so. Weird. Like the other sims console games were weird, but this one and PSP were next level strange and I'm crushed that we don't get oddball games like this anymore. This was my Silent Hill at age 7. I absolutely adore the damn near hypnotic entrancing atmosphere of this game. Going back and forth to do tasks in the same desolate location while weirder and weirder things happen, the fucking. STUPID alien music that would scare the shit out of me (so happy it wasn't just me pissing myself over that). This game using real time for.....Reasons????? I guess that was new tech at the time this released and they wanted to use it?? I've been so desperate to find SOMETHING that made me feel the way this game did for years. Everything that comes close is a little too tongue-in-cheek / self aware or alternatively is trying way too hard to be scary. I like the balance here where things just kind of Happen and the game is indifferent towards them. Gives you the space to make your own judgement on whatever the hell it throws at you instead of trying to coerce you into feeling a certain way
@Starrbean
@Starrbean Жыл бұрын
AY IT DOES GIVE SILENT HILL VIBE, legit Silent Strangetown. I agree though, I could not think of any other game that feels like this at all. The closest thing I could think of is that weird point and click game Harvester from 1992. But that is waaaay goofy too

I'm always immediately drawn to any The Sims 2 for DS videos, because that game gave me literal nightmares as a child, yet it's oh so dear to my heart. You can just really tell, that the developers went all bonkers with this title and tried to make it as strange and eerie as possible. I'm only a few minutes in and I can already tell, that I'm going to like your content. The editing and your delivery and quick jokes are so good. I couldn't belive it, when I saw, that your channel is still quite the unknown gem. I know that I'll subscribe and check out the other videos! I'm really excited to see, where this channel goes. About the store clerk being green, he's half alien and appears in other sims games, you can even sell him alien spaceship parts, and if I remember correctly, someone from the hotel hints that he's trying to get home or something. Loveddd this game as a kid, remember feeling uncomfortable as well, but totally mesmerized. Replayed it as an adult recently and it really is one of my favorite games, it's so unique. The Sims 2 DS is super weird man. I grew up with it and it still has this weird sense of comforting familiarity but somehow it's still unsettling to me even now, despite knowing basically all it's ins and outs. I actually spent a considerable amount of time figuring out how this game works, and I actually even made most of the action reply codes for the game that are on the Sims 2 DS Wiki there. There's some codes to auto-skip room building waits and progress time sensitive events during the story in there btw, would've been easier than messing with the windows clock lol

I still own The Urbz- Sims in the City for Nintendo DS. It had many elements like these games in the video, like Moogoo Monkey. The game's supposed to be played so the monkey who has the most "health" (the card under them) wins. At the end of every round, monkey whose card number under them is the lowest, will be eliminated and players who have bets on that monkey, will lose the bets as well. Whoever has the most bets on that winning monkey at the end of the game will win. I played this game waaay too much as a kid to understand the rules :D

I used to get nightmares from changing the ds time and the aliens would come

I should dig this up and pop it in the 3DS. It was such an ambitious, expansive game for the hardware, definitely one of the most memorable the OG DS got. A lot of little activities to do, and it scratched that "numbers go up" itch gaining incremental upgrades and maximising profit like in animal crossing. The comments about it being creepy made me laugh, as a kid you bought into the superstition of the game, especially when it would send things to pursue you. Aside from the more in your face things it had a less obvious uncanny vibe in unexpected places.

This game is the reason why I used my adult money to thrift Sims 2 Bon Voyage and Open For Business from Ebay just to recreate locations from the DS game onto the PC version of Strangetown.

Dude I loved this game back in the day. Such a unique take on a Sims title. Made me want to control my Sims directly in other games too. The whole feel of the town is otherworldly (for good reason), and it was strangely cozy.

this game always sat in my memory like a fever dream. then i find this video while sick with a fever and somehow i still struggle to believe its real. i better come back when i have my head on straight to verify lest i go another decade with this monster haunting the back of my mind.

I also had this game when I was a kid but I had it on R4 so at some point the game just bugged and it didn't let me go any further...so I couldn't finish it. Anyways, as time went by, I forgot its name. I remembered that it was a Sims game and also how weird it was, so whenever I tried to find out which version it was, I always ignored "The sims 2" as I thought that was the "normal Sims", like the one you build houses and shit...so yeah, thank you for bring it back to me.

Ay same! I never got past the mob boss guy as a kid. My only experiences beyond that were when I’d rent the game and check other peoples saves n one time I was in the basement cutting up alien corpses and I turned the game off haha😅

@@Starrbean that’s the exact same spot I got stuck at. I couldn’t figure out what to do with the mob boss so I just played in the casino and ran around as the rat superhero. I was more into using my imagination in video games if that makes sense haha

Totally makes sense, I used to fall for the rumours that you could marry characters and spend all my time rizzing up people and making up drama like I was playing with dolls. Probably the most normal Sims experience available in this game hahaha

I had this game as a kid however I'm Belgian and didn't speak a word of English back than. And honestly this game weirdness and strange atmosphere became too much for me and I became too scared to play it after the mob boss goon beat me up for stealing his money. (I know I'm a pussy.) All these years later someone finally explains this game to me and I'm even more mystified than when I was playing this game.

The game I never played?? I played this game far… FAR too much. Knocking over the cow to make milk shakes… filling my art gallery with the same pictures of squares in 20 different colour varieties. Never actually understanding how to play the pirate card game but still playing it for hours. Cleaning out that GODDAMN vacuum cleaner. The terrifying and absurd basement with a bat cave?! Mannnnnn, I need to play this again… an absolute classic… still don’t think I ever finished it. I just remember getting to the pent house and there being the men in suits or something like that??
