I loved this game when I was a kid, it's the reason I like mushrooms nowadays, I grew up with a Wii so I personally never cared about shaking the remote for combat 'cause I just got used to it, I always loved the " gross " enviroments and aesthetic the game had, in regards of the story... I never really cared about it ? It's just a platformer, not a visual novel, tho I can see how it's really bland I had 24+ hours dedicated to this game, took me years to 100% the game, but it was worth in the end Good enough game, nostalgia can make you hold something in higher regards than it deserves Edit: forgot to mention, the game's music had the involvement of Les Claypool, so that's neat

Ah, this game. I first saw an ad for this game in a National Geographic magazine, and told my parents about it and that I wanted it for Christmas. But being an autistic 10 year old, I couldn't remember the full name of the game and just told my Parents that it was "Spore Something," This led to me getting Spore Creatures for the DS that Christmas. I didn't end up playing this game until a few years ago and I liked most of it, but the Combat sucked. I feel like this has immense potential for a remake. Here's how I'd improve it. Point 1: rework the combat to be completely button based, with combos you can unlock with the Meteorite shards you collect throughout the game. Maybe add some kind of enhanced State for Pax, leaning into the mystical themes of the Mushroom Tribes, Something like an Auto-dodge that requires a side quest helping a specific tribe to be completed. Point 2: Flesh out the world more, make the different tribes matter and have unique benefits to interacting with them! Point 3: Rework the Story to actually feature conflicts between the tribes, as the subtitle "the Spore Wars" would suggest. Have some unlockable abilities based on how you interact with the tribes, sort of like how Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC gives you a different perk based on how you complete the main questline/who you side with. Help one tribe make peace with another and they give you a passive regeneration ability (Based on Real World Nutrient Cycling that Fungi do), Help one Tribe take out a nest of hostile creatures (or an Agressive Tribe) and they give you an increase to your attack power. You could even add new tribes that teach you new Sporekinesis powers. Speaking of Which, Point 4: Rework Sporekinesis into a full Magic system. Hypnotic Spores to get enemies to fight for you, Mold casting to rot organic enemies, Fungal Manipulation to heal friendly beings, Mind Control Spores to Pacify and Tame mutant animals. The Possibilities are nigh endless with Mushroom based Magic. Point 5: Make the game open world or Semi-Open world. As much as I'm a fan of the Collect-a-thon style of game, The theme and story of this game lends itself more to the open world genre. Like, Imagine an open world with this dark aesthetic. Point 6: More ways to explore. The Jumping and Gliding are fine to begin with, but imagine that after you progress some, you fine a rare artifact that gives Pax a new way to explore the world; Instead of the Sticky Hand being a nod to Zelda's Hookshot, Pax would get something like a Grappling hook, letting him swing around or use it to climb sheer cliffs. This could even have combat uses, like bringing distant enemies to you, or quickly getting out of the way of a big attack! Don't like it being a Sticky Hand? Fine, Magic lets him stretch out his arms like vines that let him grab distant targets. Now Pax is Wildvine from Ben 10. Through interactions with Toxic Spores, Pax could gain those poisonous abilities for himself, throwing bombs to poisos large groups of enemies. Defeat an out of the way boss and gain the ability to camouflage in the environment and sneak past enemies!
