Interviewer : 'Can you see the band continuing?' Forty years on and still producing amazing songs. Ok, new band members (RIP Dave), but still filling venues..... and not just with the 'old guard' like me, lots of youngsters singing the old, and new stuff.

Looking back at this now boath band and media never really had answers for who or maybe what the stranglers were as a band.....never staying in one place to long musically to be branded as this act or that act.....I think the media did ask questions that even the band themselves were at odds to answer because of nothing more than they didn't really know themselves.....something better change indeed....and they always have....true Mavericks........and that's why we love em!...

I'm from a small place in Columbus Ohio, near OSU campus, grew up there in the 60-70's so there were lots of buy/sell record stores on campus, discovered The Stranglers back in mid 70's. it was a neighborhood mainstay. Our neighborhood was mostly all guys and we all played guitar or musical instruments, I'd say 90% of the guys growing up were all musicians, and the drummer had a dad who was cool and let us practice in the basement and we would have parties on the weekend with us jamming of course. SO this was kind of exclusive, people knew of us obviously from school so many would try to 'hang' with us or try to come here, but we said we decided who would be here and hang out with us. AND one of the requirements was ya gotta be listening to The Strangs as we would say.... so ya had to be into Allan Holdsworth, Strangs, Rolling Stones, Genesis, McLauglin, Coryell Mingus, Coltraine, Miles Davis... we were very eclectic with our music for kids if ya ask me.

Normally I can't stand interviews from many of my favorite bands from this era because of their immaturity - but The Stranglers (as well as The Clash) are a cut above in their intelligent responses and insight. I am a woman and I absolutely love this band! That interviewer was just a c*nt if you ask me. I hope he is still alive and reads these comments lol. 💗

What a peculiar band. The songs were written mainly by Hugh & JJ, the truly gifted musician were Dave & JJ and in fact Jet is average drummer and yet the real band front man is Jet. Amazing.

As a feminist and big Stranglers fan (which some may consider an oxymoron) I think the press were far too gratuitous with pulling up the sexism allegations constantly. Jet's response here was very good and regardless of standpoint respectable. Don't see the problem...
@theobjectivethinker64 Жыл бұрын
I agree I have spoke to the band members on many occasion over the years, I can say that they were very much for womens rights, the stance they took on Rattus/Heroes was to reflect society rather than to agree with it, however there are those who think they were condoning, same issue with I feel like a Wog clearly anti racist but some are too easily triggered. It clear to anyone that women have had a bad rap for years - all that untapped talent for so long. Punk was good for women we had some very good role models.
